What story do you believe about yourself? About God and who He is? About the world around you?One of the reasons Jesus came was to tell us a different story. To invite us to live into and live out the truest story every told.
Jesus reveals an important revelation to us in the story of the Good Samaritan. The question isn’t: who is my neighbor? The question is: am I being a neighbor? And asking the right question makes all the difference.
We have been given authority by Jesus to advance and establish His Kingdom on the earth. But if our life is a letter being written, it doesn’t start with authority. It starts with our identity.Check out this teaching, from our new series “Founded On.”
Activity isn’t bad. It’s just not the starting place with Jesus.Check out this teaching on having the right foundation for our life, from our new series “Founded On.”
The greatest command was to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength, AND to love our neighbors as ourselves. But often we find ourselves, not loving our neighbors, but using them as measuring sticks for our own righteousness. So, how do we keep from giving into that trap?Check out this teaching from Shiloh Methodist Church!
How much do we miss in the present, because we’re constantly chasing the future?Check out this teaching on being weighed down by tomorrow.
“I’ll take Jesus seriously when I finally settle down in life.”Have you ever said that before? What would cause us to wait to take Jesus seriously? To follow Him on the narrow road?Maybe it’s because we’ve missed where the narrow road leads.Jesus said it would lead to life, real and genuine. And if that’s true, then why wait?
Who does the Kingdom of God belong to?Jesus’ answer might surprise you.Check out this teaching on who God’s Kingdom belongs to, and what that means for us today.
We all exist in tension. From deep encounters with Jesus to deep frustrations in life. From taking one step forward to taking another step back. But the issue isn’t that we experience those tensions in life. The issue is that we stay stuck there. Never actually moving forward in our journey with Jesus.Check out this teaching on how to not stay stuck in the tension and surrender to the process of being formed by Jesus each day.
In the most painful moment, what came out of Jesus was Scripture. He was so steeped in the Word, that it permeated His every thought. And He sets the example for us for how we are called to steep ourselves in Scripture. To hide the Word in our hearts. And a powerful way to do that is through memorizing it.Check out this teaching on the power of memorizing Scripture, from our series “Bread and Breath: The Practice of Scripture.”
Studying the Bible isn’t just for pastors. It’s for everyone who follow Jesus.Studying helping us dig deeper into the Bible and go beyond our assumptions about the Bible.Check out this teaching on the importance of studying the Bible, from our series “Bread and Breath: The Practice of Scripture.”
The Bible wasn’t designed to be read quickly like a breaking news snippet. It was designed to be chewed on.To be read slowly, prayerfully, and intentionally. The question is: how do we slow down to read the Bible in a way to meditate on its words?Check out this teaching from our series “Bread and Breath: The Practice of Scripture.”
We don’t just read the Bible for information. We read the Bible for formation. To be with Jesus and to be formed more fully into His image.Check out this teaching on reading the Bible, from our series “Bread and Breath: The Practice of Scripture.”
Many of us know we need to read the Bible. But, we might not know why we need to read it.Or, we don’t understand it when we read it.We’re beginning a journey together to better understand what the Bible is and how God intended us to engage with it as His people.Check out this introductory teaching from our series “Bread and Breath: The Practice of Scripture.”
Are you only okay when forgiveness applies to you and those you consider neighbors?Or, are you okay when God’s mercy and grace extends to those you consider enemies?
A sad reality in the story of Jonah is this: you can do what God has called you to do, but you can miss the whole point. You can say the right things, but not have the right heart.Check out Part 3 of our series on The Book of Jonah.
How does God respond to Jonah’s disobedience? It would seem with punishment, as a huge fish swallows him whole. But, what if the whale wasn’t punishment? What if the whale was provision?Check out this teaching from our Summer Reading series through The Book of Jonah.
God is our Father. And we are His children. That simple truth changes everything.Check out this teaching from Kelby Wardlow on the beauty of the Father’s love.
Most of us have heard the story of Jonah and the Whale.Which means most of us skim the surface when reading it.We’re taking some time this summer to dig deeper into the story of Jonah, to see how it applies to our lives today. In Part 1, we explore the reason Jonah ran from God’s call to go to Nineveh. Which helps us see how we’re not that different from Jonah.Because we all have a Nineveh in our lives.A place or a person that’s too far outside of God’s word and ways, so we assume they are outside of God’s mercy. But the story of Jonah lets us know: Just because you’re outside of God’s word and God’s ways, doesn’t mean your outside of His ability to heal and forgive and restore.
It takes a child 10-20 times of trying a new food before they know if they like it or not.Which means just because something tastes bad at first bite, doesn’t mean it’s not good.So often in the journey following Jesus, we will be introduced to things that don’t taste good at first bite. And we can be tempted to stay away from what tastes “bad” and only eat what tastes “good.”But just because something doesn’t taste good at first bite, doesn’t mean it’s not good for us.And Jesus knows what is good.He knows what is good for us and what will grow us up to be healthy and mature. So, we have to trust Him on the journey. We have to believe that He knows what is good better than we do.And we have to be willing to trust that just because something tastes bad at first bite, doesn’t mean it’s not good for us.
