Movie adaptations of videogames have a fairly infamous reputation for being...well, let's be honest, terrible. But surely an entire genre can't be written off? Of the hundreds made so far, there must be a few good ones, right? Join hosts Jamie and Rory as they suffer through the seemingly endless sea of bad videogame movies in search of the few diamonds in the rough. There will be laughs, tears (mostly from Jamie) and nerdy details nobody could possibly care about!
Let us suffer through these terrible movies, so you don't have to!

This week on VGMP we dip into the Hitman franchise for the first time with this 2007 movie. As a self confessed "olyphan" will Jamie finally approve of a video game movie? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On this week's episode of VGMP we're looking at a little known videogame movie; Company Of Heroes. Starring Tom Sizemore, Vinnie Jones and regular VGMP actor Neal McDonough. Deep in enemy territory, soldiers from a few allied nations are forced to work together to infiltrate a German prison and rescue a scientist who has been working on a top secret weapon. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We are now five movies deep in the "Anderson-verse" of Resident Evil movies and Jamie is almost at breaking point as his favourite franchise continues to be butchered on screen. These movies continue to ignore their own continuity and in this instalment the movie takes on a videogame feel in the worst way, being split across several "levels" in Umbrella's testing facility. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Once again Uwe Boll is back in the hot seat as we review another of his video game movie offerings, this time it's "In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale." Starring Jason Statham as a man named Farmer, this is Lord Of The Rings via Wish.com including an appearance from Gimli himself (Jonathan Rhys-Davies), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) and an evil dark wizard played by...Ray Liotta!? Seriously? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Based on the blockbuster game, A Minecraft Movie was surprisingly a blockbuster hit at the cinemas, relying on the current mantra that all videogame movie should cast Jack Black and embracing the popular memes of the game to create a wave of box office success. Neither Jamie or Rory are Minecraft fans going into this viewing, so is the movie welcoming to new viewers or do you have to already be a fan of the game to appreciate its charms? Hosted on Acast. This Japanese movie from 1997 is based on the Konami dating sim franchise of the same name. A rare movie in the VGMP pantheon; our first and only episode based on a dating sim. The movie sees a group of teens taking a job at a seaside café during their last summer before university and bonding over the experience. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Rory brings Jamie his favourite entry in the animated Mortal Kombat Legends franchise to review. Cage Match follows Johnny Cage as his Hollywood pursuits lead him into a nefarious underground cult hellbent on resurrecting an all powerful sorcerer. Hosted on Acast. This week Rory and Jamie are reviewing this infamously bad movie from the early 90s based on the classic beat 'em up franchise. Set in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, the movie follows two brothers in a race against time to find the two halves of the Double Dragon amulet before an evil businessman beats them to it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Relive this classic episode from the VGMP vault! Featuring an appearance from recurring guest Harry McIlroy, the gang take a look at the Angelina Jolie-starring Tomb Raider movie from the early 00s. Featuring Daniel Craig, Iain Glen and Angelina's British accent, how does Tomb Raider hold up over twenty years later? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week the boys take a look at a little known Japanese movie; Last Bronx: Tokyo Bangaichi, this low budget movie is set in a dystopian future where a fascistic corporation hosts a fighting tournament. Featuring a blend of dark visuals with some goofy and over the top characters, Last Bronx wears its low budget on its sleeve, which might actually work in its favour. Hosted on Acast. Capcom finally give fans of Resident Evil what they've been waiting years for; bringing the "big four" Resident Evil protagonists together for the first time...in a throw-away CGI movie with a one-and-done villain. Huh. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
After 4 long weeks the boys finally wrap up their journey through Phantasy Star Online 2, Jamie is over the moon whilst Rory is more appreciative of the anime's attempts. With a last minute villain appearance, the final episodes of PSO2 feel like a rush to tie threads together, but will it have a satisfying result? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The boys return to the world of the blue blur this week on VGMP as they review Netflix's animated series "Sonic Prime" which sees the world's fastest hedgehog sent careening into a parallel reality where the council of Eggman's reign supreme. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
This week our journey through the Phantasy Star Online 2 anime continues as finally the story starts to take shape and we get an idea of where this show might be going. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Another classic episode from the VGMP vault, "The Last Starfighter" is directed by Nick Castle (yes, the guy who played Michael Myers in the original Halloween) and whilst ostensibly a children's movie contains some moments of true horror including melting bodies and disturbing copies. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode the boys continue their journey through the anime based on Phantasy Star Online 2. Following a rocky start to the series, will this next block of episodes be able to correct the course? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Wreck-It Ralph has often been described as Toy Story for the videogame age and that certainly seems to be an apt description when viewing this 2012 Disney movie. Featuring John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch, this takes us into the world of an arcade game villain feeling like he needs something more from his life. Whilst his fellow villains urge him to stay in his lane, Ralph finds himself breaking free of the confines of his game and role and thrust into new and unfamiliar territory. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The boys are back in Sega-land this week as they review the first few episodes of this animation based on Phantasy Star Online 2 Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
From the VGMP vault comes this classic episode from a few years ago, the first Tekken property that we reviewed on the show! This CGI animated movie is absolutely crazy, at least to someone not familiar with the popular Playstation 1v1 fighter, though if it would be any different for fans of the series, we're not so sure... After previously reviewing the Japanese take on a "Dead Rising" movie, this time the boys take a look at the first American effort. Produced for Crackle and starring Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives), Rob Riggle (Modern Family, The Office, a gazillion other comedies), Virginia Madsen (Candyman, Sideways) and Dennis Haysbert (24, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), the movie focuses on a young reporter caught in a quarantine zone after a deadly resurgence of the zombie virus. Teaming up with other survivors, he has to find a way out of the infected area before the US military decide to wipe away the problem with a tactical nuke. Hosted on Acast.
