Today we do a little research on the Crucifixion. We also find out why we call such a somber day "Good Friday" Then we read from the Gospel of Luke about his version of events and that first Good Friday which we think was April 3rd 33AD.
Today we go back to Matthew Chapter 12 and talk about the religious leaders of Jesus's time as they ask him to show them a sign from him. He tells them the only sign they will get is from him coming back after spending three days inside the earth. We know what this means but they did not. He also goes on to tell the people that his Brothers, Sisters and Mother are any of us that do the will of his father in heaven.
Today we read from Matthew 27 about the final moments of Jesus Life as he hung on the cross. Being Mocked, Spit on, laughed at and how just before he died he cried out from Psalm 22. Was he confirming who he was by the fulfillment of that scripture or was he crying out for his Father who had to turn away from him in his final moments because of ALL the Sin he was carrying ? Sin not committed by him but by US!
Today we read from Matthew Chapter 12 about the logic of the Pharisees that Jesus was casting out demons under the power of the Devil. Jesus lets them know how wrong they are and how they are speaking against the Holy Spirit which is a sin that will not be forgiven.
After Michael got the very Unwelcome Matt put our for him at Church this week, it seemed like the perfect time to do a Podcast and being kind to strangers, people at work, Church, or our community. We go over old and New Testament scripture where we are told by both God and Jesus to be kind to strangers.
Today We read from Matthew Chapter 7 and talk about a small part of the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus tells us to Ask, Seek, Knock. It is one of the most parental loving things written about God in the entire Bible and is told to us by Jesus himself.
Today we kick off the season of Lent with one of the Biggest "Bad Guys" in History, Pontius Pilate. But did he know who Jesus was? Did he think Jesus was the Messiah? Why did he try so hard to releases him?
Today we talk about a reading from the book of Sirach which is not in all bibles, but is found in Catholic and Orthodox Bibles. Where it talks about the amazing amount of free will given to us by God to choose Life and Death. Then we get in to a teaching of Jesus where we are taught that the old law still stands and Jesus instructs us to live to an even higher standard than the old teachings.
Today we talk a little bit about St. Valentine and then go over many of the examples of the Complete, Whole, Undeserving love we receive from God. In particular 1st John Chapter 4
Today we read from Matthew Chapter 6 1-18 and discuss the season of Lent. The 40 days, why it Easter Floats around, Why we give things up for lent, or ideas of things to do during lent that will bring you closer to God.
Charged by the Holy Spirit we have a quick reading from James Chapter 1 then we go back to John Chapter 10 and talk about Jesus being the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep.
Today we bounce around the Bible with examples of people who did the right thing even when it could cost them dearly, also the flip side when people in the Bible did the wrong thing because it was much easier to do.
Today we talk about the story from Genesis Chapter 19 of the of Sodom and Gommorrah. The only righteous people in town are allowed to leave before God destroys it and one of them is lost when she looks back while they are fleeing. many teachable lessons in this story that we talk about.
Today we go over a reading from the Book of Isaiah that Jesus fulfills and talks about in the New Testament Book of Matthew.
Today we read from Mark Chapter 10 where he tells the story of James and John asking Jesus if he will allow them to sit at his right and left hands when he comes in to his glory. This creates anger from the other disciples and shows how all of them despite being with Jesus day and night were not grasping the Big Picture. It also shows how the disciples and us often look for the glory and recognition rather than the humility of serving others for no recognition.
Today we go over the teachings in John Chapter 6 where Jesus tries to explain to the crowd he is the "Bread of Life". Then he loses many followers by telling the people they need to eat of his flesh and drink of his blood to have eternal life.
Today we talk about Pre Selection and how ALL that have been saved and will be saved were pre determined before the beginning of time. Is this Fair? What does this mean? Why do we still go out and Evangelize ? How do you save yourself? We ill hit multiple Bibe Verses that discuss all of this.
Today we read about a Servant in ancient scripture and discuss who we think it is. Who others think it is and how the teachings of this servant can effect how we treat others and how we find comfort after we feel mistreated.
How many times have you heard "Why do Bad things happen to Good People?" Today we read from Romans 5:3 about Rejoicing in our suffering. We also hear a bunch of other Bible verses that remind us WE WILL ALL SUFFER! We Will All have tribulation and what we do with it is very important.
Have you ever felt intimidated or embarrassed at the amount of money you put in the collection plate at church? Today we hear from the words of Jesus in Mark Chapter 12 where he talks about a widow that only puts a couple of cents in the collection plate.
