this is so fascinating to me. it didn't rain at all on Blanca ellingwood for us. it was dry the whole down climb. there was a weather system below us that took out our tent so instead of camping we hiked down. we have completely different memories.

If "my ridge" is the hardest I've done, I'd say the saddle between Blanca and ellingwood was the most arduous. ridges I'd like to do: between bierstadt and Evans rumdoodle on pikes Columbia and harvard crestone saddle kit Carson and challenger wait....is a ridge different than a saddle? is one always the other but the other isn't necessarily the former? I'm excited for when we come out to explore the extra credit Evans stuff.

it's a good thing we didn't come out this year. we were planning on Evans. sorry I don't accept renaming of things. Names hold nostalgia and meaning for me. Gulf of Mexico Mt. Evans Mt. McKinley If it has an original native name that's fine. Zach did what I should have done on la plata. I summited but I wouldn't do that again.

Evans I don't care who you are, respect history. If it has a Native name, I'll go with that. Zach was wise for turning around. The last 300 yards are usually the toughest. That's what I should have done on La Plata, fortunately I was spared but I wouldn't do it again.

before I listen here are my top ten recommendations: -Choose a well marked route -practice hydration while you walk -know your body well enough to go at a pace that you aren't sucking wind and having to stop every step to look toward the summit -carry easily digestible/ingestible snacks high in protein and carbs. (peanut butter is my favorite) -start early and wear a headlamp. it helps avoid weather and you won't have to depend as much on superior fitness to summit before the storms roll in. nothing wrong with watching the sun rise from up top. -bring a water filtration device and take note of water sources along the way -go with someone confident AND experienced in what they are doing -if possible do one that is a day hike vs a full pack camping experience. let your physical response to altitude be the only issue you face. don't compound it with a billion lbs of gear -give yourself time to stop and soak in the views. -if you are well below the summit and gray clouds are already formin

Does hearing that Longs is Roaches favorite 14er make you feel different about me taking you up there for your first summit? You have strong stuff in you sir.

Eric this makes me so happy. Hearing how you have dove headlong into being a local. Roads, lesser known peaks, etc. If we lived closer we would def be hiking buddies. It's hard to find people who love nature/exercise/exploring around here. I'm sorry but running around a church parking lot with a cinder block at 5 am just ain't my thing.

I'm glad we have never got lost. I wouldn't want to add "idiot" to my resume of adjectives/expletives I earned from our other hikes. 🤣

Decided not to hike one day due to clouds at 7 am. other than that our double turn back for Holy Cross. My song for holy Cross is long time by Boston. Don't knock cold peas until you've tried them. after that, feel free. lyric rewrite: well I'm taking my time, just moving along. the mountain'll forget about me after Ive been gone. And I took what I found, I didn't want no more, stopped just short of your front door. It was such a long time. It was such a loooong time!" (acoustic solo)

At the time, that traverse seemed scary. I had doubts. It was my first 2 for 1. Once we committed we just went into autopilot. I was worried about getting stuck in weather.

my song for longs peak is "she's a beauty" by the tubes, because the mountain doesn't care.
