Certainly not make any single one of us root for Aiden; everything that made Aiden "the one that got away" is now gone, leaving us with "GO AWAY, AIDEN!" After breaking this 200 year old glass (Carrie is the first person on earth who cares about GLASS this much) Aiden makes a shocking reveal, which Carrie reacts to by shrugging and then gaslighting the entire audience into thinking we should have known her stance. Miranda and Joy are actually kind of a breath of fresh air, so let’s at least be grateful for that. Something else we are ALWAYS grateful for? Jennifer Lewis. This woman can spin gold out of whatever this writing is. LTW's dad dies for the second time in the series, and there are a couple fleeting moments of greatness in the funeral (other than the egregious butchering of the lyrics of a Stephen Schwartz classic opening number). Meanwhile, Seema is apparantly dirt poor, so that's at least the first semi-relatable storyline so far! This episode had a TON to discuss this week! First of all, it was randomly kind of good, but that also might just be us reacting to something of substance after oh so many episodes of complete "HUH???". The MAIN topic of discussion is the subject of Wyatt. Ohhhh...Wyatt. Your two hosts are VERY split on our opinions of this kid. While we agree the actor is quite remarkable (because we all universally think this kid is the WORST), but where we differ is our thoughts on whether Wyatt's behavior is warrented and his family is being too hard on him, or if maybe this kid needs a good dose of SUCK IT UP AND GET OVER IT! Meanwhile, Miranda is now housesitting on an open-ended timeline, and after an embarassing on-air snafu, she is feeling slef conscious about her situation with the lovely Joy, who we LOVE. Harry is reduced to a bitchy neighbor who is also semi-impotent (not Charlotte's first ride around the carousel), Seema has a her own Jerry Maguire moment, and LTW and George Washington have some sleep paralysis demons coming to put their marriage to the test. Remember last week when we had…oh what’s the word…OPTIMISM about season three? Well, all of that went out the window with, whatever this was. Carrie apparantly now is fine with squirrels, but can barely keep her own cat within its nine lives. She also has “outdoor heels” which is…sigh. Miranda leads a storyline that is really just MPK, with his zero sense of humor or self awareness, giving a big EFF YOU to his loyal audience. Season 3 is HERE BABY and we are fully PLUCKED. Mostly because we were expecting this to be as much of a hot mess as S1 & S2 but low and behold, what's this? GROWTH IN THE WRITERS ROOM? We are cautiously optomisticc about this season now based on the high points in this premiere (and believe us, we also point out the many flaws), such as Miranda breaking out of of her weird brain transplant from the the prior episodes, Carrie's friends actually acknowledging what a bad idea this situation with Aiden is, and, best of all: ROSIE. We knew our girl could pull this off, but the extra grace and levity she brings to the character of Mary makes us both proud to be lifelong Rosie stans. As we reach the end of season 3, we pay homage to the consistency of the writing, costumes, acting, and story arcs of all of these episodes! It will especially be on our mind as we enter season 3 of AJLT, and its almost impossible to not compare and think "ummm what the HECK happened???" But like all of us millennial fans with the appropriate Stockholm Syndrome, We will go into AJLT with positive thoughts and prayers. On this episode, Carrie plans to meet with Big "one more time" for some closure, and Miranda IS. NOT. HEARING. IT. Which, of course, makes Miranda the devil (according to Carrie, who expects a voicemail apology by the time she arrives home). Miranda is shamed by a Chinese restaurant hostess, but is it really just herself projecting? (spoiler: yes AND; the woman is literally laughing at her), Samantha has a super problematic-but-at-the-same-time kinda progressive battle with some "working girls" below her window, and Charlotte and Trey finally manage to CUM to an understanding. Is this one of the most iconic episodes of the entire series, or has every storyline in here become pretty out dated? As it turn out, two things can be very true at the same time. While this episode perfectly captures the humidity of summertime in New York and. the fashion is ON POINT, its no longer really a THING to judge someone for having to live with their family, or to be shocked by the appearance of marijuana on our tv screens. But back in the late 90's, we were happy to see that 420 representation! Also, Trey continues to be the absolute WORST baby adult ever, and refuses to acknowledge that his issue in the bedroom needs to be DEALT WITH. Also, Miranda gets braces. It’s week two of the L.A. episodes…and week 25 of the girls’ trip, according to the timeline being fed to us here! We have received the messages from the "we hate Steve" club and we hear you loud and clear! It almost seems as if you all knew this episode was about to happen, because BOY do we have a difficult time defending this man-baby on this one.
