Many creators and influencers may not fully grasp the impact of their actions on social media, nor are they obligated to promote a positive or moral agenda. They capitalize on their popularity, often channeling it into paid advertisements that financially support them.
The real issue lies with us, the consumers. Our tendency to elevate influencers who ride trends to a superior status leads to disappointment when their actions are self-serving. We need to remember that they’re just regular people making choices that serve their own interests.
When a creator prioritizes their own benefit without regard for the impact, I find it difficult to see them as a role model or influencer.
Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.
