After a little lay off, Episode 6 sees me speaking with physical preparation coach and former fitness coach at Hammerby IF, Mladen Jovanovic. Mladen has recently been described as a GENIUS by a previous 'guest' on the podcast! With previous episodes being quite general, I wanted to really focus in on Mladen's knowledge on periodisation in team sports and how he gets conditioning work in during a busy in-season period. Mladen also speaks about his highly successful website complementarytraining.net and how coaches can utilise his Excel wizardry to maximise and simplify their programme design.  Don't forget to rate the podcast and keep in touch by subscribing on iTunes. This episode I am speaking with Head of Athletic Development at Western Force, David Joyce. I have recently been reading High Performance Training for Sports which David co-edited and contributed to, and I wanted to speak with him about those specific chapters. We chat about mental resilience as well as the intricacies of movement efficiency. It was such a pleasure to chat with David who is an awesome guy with so much experience, much of which was over here in the UK. High Performance Training for Sports should definitely be on the reading list of any coach who wants a practical tour around the minds of the best in the business.  Don't forget to keep up to date with each episode as it goes live @paceyperform. In this episode I speak with another author from the book High Performance Training for Sports, Mike McGuigan. Mike is also a professor at the Sports Performance Research Institute in New Zealand and is putting some great research out there at the moment on strength and power development, data presentation and performance testing. I speak with Mike about prioritising interventions with so much data collection going on, determining how much strength transfers to performance and how individualised training should be. Mike is a SUPER smart guy but he does such a great job of simplifying complex statistics for us mere mortals.  Any feedback you have on any of the episodes so far would be appreciated and keep spreading the podcast word! Keep up to date on Twitter @paceyperform and you can also catch previous episodes on paceyperformance.co.uk. Mike can be found on Twitter @mike_mcguigan Enjoy PP
This episode sees me speaking with Jason Weber. For those that don't know, Jason has been involved in elite sport for the last 20 years working in AFL and rugby union and is currently working at the Freemantle Dockers in AFL. Jason puts some great content out via his blog and website, Oldbullfitness.com and our chat revolves around some of his thoughts which he speaks so passionately about in his blog. He talks about his 4 guiding principles for team training design as well as working in harmony with physios and his view on technology. I was absolutely buzzing after this chat (and the 30 minutes we talked afterwards) and I am sure you will too. His passion for his work is clear and for this reason it was one of the best episodes I have put out.  Again, don't forget to subscribe on iTunes and any feedback, good or bad would be massively appreciated! Check out all previous episodes of the podcast at paceyperformance.co.uk and follow me on Twitter at @paceyperform Enjoy PP
This episode sees me speaking with Darren Roberts, who for those that don't know (but SHOULD), he is the high performance manager at Harris & Ross physiotherapy after 8 years as high performance manager at Red Bull. Darren gives a very unique insight into working with a very unique population in extreme sport athletes. The current state of S&C in the UK, creating the 'performance playground' and integrating that philosophy into more traditional sports are all topics of conversation in this episode. We also discuss my very brief encounter working with Chris Holder (2013 world speedway champion) after being 'thrown under the bus' by Darren after visiting his gym back in July. Don't forget to subscribe on iTunes and any feedback, good or bad would be massively appreciated! In this episode I had the privilege of speaking with Wasps Rugby senior strength and conditioning coach, Tom Mclaughlin. I chat with Tom about his background, as well as what training methods he is using at the minutes with the first team. He also discusses the journey of a junior rugby player at Wasps & his willingness for his junior players to continue playing other sports to develop overall athleticism. It has been a real privilege to speak to some of the best S&C coaches and sports scientists in the game at the moment so hopefully these podcasts are being of use. In this episode I speak with an absolute genius in Carl Valle. Carl has coached athletics at every level, from high school to the Olympic level in the sprints and hurdles. Carl's knowledge & expertise in performance data as well as practical application of equipment and software is second to none and we discuss these topics at length in the episode. He also goes into lots of detail on monitoring load, jumping for team sports and his thought on velocity based training. The use of technology has exploded over the last 10-15 years and Carl does a great job of breaking these down & the myths and pitfalls of many currently out there.  If you like the episodes, please following me on Twitter @paceyperform and you can keep up to date with all new episodes. Or even better you can subscribe on iTunes or listen online at paceyperformance.co.uk.  Enjoy PP
This episode sees me speaking with lead strength & conditioning coach of GB snow board cross & alpine ski, John Noonan. I first got in touch with John through LinkedIn about 6 months ago and he was kind enough to give up half an hour of his time for a chat about his journey through various sports. I then saw him speak at the UKSCA conference this year and had to get him to speak on the podcast. John talks about his Phd research, giving his athletes the ability to 'freestyle' in training the his 'athletic capacity evaluation'. Its such a great interview with John as he works with a group of athletes with such a completely different mindset to training compared with more traditional sports. However, working with this group has so much cross over to the traditional sports and I certainly took a lot away from this chat.  You can click subscribe on iTunes to get the latest episodes straight to your laptop, phone or tablet. Episode 17 sees me having a great chat with strength & conditioning coach and owner of the Training Lab, Andy 'Iron Mac' McKenzie. Andy puts some great information out there and after booking on to his core training workshop I had to get him on. We discuss everything from his background in the military to his thoughts on body weight and core training. Andy also gives a great insight into running an S&C facility which he has done very successfully over the last few years. This is a great episode for all those that are thinking about setting up there own facility & those wondering whether working with the general public is a viable option....which after listening you will hear that it is!  If you want to subscribe to the podcast, shoot over to iTunes and press 'subscribe'. Episode 18 of the podcast sees me speaking with Tom Summers who was one of the first guys who was kind enough to let me visit Yorkshire County Cricket to see how their programme ran back in 2012. Tom was head of strength & conditioning at Yorkshire County Cricket and is now living in Hong Kong, running his own gym, Pinnacle Performance. Because Tom is in direct competition with many CrossFit boxes in Hong Kong, we talk about his views on CrossFit as a brand and how he differentiates his business and educates clients on his philosophies. We also chat about his work with both Hong Kong baseball and Hong Kong Cricket and touch on some programming for cricketers as a whole.  Please subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and it will be downloaded onto your chosen device when new episodes are live. In this episode of the podcast I am really privileged to be speaking with ex fitness and conditioning coach at Liverpool and current high performance manager at Port Adelaide FC, Darren Burgess. I really wanted an episode to focus around recovery with loads of team sports hitting busy periods in their calender and thought Darren would be the perfect guy! We discuss strategies to aid with travel, which Darren has to deal with week in, week out. Darren also goes into great depth into his protocols for assessing neuromuscular fatigue, heart rate recovery and heart rate variability. Darren also talks about the High Performance Sports Program which he and Jason Weber have developed. A series of webinars, videos and e-books gets your learning from two of the best guys in the business!  For more information visit oldbullfitness.com Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or download the podomatic app to listen on the go. In this episode I am very lucky to speak with head of strength & conditioning for men's and women's basketball at the University of Richmond, Jay De Mayo. I was so excited to speak with a true legend of S&C and it was very kind of him to give up 40 minutes of his time to speak on the podcast. We discussed what the journey is like for a student coming through his programme, how he conditions his players during the long in-season and how he develops 'agility' in his basketball players and his tennis players. We also discuss his annual seminar that he runs and you can find out more about this at CVASPS.com.    Jay can be found on twitter @jdemayo If want to keep in touch with everything that's going on with the podcast you can follow me @paceyperform.
