This week on Off the Record, a male school bus driver was fired after wearing a Japanese-style schoolgirl outfit on the job with a sign calling his bus route the “Lolita Line.” Ontario Premier Doug Ford called for Canada to adopt a U.S.-style “castle law” and slammed the federal bail system after an attempted carjacking at his home. Conservative MP Andrew Lawton exposed the Liberal government for adjourning the justice committee in under 30 minutes without discussing crime or bail reform. And the Canadian Taxpayers Federation revealed Calgary spent $65,000 on an art project that lets people phone the Bow River, even though the number doesn’t work. Join Kris Sims, Isaac Lamoureux, and Alex Zoltan for these stories and more on Off the Record!
This week on Off The Record, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation releases its annual report card—and most provincial finance ministers flunk.  The federal NDP hits its lowest support in years, with new polling suggesting Canada is creeping closer to a two-party nation. Meanwhile, Canada’s Chief Justice issued politically charged comments about Donald Trump, raising concerns over the neutrality of the Supreme Court. Plus, closing arguments in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial have wrapped up, with True North’s Alex Zoltan in court over the last few days sharing his expectations as the trial concludes. Join Isaac Lamoureux, Noah Jarvis, and Alex Zoltan for these stories and more on Off The Record!
This week on Off The Record, Ontario Premier Doug Ford  praised Prime Minister Mark Carney, calling him "Santa Claus" after the First Ministers’ meeting. B.C. Premier David Eby later threw cold water on Alberta’s hopes for a pipeline through B.C., shattering the consensus among premiers only a day later. Ford’s praise came despite rising U.S. tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel, which are set to hammer Ontario manufacturers. Ford’s government also faces a $14.7-billion deficit, raising questions about his fiscal credibility as a self-described conservative. In Ottawa, Carney’s government suffered its first defeat as Parliament passed a Conservative motion demanding a spring budget. The non-binding motion underscores growing opposition to Carney’s plan to add $225 billion to the federal debt over four years — even more than Trudeau was set to spend. Meanwhile, Air Canada faced backlash over promoting its first all-LGBTQ flight. The airline had to disable comments on its post after widespread criticism that identity politics are being prioritized over basic service and safety. Finally, a True North exclusive revealed that an Ontario school board trained staff that the term “family” is “harmful” and “racist.” The training sparked outrage over the spread of divisive critical race theory in Canadian schools. Join Kris Sims, Isaac Lamoureux, and Noah Jarvis for these stories and more on Off The Record!
This week on Off The Record, US President Donald Trump went on the Laura Ingraham show and said he would “rather deal with a Liberal.” Pierre Poilievre doubles down on axing the carbon tax while Mark Carney remains evasive about his own carbon tax agenda. The automaker Tesla has been barred from the Vancouver Auto Show after a rash of protests and vandalism across Canada and the United States. And NDP politicians recently enjoyed $57 sandwiches during an B.C. NDP political event. What could possibly be in them? Join guest host Kris Sims, Isaac Lamoureux, and Alex Zoltan for these stories and more on this week’s Off The Record!
Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, held a press conference at a steel mill awkwardly donning a hard hat—without any workers present. He also took no questions from reporters, quickly leaving the scene. It's a common occurrence for Carney, who has not allowed independent media at his events, with True North being barred from several. Meanwhile, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre held a press conference where he scrutinized Carney’s record, highlighting past controversies and misleading statements. Poilievre accused Carney of "selling out Canada." Amid the ongoing tariff dispute, provincial premiers have taken the lead in the absence of the federal government. Ontario Premier Doug Ford initially clashed with U.S. President Donald Trump over electricity tariffs but later backed down. At UBC Okanagan, the student union denied the formation of a Conservative club, despite allowing a Liberal Party of Canada club to exist. The union cited concerns that Conservative views on the Black and LGBTQ communities made students feel "excluded or unwelcome" but failed to provide specific examples. All this and more on Off the Record with Cosmin Dzsurdzsa, Noah Jarvis, and Isaac Lamoureux!
The Tariff War Begins

The Tariff War Begins

2025-03-0749:07

Retaliatory tariffs imposed by Canada on the U.S. might cause more economic damage to Canadians than Americans. The trade war has also evolved into a war of words as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called U.S. President Donald Trump’s tactics a “very dumb thing to do.” The Liberal Party of Canada’s leadership election will end on Sunday Mar. 9 and Mark Carney is the expected winner. His victory will also make him the next prime minister of Canada. And the Trudeau carbon tax will be hiked by 20 per cent on Apr. 1. Backbench MPs will also get around a $6,000 raise and the prime minister will get an approximately $16,000 raise on Apr. 1 as well. It seems this year the only April fools will be Canadians taxpayers footing the bill. These stories and more on Off the Record with guest host Kris Sims, Noah Jarvis, and Isaac Lamoureux!
Mark Carney has all but abandoned a significant pillar of carbon pricing in his bid to become the next leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, but Carney also once tried to convince the world to adopt carbon taxes. How does he really feel about this unpopular tax? Plus, as the DOGE reveals some of the most outrageous examples of government waste, Canadians are starting to wonder where exactly are our taxpayer dollars are going. And a surge in Canadian pride is taking place across the country due to the threat of U.S. tariffs. These stories and more on Off the Record with Kris Sims, Isaac Lamoureux and Cosmin Dzsurdzsa!
Is he going to prop up the government again in order to “support workers?” Or is he going to force an election in the spring? It’s becoming increasingly unclear what NDP leader Jagmeet Singh wants. Could Singh’s theatrics have anything to do with his gold-plated pension? Plus, after months of politicians telling Canadians of alleged traitors in Parliament, the foreign interference inquiry released its long-awaited final report, concluding there was no evidence that anybody “acted in bad faith.” What is happening? And Ontario residents will head to the polls in February, but why did Doug Ford call an early election? Despite already having a majority, Ford claims he needs a “stronger mandate” to fight U.S. tariffs. Tune into Off the Record with Rachel Parker, Isaac Lamoureux and Cosmin Dzsurdzsa!
President Trump doubled down on his criticism of Canada this week, arguing that the U.S. doesn’t need Canadian oil, auto or lumber. He said if Canada becomes the 51st state, it wouldn’t face tariffs. Does the U.S. need Canada? Plus, Pierre Poilievre weighed in on the gender debate and says there’s only two genders. Meanwhile, Jagmeet Singh wants Canada to provide refuge for trans individuals from the U.S. And Steven Guilbeault has endorsed Mark Carney for Liberal leader and seems to be backing down on the carbon tax after years of defending the tax a the only viable climate plan. These stories and more on Off the Record with Isaac Lamoureux, Cosmin Dzsurdzsa and Rachel Parker!
It’s only a matter of days before President Donald Trump is inaugurated and the threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian products is becoming more real. Meanwhile, the Trudeau government is in the midst of a leadership change and Alberta isn’t buying into Prime Minister Trudeau’s “Team Canada approach.” Does Canada even have a plan? How will we respond? Plus, former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney threw his hat in the ring to replace Trudeau as Liberal leader. This is the same guy who told a crowd at the World Economic Forum that he identifies as a European. And Conservative Party of British Columbia Leader John Rustad announced his party has discovered alleged voting irregularities in one of the 2024 provincial election’s closest ridings – Surrey-Guildford. The BC NDP won the riding by a margin of just 22 votes after a judicial recount. These stories and more on Off the Record with Isaac Lamoureux, Cosmin Dzsurdzsa and Noah Jarvis!
Canadians entered 2025 with the breaking news of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's plans to resign, sparking widespread reactions from politicians across the political spectrum. As Trudeau prepares to step down, the Liberal Party of Canada is gearing up for a leadership race to choose his successor. Donald Trump's threats to annex Canada and impose looming 25% tariffs dominated headlines, raising concerns as the country faces a leadership vacuum and lacks a voice at the negotiating table. In other news, Ottawa has unveiled a new plan to combat climate change: banning vehicle idling year-round, with significant fines for offenders. Tune in to Off the Record with guest host Kris Sims, alongside Isaac Lamoureux and Cosmin Dzsurdzsa.
A number of politicians in Canada likely got a lump of coal for Christmas this year. From Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek’s various scandals to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau doubling down on the carbon tax, 2024 had no shortage of naughty politicians. But it wasn’t all bad news in 2024 as the rise of the conservative movement was seen in provinces across the country. Tune into Off the Record, guest host Kris Sims, Noah Jarvis and William McBeath.
Canadians are witnessing the fall of Justin Trudeau as even his own MPs are starting to call for his resignation. To make matters worse for Trudeau, latest polling shows an overwhelming majority of Canadians want an election now. Luckily for Trudeau, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh seems to really want his pension. Despite constantly complaining about Trudeau, Singh continues to prop up the government. Of course, to nobody’s surprise, Singh says he will trigger an election in the new year – after he qualifies for his taxpayer-funded pension. Plus, President-elect Trump continues to troll Canada about becoming the “51st state” and some Canadians just can’t seem to take a joke. These stories and more on Off the Record with guest host Kris Sims, William McBeath and Noah Jarvis!
It’s been a heck of a week for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. First he mocked critics of the carbon tax by claiming only those with mansions and indoor swimming pools feel the effects of the punitive tax. Then he insulted President-elect Donald Trump amid tense trade relations between Canada and the U.S. by strutting his self-proclaimed feminism. Plus, taxpayers are funding the tab for a federal department’s real estate portfolio to the tune of $186 million over the past decade. And Trudeau’s desperate attempt to bounce back in the polls is falling flat with Canadians, with many believing the government’s “tax holiday” and $250 rebate won’t help with the sky-high cost of living and will just add to the federal deficit. Tune into Off the Record with guest host Kris Sims, Noah Jarvis and Isaac Lamoureux!
A True North exclusive revealed that a survey, organized by “anti-hate” researchers at Ontario Tech University, was sent to all Canadian soldiers asking them if they have purchased extremist merchandise such as a ‘Make Canada Great Again’ hat, all in an effort to root out extremists inside the Armed Forces. Should this really be a priority for our military? Is it any wonder there’s a recruitment crisis? Plus, amid dozens of Christian churches in Canada being burned down in recent months, politicians across Canada are finally standing up for Christians. And after a human rights commission fined a rural township for “discrimination” after voting not to recognize June as Pride Month, its mayor is refusing to capitulate to the sanction he called an act of “extortion.” These stories and more on Off the Record with Harrison Faulkner, Isaac Lamoureux and Cosmin Dzsurdzsa.
U.S. President-elect Trump’s pledge to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Canada and Mexico has many Canadians on edge. While many want the Trudeau government to address Trump’s concerns, mainly as it relates to our immigration system, one thing is abundantly clear – this is all Justin Trudeau’s fault. Plus, despite concerns from economists and business groups, the Trudeau government is moving forward with its emissions cap on the oil and gas sector. In response, Alberta has invoked the Sovereignty Act. What will happen next? Can’t afford your groceries or heat your home? According to the feds, it’s not because of the country’s lagging economy, but rather a lack of vibes – or as Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland put it –a “vibecession.” Tune into Off the Record with Rachel Parker, Isaac Lamoureux and William McBeath!
The Liberals have unveiled a two-month GST/HST tax break and a $250 working Canadians payment. Is Justin Trudeau trying to bribe Canadians amid his lagging poll numbers? Wouldn’t it just have been easier to scrap the carbon tax instead? Plus, while at another international junket, Trudeau lectured Canadians about prioritizing paying the carbon tax over feeding your kids. How out of touch is this guy? And the re-elected NDP government in BC unveiled its cabinet earlier this week, showing BC residents that they can expect more of the same radical leftist ideas that have plagued the province for the last few years. These stories and more on Off the Record with guest host Kris Sims, Cosmin Dzsurdzsa and Noah Jarvis!
Hold on to your wallet, folks – Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault is at COP29 and has proposed yet another carbon tax. Guilbeault said the Canadian government is “very supportive” of the concept of creating a new levy on emissions caused by maritime transportation. Here we go again… Plus, the DOGE is coming! President-Elect Trump and X owner Elon Musk have unveiled more details about the Department of Government Efficiency. How will this all work out? And mama mia! A teacher’s union in Ontario is calling for the resignation of a group of four trustees after they spent $50,000 in travel expenses on a trip to Italy over the summer to procure artwork for St. Padre Pio Secondary School in Brantford. These stories and more on Off the Record with guest host Kris Sims, Isaac Lamoureux and William McBeath!
Donald J. Trump was elected as the 47th US President – and the leftist activists in the media and in politics became unhinged. From a CBC panelist accusing Trump of using “Hitler’s playbook” to Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland reassuring Canadians that “Canada will be absolutely fine,” the left just can’t handle Trump winning again. Plus, Indian unrest is spreading onto the streets - and not just the streets of Mumbai or Delhi. Canadians just need to travel to Brampton and Surrey to see Hindu and Sikh activists battle it out over a foreign conflict. And Ryerson University (or TMU) backtracks on its racist DEI policy for its medical school after prioritizing only “racialized” or “equity-deserving” applicants. These stories and more with Harrison Faulkner, Cosmin Dzsurdzsa and Isaac Lamoureux!
Despite pulling out of the coalition agreement between the Liberals and the NDP, Jagmeet Singh says he will continue to prop up the government and will not trigger an early election. What is he so afraid of? It’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s not only the Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois that want an election, Canadians do too. Plus, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation revealed that dozens of federal departments have launched podcasts at the expense of taxpayers. Once salary expenses are factored in, these podcasts that nobody listens to have cost taxpayers millions of dollars. And Joe Biden called Trump supporters “garbage.” Did Biden just help seal a win for the Republicans? We make our predictions for the US election!
