We begin to close in on the end of season 2. But first, Joe recounts his ski trips and Sarah updates us on her survivor re-watch progress. Then we talk about anime a little bit and how meaningful genre distinctions are in reality. Then in My Happy Marriage, Miyo gets put in the witness protection program and she must stay at the Royal Palace?? What?? That’s right, it’s two episodes of hanging out and talking. Exactly what we’ve been waiting for. We meet the ministers of the government and as expected they suck. We also get some ominous rumblings about a traitor in the government and someone needing to be sacrificed cough cough Arata… We’ll see how it goes!
We hit the halfway point this week! And speaking of hits, Joe tells us about his new car problems and Sarah remembers her car trauma. Boo cars, we don’t like.In my happy marriage, we speedrun our way through the plot. We learn some troubling news about Miyo’s new bestie that caps off in some pretty cool fighting. The illusion guy does some illusions. As one does.
Happy new year everyone! IRL we go over our holiday events and plans as we round out 2025. Here’s to another year with the ShouJoe pod!In my happy marriage, we’ve got more parents. The B plot becomes the A plot and we get a new bi-specticaled baddy. Then Milo gets a new friend and we learn that being a woman in the army isn’t so great.
This week we prep for the holidays. We go over our Christmas prep plans and dicuss a bunch of other stuff that isn’t related to that. Also video games. In My Happy Marriage, we meet the parents! It’s season 2 and Miyo has a new problematic parent to deal with, while Kiyoka has a new forest adventure. The vibes are better and we’re ready to dig in.
This week we finish My Happy Marriage Season 1. In our real lives, we adjust to getting back to weekly recordings by talking about what really matters, video games. We talk about some of the latest and somewhat off-putting game trailers from the video game awards and then we talk about what we’re currently watching and playing. We even talk a bit about anime. Imagine that!In My Happy Marriage, we finish off season 1 with two really good episodes according to one of us. This is the most split we’ve been on a show so far. Miyo gets her magical powers and confronts herself in the dream world as she tries to save Kiyoka. Then we get an OVA that we both TOTALLY watched, so don’t even worry about it. We are rolling straight into season 2, so we’ll see you next time with S2 episodes 1 and 2!
We near the end of season one this week. But first, Joe is back and talks about his time in Japan. Joe and Sarah gab about that and many more things. Lots to catch up on!In my happy marriage, we meet the other half of Miyo’s family and they are…uh…not much better! Kiyoka gets baited into a gentleman’s duel, but as we learned from the Rose of Versailles, never do those. Next time it’s the end of season 1 + the OVA
We pass the halfway point of season one. IRL Joe preps to leave on his trip to Japan (which he'll already be on when you're listening). In My Happy Marriage, we close the book on Miyo's family and open it on Kyouka's. Miyo gets some formal lady training from Kyoula's sister Hazuki and tries to move on with her live. Also evil ghosts get loose and start harassing the country side, what fun!
Content Warning for My Happy Marriage: Abuse, ViolenceWe’re back for another helping of misery. But first, we get back into the swing of things and find out that actually our lives might be boring week to week. This was way easier where we had like three weeks of things to talk about. Oh well. We do the usual talking about games and stuff. In My Happy Marrage, we finish up the family arc with the worst kidnapping scheme I’ve ever seen. Honestly, it’s like none of them have ever done this before! Miyo gets to do some arts and crafts which is fun and Kiyoka gets to have an x-men battle with a guy. So these episodes are pretty good!
Content Warning for My Happy Marriage: AbuseWe begin a new show! We catch up after a long break that we had IRL and go over the big events like weddings and going to Houston! Hurray. Then we start a brand new show, My Happy Marriage, hurray! We met Miyo and her terrible awful no-good very bad family. Miyo has basically the worst life ever. Then she suddenly gets married to a mysterious, but kinda sexy man. Who is this mystery man? Could he even be a little magical? Find out with us as we start our new show!
This week we finish off a sign of affection. But first, we catch up on our real lives and talk about lounging by the pool, anime, and vocaloids. You know, normal stuff. In A Sign of Affection we say farewell to all our friends (and Oushi). As we close the book on probably our most straightforward romance series to date. It’s a good one!Next week we’re back in the Chihayafuru mines, digging into season 3!
We arrive at our second to last Sign of Affection episode. But first, we catch up, IRL Sarah is back from her vacation and managed not to get fried! Meanwhile Joe has watched some anime and done pretty much nothing else.In a sign of affection we get into our beloved side character drama. Hey, wouldn’t it suck if you liked your friend but they were into someone else? Well imagine that happened for four different people. At least Rin is having a better time and we get to see Yuki and Itsuomi have fun couple moments. We’ll see how it all ends next week!
We jump to three episodes this week! But first, Sarah and Joe had pretty mild weeks. Not much going on it seems so we talk about a bunch of random stuff. In A Sign of Affection, Yuki and Itsuomi take the plunge! Wow! So quick! And we get what seems like an end-of-show credit sequence on episode 6, so that’s pretty weird. There is more to this show for sure, we gotta learn like backstories and stuff. But with only 5 episodes left, how much can we learn??
We’re return this week for episodes 3 and 4. But first, Sarah and Joe catch up on the trials of social drinking as not so outgoing folks. In a sign of affection we go to Costo. Yuki and Itsuomi are hitting it off pretty well even though everyone thinks he’s weird and distant. It’s actually going fine. Don’t worry about it. Oushi is worried about it, but we don’t really like him so who cares. Surely no drama will happen and everything will be straight-forward from here! As stated in the pod, next time we’ll be watching three episodes so look forward to a slightly faster pace!
This week we start a brand new show! But first, Sarah and Joe catch up on our lives. Joe has now watched both Vampire Hunter D movies while Sarah showed her mom Attack on Titan. Then we get into our new show a Sign of Affection! We meet Yuki, a college kid who starts to catch some feelings for the tall and mysterious Itsuomi. Yuki, who is deaf, must put herself out there to get his attention! And she makes tons of progress compared to our other shows. Will we see some on-screen romance? Between adults? Can this truly be???
We say au revoir to revolutionary France this week as we send off the Rose of Versailles with the 2025 movie! But first, we talk about… the omegaverse??We’re really on one today. Then we watch the movie and it’s, uh, different than the show. More musical, more tearful, more…uh….shallow. Come check it out!Next time it’s back to Chihayafuru.
We’ve done it, we’ve reached the end of The Rose of Versailles, but just the beginning of the French Revolution. It’s been a long and really great series that both of us have enjoyed watching. But like our friends Oscar and Andre, eventually all good things must come to an end. What the future holds is anyone’s guess… Except it’s not a guess for us because next week we are going to dip our toe one final time to watch the 2025 Studio MAPPA produced reboot The Rose of Versailles movie, which you can watch on Netflix. We’re going to be so back, for one final week! So join us in that, because afterwards it’s Chihayafuru Season 2.
Here we are, at the penultimate episode of our coverage of the Rose of Versailles. IRL, Joe is knee deep in Star Wars Rebels and books. Meanwhile, Sarah has been dating in Stardew Valley and IRL!In the Rose of Versailles, the Revolution is here! Fighting erupts in Paris and Oscar and Andre must decide what they’re going to do! But first, they have to get together and elope. Finally, after 36 episodes, the couple gets together! Hurray! Just in time to die! They go full defection and try to fight their way though the Paris streets.
We close in on the end. In our real lives, Joe has watched the first episode of like four anime series and isn’t that confident in how they’ll turn out. Sarah, meanwhile, continues her quest to watch all of Survivor. In the Rose of Versailles, things are kicking off. Oscar is dying and possibly turning traitor (thank god!) while Andre is trying to keep it together long enough to make it to the end of the show. At Versailles, Queen Marie is trying to tamp down dissent with force while King Louis doesn’t know what to do. The stage is set for the powder keg to blow. Only 4 episodes left!
This week, we inch our way to the end. But first, we talk about our personal lives. And we…have some trouble remembering what we did. Panic buy thing? Play games? Watch TV? Who can remember….In the Rose of Versailles, the French Guard is tasked with protecting a Spanish Duke from the wicked Saint-Just. Will they succeed? And then, Oscar and Andre almost are victims of the mob but are saved by Fersen! Right before he…exits the story? Then it’s the Estate’s General! Lots going on!
This week we’re both feeling a bit under the weather. That didn’t stop us from doing stuff like going out till 2:30 am or hosting big meetings. Nope, we still did that stuff. In the Rose of Versailles, everything changes. Oscar’s affection for Fersen boils over and she decides to change careers. This domino knocks down the next as Andre completely loses his cool and freaks out resulting in some odd scenes. Then we meet the French Guard. Tensions are high between the noble Oscar and the commoners in the guard. Will she be able to navigate this one? Will she swap loyalties? Can Oscar be saved??
