Being a student of the sport requires a lot of studying. Don't let that deter you from doing the work! Alyssa has some great ways to be a student of the sport! When you want to be the best you can possibly be, you take notes, you regroup, you relearn, etc. One of the most important take-aways from this episode is to embrace your struggles and find ways to make them better, don't dwell on them.

Coach A shares how she went from coaching basketball to falling in love with the sport of wrestling and coaching wrestling. Her leap of faith to fill a need in the community is so inspiring! Her ability to connect with her athletes, putting her pride aside and being able to put herself in their shoes by learning the technique with them is incredible! I love the title of Episode #9 because it truly describes how Coach Jess approaches experiences and opportunities in her life. Make It Your Own (you fill in the blank). Make it your own college career, Make it your own coaching philosophy, Make it your own competitive edge after college. There is no one way fits all and I love that Coach Jess shared so many of the different parts of her life with us! Coach Jess shares how she has continued to make her athletic journey her own. Even when coaches didn’t believe in her because she was a girl, she used every opportunity to show them that it didn’t matter what they thought.
Have Confidence In The Work You Have Put In!Have you ever struggled with feeling like you aren't enough? I think most of us can relate at some point in our life. E&H freshman Natalia Sanchez opens up about how she struggled with feeling like she was enough to wrestle in college. Natalia shares how she keeps that doubt at bay and how she is using that to fuel her thoughts and goals about next year's wrestling season. It takes so much courage to be vulnerable and I applaud and thank Natalia for opening up on this episode!Huge shout out to my brother Geddy for creating the music that is now part of my podcast!! It was a super fun interview with Coach Mark Beckwith. He talks about the differences between coaching men & women. He also shares some great questions and observations to make when you go on your college visits.

She shares how important is was/still is to ask for help, how she keeps an open line of communication, and how her refereeing career is going so far. So grateful for all the referees out there dealing with all of us crazy wrestlers and coaches. Thank you to Ella for sharing her journey not only as a wrestler but now as a referee too!
Interview with Presbyterian College Women’s Head Coach Brian Vutianitis. Coach V shares about how he got into wrestling and how his own wrestling journey shaped his coaching philosophy. Coach V talks about the building blocks for the women’s team culture at Presbyterian College. It takes GRIT to be on the Presbyterian College Women’s Wrestling Team. Coach V talks about how having “buy in” creates a positive team atmosphere and a higher standard that the team wants to achieve together.
I had such a fun conversation with Emory & Henry freshman Molly Keller. She shared her insights on how she decided on Emory & Henry college and some tools that helped her narrow down her college search. She was also introduced to lifting weights through wrestling and has fallen in love with building muscle, so much so that she decided to go up a couple weight classes when she got to college. Not an easy decision to make.She mentioned her brother Marshall a few times as well. As someone who has 5 brothers, I loved hearing her talk about how her brother was such a great influence and supporter in her wrestling journey. This leads into my episode shoutout. Shout out to all the siblings who are such a positive and supportive influence. Whether you are younger or older, being someone’s sibling is not always an easy task. Please know that your siblings thank you and appreciate you for all the times you have helped them succeed.As always, thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy!
