Welcome to FamilyCore, where real conversations unfold. In this episode, Mzokoloko, sits down with traditional healer Bongani Langa to chat about marriage.
Bongani shares a straightforward perspective – sorting out marriage and family issues requires looking back at our history as a black nation. He breaks down the idea that we've lost touch with ubuntu, pointing out how intentional disruptions in the black South African family structure have left us divided and dependent on employment and handouts.
Highlighting the reality that men were often separated from their families due to work, Bongani suggests that very few people have experienced a genuine family structure. He keeps it real.
Bongani's advice? Connect with your spirits. He believes it's a key guide for any journey, especially marriage.
Give this episode a listen and don't forget to share. Remember, the views shared here are Bongani's own and don't necessarily represent FamilyCore or Mzokoloko. It's a down-to-earth conversation about the complexities of family and marriage – just like life.

Welcome to the very first episode of our podcast, Before Nishade. I'm your host, Mzokoloko, and I'm coming to you live from the bustling heart of our home, the kitchen. As I sit here an hour before embarking on the daily adventure of picking up our three wonderful kids - Nkazimulu, Phethokuhle, and Sbanesihle - from their respective schools, it occurs to me that I'm living a real-life sitcom. Oh, and did I mention they all attend different schools? Yes, you heard that right! But wait, there's more. I also have the delightful task of picking up my amazing wife, Nokwazi, from her workplace. So, you could say that juggling schedules is something of a specialty around here.
Now, let me give you a little backstory. Nokwazi and I have been married for seven fantastic years (at least, at the time of writing this). We've ridden this rollercoaster called marriage and, believe me, it's been quite the adventure. Recently, we embarked on a journey of self-discovery through therapy, and boy, did we learn a lot about ourselves and our relationship. It was during this time that the idea for this podcast was born. It took us months of behind-the-scenes work, researching topics, gathering the necessary equipment, finding the perfect recording space, and navigating the ever-elusive factor of time. And yes, there was that little issue of funds too. But one day, as a result of our commitment to nurturing a harmonious marriage, we made a bold decision. We skipped paying our house bond for a month to invest in the equipment we needed.
My wife insisted that people should experience this journey with us. She wanted us to help others improve their relationships and achieve mental wellness by inviting experts to discuss hot topics related to marriage and raising kids on the show. And I must admit, it was a brilliant idea.
A few years back, I had the pleasure of meeting an exceptional pastor by the name of Thulani Ncanana. We crossed paths when I was the MC at a wedding he was officiating. There was an instant connection, and I was drawn to his no-nonsense, no-holds-barred advice. I began inviting him to my radio shows, and when the idea of starting a podcast finally took shape, Pastor Ncanana was the first guest that came to mind.
I promise you, this man of God leaves no truth unturned. His insights are profound, and his wisdom is boundless. So, hold onto your seats because this podcast is going to be one exhilarating ride.
Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, I present to you our very first podcast episode - Before Nishade." Now, be warned, the truth bombs are about to drop!
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. And please, feel free to suggest topics you'd like us to explore in the future. You can reach us at www.mzokolokotv.co.za . Thanks for joining us on this exciting journey, and let's make some podcasting magic together!
Here is a teaser of what's to come on our podcast.
I'm excited as I write this.

Welcome Family Core episode 3 as we talk about a really important part of relationships—when you're expecting a baby. It's a special time, and you'll get what I mean when you hear our guest on the show.
Just before I shared this episode, something cute happened. I picked up our oldest kid, Nkazimulo, and he wanted to sit in the front seat. Looking at him, I realized he's turning 9 soon. It made me think about how people used to say, "Enjoy them while you can because they grow up fast," and now I totally get it.
In our house, we've got three lively kids, aged 8, 7, and 5. If you asked me ten years ago how many kids I wanted, I'd probably have said none. But meeting their mom changed everything; she was the missing piece to my puzzle.
I used to worry about having kids because of how I grew up. I didn't want things to be the same for my family. Luckily, my wife is kind and really good at understanding feelings, something I wasn't sure I had enough of to raise a happy family.
Our guest today is Pinky Mhlongo, a Social Worker from Durban. She'll help us understand what to talk about when planning to have kids and when might be the right time.
