Welcome to the Citizens Advisory Podcast presented by the Citizens Advisory of Pennsylvania. Join Executive Director Jess Stahlnecker and guest Gwen Deluca as they discuss the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA), current legislation that would give them a monopoly on school board director training, and the fact that they are lobbying with our tax dollars. The original intent was to interview Gwen, a former school board director in Western PA, about a common sense policy that allowed for the review and challenge of age-inappropriate library materials in school. However, research and conversation quickly evolved as Gwen began looking into the lobbying expenses for the PSBA. This is an eye-opening conversation you won't want to miss! Welcome to the Citizens Advisory Podcast presented by the Citizens Advisory of Pennsylvania. Join Executive Director, Jess Stahlnecker and President Ben Herring as they talk election integrity, what's going on in the 117th legislative district race and the enormous impact the final outcome will have on the 2024 general election. As it stands right now, on May 6th, we still do not know the final results of the 2024 primary race between our former president and co-founder Jamie Walsh and Incumbent Mike Cabell in the 117th legislative district. With multiple ballots still in question, the public awaits more hearings and ultimately decisions on both mail-in ballots and provisionals. Ben goes through all of the issues with these ballots, along with the precedential court cases that should make these decisions very clear. You'll definitely want to listen and sharpen your knowledge on the election processes and precedents as all of this will no doubt come into play in November. Join Executive Director Jess Stahlnecker as she interviews Alexis Pasternak about the UNESCO initiatives that have become part of our public schools. Alexis is from Haverford Township, Delaware County, PA. She is a wife, and mom and lives in the same town she grew up in. Alexis' son attends Haverford School District, her alma mater. She left her job in 2010 to be a stay at home mom. Like many parents, she had a wakeup call during a virtual school day in 2020. After that she went from 0-60 and started REALLY looking at her district's website, policies, meetings minutes and videos, and researching in general what is happening in education (locally, PA, U.S., globally). Join Executive Director Jess Stahlnecker and guest Tim Jagger as they discuss the Perkiomen Valley School District bathroom policy 720. Tim is one of the parents who questioned the bathroom policy at Perkiomen Valley when his daughter came home from school on the first day and said there was a male student in the girl's bathroom. In this quick and to the point interview, Jess and Tim go through the entire story of how common-sense parents and students banded together to show their support for gender specific facilities to protect all students. This made national news and Tim was interviewed on both Fox and Newsmax. Ultimately, after one failed attempt, policy 720 was passed in the district keeping bathroom use to "gender at birth," a HUGE swing in the right direction. Join Executive Director Jess Stahlnecker and Vice President Ben Herring as they discuss the latest White House overreach. In June, joe biden announced Department of Education Office of Civil Rights will begin informing districts on how reviewing and removing books from schools challenged by parents can create a racially and sexually hostile environment in violation of federal law. We decided that because of what we've seen in the past few years: a ton of executive orders and bureaucratic orders and recommendations, it would be great to talk about the difference in these "orders" vs legislation and how these orders many times don't stand up in a court of law.
