Welcome to Season 2 of How'd You End Up Doing That! This week we are speaking with Ben Tallon, author and host of The Creative Condition book and podcast of the same name. We talk about how Ben found his feet in the creative industries, what led him to getting his first book deal and the inspiration behind his latest book.
Welcome to How'd You End Up Doing That! This episode, while being the final episode of season 1 of the podcast, also serves very much as the introduction to the season in a sort of circular fashion. This episode is a look at the inspiration behind the podcast and a run through of the first 10 episodes. If you listen to this and want to get in touch, either if you have some feedback or you think you've got a story you'd like to tell people then feel free to get in touch on [email protected], or you can find me on Twitter - @lxjffrs
This weeks episode is with Deborah Price who works as a production coordinator with Aardman Animation in Bristol - previously working on Chicken Run 2, Dawn of the Nugget and currently working on the next Wallace and Grommit production which will be coming out on Christmas Day 2024. In a previous role at DNEG, she worked as part of the production team on the Disney film Rons Gone Wrong. It’s a great chat about all things film production, looking at the different roles available to people who are interested in the creative industries, but might be looking for a role which sits outside of the regular scope of what people think of as creative. You can watch Chicken Run 2, Dawn of the Nugget on Netflix now - and if you’ve got anything you’d like to ask feel free to email me at [email protected]
This week's episode is with Sue Revell who works as a leadership coach, a podcast host, director with Practise Solutions and a guest lecturer. She’s had a fascinating career going from working as a nurse through a range of managerial roles to ending up where she is now. We talk about how she overcame adversity in sexist attitudes and working with difficult people, how she decided she wanted to host a podcast and what she thought about the move from working in the public sector world to then being a self employed coach. This weeks episode is with Gary Piazzon, who is the founder of Porter Travel - a business which has evolved and pivoted a few times but the core idea is about making the process of travel simpler. Gary’s career started in Admiral Insurance as a stop gap job while he worked out what he was going to do and the journey he went on from that is quite the story. https://www.portertravel.co.uk/ Gary now also runs Innovators Uncensored, a media business which publishes a regular newsletter aiming to help startup founders. They are also organising their first event which takes place on the 21st of March in Cardiff. https://www.innovatorsuncensored.com/ Between Admiral and now there’s also stories of socks, soaps and jewellery and other startup stories, so pack your bags and hop onboard as we go on a journey through startup life.
