Description

A new era is upon us in Queens as Rick Pitino sets out to make St. John's basketball relevant again. Join current St. John's University student, Ryan Olson, as he talks all things Red Storm hoops. As an SJU student, I want to create a deeper sense of camaraderie among the 15,000-plus students who call St. John's home. I am beyond excited for what's to come under Rick and I want to share that excitement and passion with the St. John's community! I hope you enjoy!

The Red Storm conquered tremendous feats in just year one of the Rick Pitino era here at St. John's: 20 wins, playing on Friday night of the Big East Tournament, and winning their first game at the Finn in 31 years. Yes, it certainly hurt to miss the big dance, but at this time next year, I can guarantee you that this program will hear their name called. Join me as I reflect on the past week and stay tuned till the end as I rank my top 5 moments of the season. Thanks so much for listening and I hope you enjoy!
It's the most wonderful time of the year: Big East Tournament week! In episode 16, I take you through my game-by-game predictions for the Big East Tournament and explain why St. John's has to beat Seton Hall on Thursday to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive. Stay tuned to the end to see which team I have cutting down the nets as Big East Champions. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy!
On episode 15 of the Talkin' Johnnies podcast, I take my listeners along with me on my trip to Indianapolis where I had the luxury of seeing a season-changing St. John's W. Then, I dive right into the metrics: what St. John's needs to do to hear their name called, how many Quad 1 wins they'll need, who to root for down the stretch, and so much more. Also stay tuned till the latter half of the episode where I blindly compare two bubble teams' resumes to that of the Red Storm's. Thanks for listening and I hope you all enjoy!
On episode 14 of the Talkin' Johnnies podcast, I am joined by St. John's Athletic Director, Mike Cragg. Mr. Cragg and I touch on yesterday's huge win, the controversy surrounding court storming, his relationship with Coach K and so much more! Plus stay tuned at the end to learn Mr. Cragg's go to spot for a NY slice. I hope you all enjoy and thanks for listening!
Sunday 12 O'Clock you all know where you should be. The answer: Madison Square Garden cheering on your St. John's Red Storm in their biggest remaining game of the regular season. I'll preview the contest with the red hot Creighton Bluejays and explain why the Red Storm desperately need this one for their already slim NCAA tournament chances.
Another gut wrenching defeat. Another halftime lead down the drain. Does this team have a final run in them or did Sunday seal the deal? We’ll have to wait and see. I recap the loss, explain how the Red Storm can still make the dance, and dissect Rick’s questionable post game comments. I hope you all enjoy!
On Episode 11, I am joined by St. John's beat reporter, Zach Braziller. I ask Zach some of the many questions fans have on their minds regarding the Red Storm's latest skid. Zach explains why Rick still has his fastball, how the Johnnies can still make the tourney, and why next season will be nothing like this season. Give it a listen Johnnie nation!
So close, but yet so far! On Saturday, we saw one team in the first half and a completely different team in the second in a disheartening loss to the #7 Marquette Golden Eagles. When is this team going to stop making the same mistakes. I don't want to hear the first year BS from Rick anymore. I just want to make the NCAA tournament, is that too much to ask? It very well might be as St. Johns has dropped 6 of their last 8.
In the past week, St. John's got a taste of both the top and bottom of the Big East when they squared off against #1 UConn and winless DePaul. A disheartening defeat to the Huskies followed by a convincing W leaves the Johnnies at 14-9 (6-6) with plenty of work to be done. I'll highlight how the emergence of Jordan Dingle can elevate this team to a new level and why Sean Conway might see some more minutes going forward. I hope you all enjoy!
A new month means new opportunities for a Red Storm team that desperately needs a spark. A signature win over the #1 Huskies in front of a sold-out MSG would be a great place to start. I preview the much-anticipated tilt between the two and try and forget about what happened Wednesday night. I hope you all enjoy!
You probably remember the phrase "40 minutes of hell" from the Mike Anderson era in Queens. Unfortunately, more times than not it was 40 minutes of hell for the Red Storm during his regime. But on Wednesday night, the Red Storm flipped the script securing a season sweep of the Villanova Wildcats for the first time since the '92-93' season. I break down Joel Soriano's emphatic bounce-back performance and the Red Storm's relentless defense from start to finish. I hope you enjoy!
"Just One Time," I said to myself as the Johnnies dropped yet another heartbreaker on Saturday after missing multiple quality looks in the final minute. On this episode, I am joined by the one and only, my dad, to discuss RJ Luis' breakout performance, the Red Storm's questionable late-game execution, and so much more. Hope you enjoy!
On Tuesday night, the Prudential Center once again proved itself to be a house of horrors for the Red Storm. The shorthanded squad surrendered a whopping 28-0 run that put this one completely out of reach. The Red Storm will now gear up for a HUGE contest with #17 Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday. I'll preview that one and talk about how the Johnnies can move on from a rough week on the road. I hope you all enjoy!
It's been a while but the Talkin' Johnnies podcast is back! On Saturday the Red Storm had a golden opportunity to pick up a Quad 1 win over the Creighton Bluejays but the officials had other plans. Two blatant missed calls in the final minute crushed the Red Storm's chances of walking out of Omaha with a W. I'll recap the devastating loss and explain why Tuesday night in Newark is a must-win for the Red Storm. I hope you enjoy!
With KD in attendance and a sold-out Carnesecca Arena, the St. John's Red Storm cruised to victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders 91-45. RJ Luis Jr. returned to the court with a BANG and the bench put together some solid minutes after the starters took command. Join me as I recap the victory and look ahead to the Red Storm's first true road test against the West Virginia Mountaineers. Hope you guys enjoy!
The Johnnies would salvage a 2-1 road trip down to Charleston with a monumental win over the Utah Utes on Sunday 91-82 . With the win, the Johnnies took home 3rd place in the Charleston Classic. Join me as I highlight why this victory was a huge step in the right direction for a team still trying to develop an identity. I hope you all enjoy!
What's going on Johnny Nation! Welcome to the first episode of my new podcast Talkin' Johnnies, a podcast dedicated to all things Red Storm hoops. In today's episode, I recap the first two contests in Charleston and I also talk about my goal to get the student section more engaged upon the Johnnies return to Queens. I hope you all enjoy!
