I. SLIP, SLIDIN' AWAY—how Asaph almost lost himself (vv. 1–16) A. Notice that Asaph almost did lose himself (vv. 1–2) B. How did Asaph almost lose himself? 1. First, he __________ those who were unfaithful to God (vv. 3–12) 2. Then, he __________ himself (vv. 13–14) 3. What kept him from saying this out loud? (v. 15) 4. But it still overwhelmed him (v. 16) [Sing TPH 73A (stanzas 1–5)] II. THE TURNAROUND—how Asaph found himself (vv. 17–28) A. What was the turning point? (v. 17a) B. Reconnecting with the living God turned him right side up: 1. How did he now see the ungodly? (vv. 18–20) 2. How did he now see his spiritual struggle? (vv. 21–22) 3. How did he now see God? (vv. 23–26) 4. When he rediscovered God, he rediscovered himself (vv. 27–28) [Sing TPH 73A (stanzas 6–10)] III. So … HOW DO YOU FIND YOURSELF? A. How did Asaph find himself? 1. When Asaph was in crisis mode what was he looking at? But when he drew near to God, what did he start looking at? 2. When Asaph was in crisis mode, what did he center everything on? But when he drew near to God, what did he start centering all things on? B. And that's how you can find yourself. Jesus says—Revelation 3:20-- "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."
