On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to break down the Panthers 2-1 OT win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Florida scored two power play goals in the third and OT, but if it weren't for the heroics of Sergei Bobrovsky, they would not have been in position to win. After Florida tied it at one, they took full control and flipped the possession. Blue Jackets are on the playoff bubble and were playing for the point in regulation, but after a breakaway from Matthew Tkachuk, it drew a tripping call which eventually led to the winner by Sam Reinhart. Reinhart was back in the lineup after missing Tueaday's win against Detroit, as the Panthers were without Anton Lundell and Carter Verhaeghe. There was a Panthers Debut in Cole Reinhardt and an NHL Debut, where D Mike Benning got the secondary assist in overtime. Trusted to take a roll on the power play after his experience in the NCAA and in Charlotte, Florida threw Benning into the wolves and got involved on the game winner. Florida now has won three in a row after the trade deadline as the group is playing loose. The guys give their three stars of the game, when they knew the game was won, and discuss whether the streak can continue as they begin their road trip on Sunday night in Seattle. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian, Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down the Panthers' 4-3 comeback win over the Detroit Red Wings as the Panthers scored twice in the final 1:30, both by Carter Verhaeghe as he scored the go-ahead goal with 14.1 seconds left. Panthers trailed after taking the first lead, but their bottom six got a good amount of minutes, including time on the penalty kill as they were without Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart. Vinnie Hinostroza played in his first game in stint number two for Florida, and his line was impactful, as they were on the cie for two goals, including the tying goal in the third period. Despite Detroit taking the lead not even two minutes later, the Panthers kept pushing as they had the ice tilted their way, and it was only a matter of time until they tied the game when the stars of Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk took over. Daniil Tarasov with a strong game in net as he was able to track pucks well. The guys give their three stars of the game, when they knew the game was lost, and their thoughts on Aleksander Barkov actually participating with the full group for the first time as opposed to solo skates, and provide updates on Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss now that the NHL trade deadline has passed, work can be done regarding their intention on trying to keep some of their pending UFA's). There is word on a possible extension that could be announced sometime this week for one of them. Bobrovsky has been outstanding in his last two games. We saw a sense of relief in the Panthers play on Friday night in Detroit to end their four-game road trip as they defeated Detroit 3-1. Matthew Tkachuk with his first hat trick in over two seasons, and the Panthers were able to get a quick lead in the third and shut it down from there. Sandis Vilmanis has carried his great play in his first game back in Charlotte after being sent down, that's a building block in which the Panthers need to be patient with as he is going to be part of a playoff run of his own later this season. The very thing that was keeping the Panthers in the playoff race in December and January could end up being the thing that actually hurts them from finishing in the Top-10 best lottery odds for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, regulation wins. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here with Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) for another edition of Fairbanks Friday. The two broke down the Panthers 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where the lineup was already thin due to roster management purposes with Jeff Petry getting traded earlier in the day to Minnesota, AJ Greer being a scratch, and Daniil Tarasov getting the start in Columbus when in normal circumstances, it would be Bobrovsky. Panthers had better jump on Thursday, but it was a bunch of difficulty getting to the middle of the ice as the Blue Jackets did a great job getting into the lanes defensively. Columbus converted with deflected and getting to the net front while they forced the Panthers to turn the puck over in their zone. Florida make a push after being down 3-0 with goals from Niko Mikkola and Sam Bennett on the power play, and for a split second, looked to have tied it at three. However, Jesper Boqvist was called for goaltender interference as he was in the crease, but Ivan Proverov did not allow Boqvist an opportunity to leave, so Florida could not complete the comeback as Columbus added an empty netter at the end. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) and Jacob Winans(@JakeW_8) broke down the Panthers 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. The Panthers had an opportunity to take control of the game in the second period after New Jersey lost their composure in the first period, but a sloppy play that ended up in a short handed breakaway opportunity where the Cats negated their own power play by committing a penalty of their own. New Jersey would score a four-on-four goal after that and the Panthers could not gain any momentum after that, trying line changes to the forwards and even switching up the bottom two defensive pairs. Paul Maurice let his frustration known during the first period during an interview where both teams were careless with the puck, but New Jersey was the team who was able to clean it up while Florida failed to do so, as the first saw a lot of two-on-one opportunities where Sergei Bobrovsky was not the issue for the Panthers. Being down by two in the third, it was the Devils who still controlled play as they were connecting out of their own end and the Panthers were unable to get their forecheck and cycle game going. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) was joined by Nich Fairbanks(@Prudentia0) to break down the Panthers 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Florida took full control of the first period where it looked similar to game seven vs. Toronto back in 2025, where the puck was consistently in the Leafs end, and Florida was able to pounce with three goals, them coming in all situations. Even Rodrigues led the way with nine shots in the game, and seven of them coming in the first period. Toronto then had the territorial advantage after the first period, and that's when Sergei Bobrovsky got to work, where he was able to track pucks well from all over the ice. Florida's defense gave very few high danger opportunities, and Bobrovsky was able to clean them up with the lack of rebound chances for Toronto. It's one win out of the Olympic break, and the Panthers have no room for error and getting healthier, can they keep this up as they are right back at it on Friday? On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@FLACatsHistory) to break down USA's 2-1 win over Canada in 3-on-3 OT by Florida Native Jack Hughes. where the US in their third straight knockout game were able to take the first lead of the game. The US were in control of the first period, but had a hard time hitting the net, but found a way to score on their first shot of the game by Matt Boldy. The American's all game have been able to collapse around the net preventing second and third chance opportunities on Connor Hellebuyck, and helped when Canada controlled play in the second and third period. Hellebuyck, who has struggled in the Stanley Cup Playoffs made incredible stops, including one with his stick in the third period on Devon Toews to keep it at a 1-1 game at the time, and also stopped two breakaway opportunities on Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini. The Penalty kill was on point once again as they remained perfect, and there was a possibility for it to swing with going down 5-on-3 to Canada, but also had theirs with Panthers Sam Bennett hit Jack Hughes with a high stick in the third period (later negated by a high Stick from Hughes). Hughes then got redemption with getting an overtime winner of his own after his brother Quinn scored an overtime winner back in the Quarterfinals against Sweden. Florida Panthers History was made as Matthew Tkachuk became the first to win a Gold Medal in the same year in which he played for the Florida Panthers. Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett joined Olli Jokinen as players to earn silver while playing for the Panthers, and the three Panther Finns joined a long list of players to win Bronze. Tuomo Ruutu (Finland), Teddy Richards (USA) and Bill Zito (USA) also were part of medal teams despite the medals only going to the players, but more victories to their hockey resumes. Team USA will be flying into Miami on Monday after their Gold Medal victory, so a chance for Matthew Tkachuk to have a similar celebration as when he did in his back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships. Could this experience for the 10 Panthers be a great recruiting tool to bring more players into the mix in the coming years?
