Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and the panel study Romans 5:20–21, addressing the sin nature and the purpose of the Law. Without the Cross, sin reigns. The Law exposes our fallen condition, often provoking resistance in the human heart. But when we respond with repentance and faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit empowers us to walk in victory as grace reigns over sin.
Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and the panel examine Romans 5:19–20, showing how Christ’s finished work restores what sin unraveled. Through His obedience, life is made available to all, and as believers, our obedience becomes a testimony to the world around us. Though we are washed, sanctified, and justified at salvation, the Holy Spirit continues transforming us into the image of Christ. In Him, we are truly new creations.
Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and the panel study Romans 5:16–17, emphasizing the believer’s object of faith—Christ and Him crucified. Just as we received Christ, so must we continue to walk in Him, remaining obedient to the faith. When our trust is anchored solely in His finished work, God’s grace reigns in our lives, and the Holy Spirit brings life to the undeserving sinner.
Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and the panel examine Romans 5:15, revealing how God’s free gift of grace far surpasses Adam’s sin. Everything lost in the Fall has been restored—and multiplied—through Jesus Christ. God’s grace abounds much more than sin, freeing us from its dominion and empowering us through His inexhaustible power.
If there is no law, then you can’t be charged. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:13 discussing the Law of Moses. The indictment of the law stands forever as a record in heaven. Brother Borg reminds us, that all humanity must come to the knowledge that we are sinners, as the law tutors us. With the law, as our mirror, man should recognize that we are sinners and ultimately need Christ. Through the magnitude of creation, and our conscious, God has made a way that we are to see the flawed state we are born in because of The Fall. This is how the Holy Spirit draws sinful humanity to the realization of our depravity and our need for a Savior.
Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel welcome back special guests, Pastor Kelvin Page, from the Westmore Church of God, in Cleveland Tennessee and Tony Clanton with Operation Compassion. The group responds to environmental crises with disaster relief in some 79 nations. Brother Page shares the success of Operation Compassion’s Second Chance outreach that gives hope to men and women who have faced incarceration, but now have come to Christ. They are offered a second chance at life, with housing and training, along with the opportunity to serve the Lord. The panel continues their study in Romans teaching how the sin nature is made inoperative at salvation; it will stay that way, as long as our faith continues to be anchored in the finished work of Christ at Calvary.
Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel welcome two special guests, Pastor Kelvin Page, from the Westmore Church of God, in Cleveland Tennessee and Tony Clanton with Operation Compassion. For nearly 30 years, Operation Compassion has reached some 79 nations, with disaster relief for those regions struck by environmental catastrophes. Operation Compassion brings clean water to those who do not have clean water systems, along with food, Bibles, and ultimately, they bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost. By the grace of God, the group strives to help in every capacity that which also includes bringing a turnaround to people in need of a second chance in life.
By His stripes, we are healed, which is every aspect of Calvary. Today, on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:12-14 discussing the brutality of what Christ suffered on Calvary’s Cross and how He bore our sins in His body on a tree. Brother Joseph explains Isaiah 53:5 as past tense, seeing this as a prayer that Israel will pray when they finally recognize their Messiah as they look back at the reality of their Savior. Jesus was, and is, the Great Physician bringing healing to the malady of sin. Christ took up all our infirmities, both spiritual and physical, with the healing of the soul and with the healing of the body. This is the totality of what Jesus did on Calvary’s Cross.
There will always be a struggle, at one point or another, within the heart of every believer. Today, on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:14 discussing the Apostle Paul’s teaching on the corruption of the sin nature, which is an interruption of God’s original creation. Paul is setting up the understanding of death and life. We are saved by the life of Christ; so as the penalty of sin is taken care of, the power of sin has also been taken care of. The victorious life of Christ swallows up death in victory.
How do we stay in the favor of God? Today, on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:10 teaching on justification. God makes our relationship with Him secure; meaning, He assures our stance, when our faith remains in the finished work of Christ. The heartbeat of God beats constantly for His children. We have been reconciled, i.e., saved, by His life. The panel goes on to explain how man has everything he needs at salvation to share the good news of Jesus Christ to the lost. The Baptism with the Holy Spirit, which is a second subsequent work, also edifies and fortifies us to build His Kingdom through Evangelism.
All those who reject Jesus Christ will one day stand before Him in hell. Today, on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss being saved from the wrath of God. For those who confess Him as righteous Lord and Savior, these will avoid the wrath of God at that Great White Throne Judgement. When our faith remains in the finished work of Christ, we will stand before Him at the Judgement Seat of Christ; there, we will receive rewards, not judgement, for that which we did to build His Kingdom while we lived on this earth.
What is our heart attitude in the midst of our difficult circumstances? Today, on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss how the trials of life will either cause us to run closer to Him, or run from God. Jesus is our safe place. This place is where the Holy Spirit enters and ministers to us, no matter what trial comes our way. Be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed. This is not the time to forsake Him. Believer, run to Him, He never changes; regardless of our circumstances, He is a God of love, who saves us from wrath. He is our peace, and fights for us.
While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Today, on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:7-11 teaching on the many benefits that accompany our redemption. Justification, is the beginning; it, lays the foundation for ALL that Jesus died to provide us. How much more does God want to do in our lives? What does it mean to have abundant life? Jesus died for our freedom from sin. Brother John explains the exchange that was made on Calvary’s Cross. Life in Christ is full.
God requires that all men repent. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss how men and women won’t come to faith on their own. The grace of God pours out on lost humanity, as the Holy Spirit draws us; then, the Holy Spirit reveals to our sinful hearts our need for repentance. Faith comes at the point of revelation, for Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. We must respond appropriately in the faith He has given us; that is, believe and be saved.
Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss Romans 5:1-5 as they move their study into Romans 6. Every believer must know that we have a new source of living, and need to understand the process of how the Holy Spirit works. We must learn how we are to walk out our salvation; the same way we got into the family of God, is how we stay in. Even in the trials of life, we can unlock our inheritance that we have been given in Christ. His benefits are deep and plenty. He is a great God, and if we heed to His way, we will find His grace and mercy, and will glory in our tribulations. This is how He works endurance in our lives, so that we will come to know personally His peace and His joy through it all.
How do we love others as we are called to in the Word of God? Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss the love of God in the believer. It can only be manifest in our lives when we stay rooted and grounded in His love, which was poured out on Calvary’s Cross. The love of Romans 5 is what keeps all believers going. This is our hope, the love of God. Have you received it? His love is to edify and build up the body. It draws the lost to God. All Spiritual gifts, displayed in the Body of Christ, are motivated by the love of Christ.
They that come to God, must know, that He is what His Word says He is. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss the strength of our hope. On the Cross, Christ cut a covenant with every believer. This is where we find hope; His grace, overrides every ounce of shame we may carry. Brother Larson explains how our trials bring patience, endurance, experience, and hope. This is what will transform in us, when we believe in the hope that only faith in Christ can bring. We have all the benefits of Christ available to us the moment we are justified by faith in Him alone.
To live, is Christ, but to die is gain. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:4-5 teaching on biblical hope, which is not living our best life now, but our eternal life spent with Christ. Brother Larson explains how the believer must have three priorities as a Christian; these being, live Christ, share Christ, see Christ. These can only occur when our faith is anchored in the finished work of Christ, then we will have supernatural power through the Holy Spirit to live a Christlike life. We cannot trust in ourselves, but in Christ alone. We must know there is nothing good in our flesh. Christ is our life source. He is the reason we have life.
We abide in what we already have in Christ, no matter what. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel read Romans 5:3-5 discussing how the Lord sets a table for us in the presence of our enemies. Victory does not mean the elimination of problems. His is a supernatural supply in the midst of our persecution. By faith, we are complete in Him, this is our victory. As trials still come, our dependence on Him deepens; then, we are that much more victorious. This is the refiner’s fire we read about in God’s Word. His desire is to transform us into the image of Christ.
We can have joy in chaos, and peace that makes no sense. Today on The Message of The Cross, Pastor Loren Larson and panel discuss the growth that stems from justification. The believer must realize that fruit comes through tribulation. The believer will often feel pressed. Reading Romans 5:3, we find that tribulation works something positive in us, as a result of our circumstances. Tribulation is a co-laborer with God to help us in the maturity that develops in our Christian character, which will glorify the finished work of Christ. Our anchored faith, in Christ, is the only way the Holy Spirit will work on our behalf to transform us into His image.
