Created, Not Consumed is a space where we slow down and protect the art behind the content. In this episode, we examine how social media has reshaped reading culture—turning books into performance, critique into currency, and authors into targets. We talk about the rise of public DNF culture, the unrealistic expectations placed on new and Black authors, and the emotional toll of creating under constant scrutiny. This conversation isn’t about silencing opinions—it’s about accountability, empathy, and remembering that stories are made by real people, not algorithms. If you love books and the people who write them, this episode invites you to reconsider how you engage, critique, and consume art in a digital age that rarely pauses to reflect

Welcome to this segment of Young, Black, and Bookish where I'll be discussing one of my favorite book series - the Thug series by Wahida Clark. The author, who has spent time behind bars, has done an excellent job of keeping her readers engaged in this series. Initially, each chapter was broken down by character, which made it easier for me to keep up with the story and remember all the details. However, as the series progressed, the author changed her approach, and stopped breaking down the chapters this way. Despite this, I still enjoyed the series. For this segment, I will introduce you to the main characters of the first two books in the series, so that you can get a feel for their personalities and what's going on in their daily lives.
