Week 32 - Clun Forest

Week 32 - Clun Forest

Week 32 - Clun Forest Show NotesWelcome to Week 32 in the 52 Weeks of Sheep Adventure! This week Allie and I are talking about the Clun Forest breed of sheep - another conservation breed. We talk about their purposes, fiber, and those ears that make them look like they are standing at attention! We do our normal conversation meandering from gardening to weather and a few other topics in between.  Also in this episode: I mistakingly “mis-quote” the Livestock Conservancy’s Threatened status in the beginning of the podcast. I do correct myself later on in the podcast, but for clarity, I should have said that it should be fewer than 1000 registered and 5.000 globally.  The perky ear breed I couldn’t remember was Cheviot.According to the Department of Agriculture and Food, Resistance to worms in sheep is an inherited trait that can be increased by selection. The heritability of worm resistance, as measured indirectly by individual sheep faecal WEC, is at least 25%. This means that 25% of the phenotypic superiority of an animal will be passed on to their progeny. For more information as to worm resistance in sheep and breeding, I found the following article online from Signet Breeding Services. You can read their article and information by visiting the following link: https://signetdata.com/news/posts/2023/january/breeding-for-worm-resistance-in-sheep/You can find 52 Weeks of Sheep online on:Patreon: www.patreon.com/52weeksofsheep (where all the podcasts and Bonus Episodes live)Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/52weeksofsheep (where we started almost 8 years ago)Instagram: @52weeksofsheepYou can find Allie online at:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/curlyewefarmInstagram: @curlyewefarmsYou can find Tammy online at:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/goldieknotsmtInstagram: @goldieknotsmtWebsite: www.goldieknotsmt.comThanks again for joining us - we appreciate all of you listening!
