This series was leading up to the tree day conference in Paris on the hot topics in the circus and outdoor arts sector in September 2023. (ENGLISH text below) “Hoe werkt een internationale samenwerking in de praktijk en hoe geef je deze als Nederlands productiehuis optimaal vorm? Gelden er andere regels als het gaat om publieksbenadering en marketing? Wat kunnen wij- en het Nederlandse circusveld- leren van de werkpraktijk van Jacksons Lane en producent Split Second in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en met name van de manier waarop zij hun ‘huis' toegankelijk laten zijn voor iedereen?”. 🙌🤸‍♂️ Met deze onderzoeksvragen reisde TENT,(huis voor hedendaags circus) vorig jaar af naar Noord-Londen, naar dé plek voor hedendaags circus in de UK, Jacksons Lane, in het kader van hun Fast Forward traject vanuit het Fonds Podiumkunsten. Dit traject biedt mid career-podiumkunstenaars in staat om hun vleugels internationaal uit te slaan en kennis uit te wisselen met andere professionals. In opdracht van het Fonds Podiumkunsten volgde ik, Maaike Muis, anderhalf jaar TENT tijdens deze internationale uitwisseling en maakte er drie podcastafleveringen van ongeveer 20 minuten, in het Engels. Are there different rules when it comes to audience engagement and marketing? What can we - and the Dutch circus community - learn from the working practices of Jacksons Lane and producer Split Second in the United Kingdom, particularly in the way they make their 'home' accessible to everyone?" 🙌🤸‍♂️ With these research questions, TENT (a home for contemporary circus) traveled to North London last year, to the hub for contemporary circus in the UK, Jacksons Lane, as part of their Fast Forward program funded by the Performing Arts Fund. This program enables mid-career performing artists to spread their wings internationally and exchange knowledge with other professionals. Commissioned by the Performing Arts Fund Netherlands , I, Maaike Muis, followed TENT during this international exchange for a year and a half and created three podcast episodes of approximately 20 minutes each, in English. De podcast Circus Whispers die ik maak voor TENT- House for Contemporary circus is normaal gesproken in het Engels. Speciaal voor de voorstelling MAT maakte ik een aflevering in het Nederlands als achtergrond informatie voor bezoekers van de voorstelling. Tourdata via TENT.eu Het begon met een zin: 'wat als je de vloer zou vullen met matten' en het resulteerde in de avondvullende acrobatische voorstelling MAT, over de kunst van het vallen en de schoonheid van falen. Acrobaten landen tenslotte het liefst op hun voeten, maar aan een geslaagde truc gaan vele valuren vooraf. In deze podcast neemt voormalig circusdirecteur Maaike Muis je mee achter de schermen van MAT. Aan het woord komen onder andere regisseurs Zinzi Oegema en Hanneke Meijers, en je hoort enkele acrobaten vertellen over het gezwoeg in de dikke, zachte valmatten. In de 4e aflevering vanher 4e seizoen van Circus Whispers, dé podcast over circusmakers die ik maak voor TENT - house for contemporary circus, spreek ik met If Company van Mar en Shalom en Cia insurgentes van Itzel en Michaela, twee circusduo's over hun zoektocht naar hoe ze hun culturele identiteit kunnen vertalen naar een circusvoorstelling Itzel: "Onze lichamen zijn politiek. We zien er niet Europees uit, en dat alleen al maakt een groot statement over waar we vandaan komen. Onze geschiedenis en onze wortels vormen de basis van onze diepe vriendschap en de kracht van ons samenkomen op het podium." Mar: "Ik wil geen kunst maken die alleen door één sociale klasse begrepen wordt. Ik wil iets creëren dat iedereen kan begrijpen, ongeacht hun achtergrond of opleiding.
