HHS Finds Systemic Disregard for Sanctity of Life in Organ Transplant SystemFull Press Release: https://www.hhs.gov/press-room/hrsa-to-reform-organ-transplant-system.htmlTo change your organ donor status in California, follow these steps:Visit the Donate Life California Website: Go to register.donatelifecalifornia.org to access the state’s organ and tissue donor registry. You can update your status (add, modify, or remove yourself) online by logging in or creating an account with your name, date of birth, and driver’s license or ID number.Visit a DMV Office: If you prefer to update your status in person or need to remove the pink dot from your driver’s license or ID, visit a California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office. Request a duplicate license or ID and indicate that you want to remove or change your donor status. Write “REMOVE” on the application if you wish to opt out. There may be a fee for a duplicate license.Send a Certified Letter (Optional): If you cannot visit the DMV, you can send a certified letter to the California DMV clearly stating your wish to remove your name from the donor registry. No explanation is required. Follow up to ensure your license is updated without the pink dot.Update Your Advance Health Care Directive: To ensure your wishes are clear, document your decision in an advance health care directive and share it with your family and healthcare providers. This step reinforces your choice, especially if you opt out of donation.Inform Your Family: Whether you choose to remain a donor or opt out, inform your family of your decision. While your choice is legally binding if registered, communicating it helps avoid confusion.Note: If you only update your status online, the pink dot on your driver’s license won’t change until you renew or replace it. Some X posts suggest difficulty removing donor status online, so visiting the DMV or contacting Donate Life California directly may be more reliable if issues arise. For further assistance, contact Donate Life California at their website or the DMV at www.dmv.ca.gov.Always verify your status after making changes to ensure your wishes are accurately recorded. Please support the independent journalism of Rooted Wings so we can keep building and bringing you what you need to know in culture, politics, health & faith. In this eye-opening conversation, Britt sits down with California cowgirl, Alli Fender to discuss the challenges faced by California ranchers, including regulatory pressures, those doomsday warnings of methane emissions, water restrictions, and economic impacts... and how this all impacts you and the meat on your table. They explore sustainable ranching practices, consumer concerns about beef safety (is our beef injected with the new technology?), and the threat of screw worms. The discussion emphasizes the importance of supporting local ranchers and understanding the rich heritage of ranching in California.More about Alli and Flying F Ranch: Allison (Alli) Fender grew up in the gorgeous San Diego backcountry on a small Dairy and Beef operation. She attended San Diego Mesa College and played soccer on the women’s team while attending the Animal Health program offered there. In 2014, she obtained her Associate of Science Degree in Animal Health Technology and became licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She worked in several small animal hospitals in the area.A month after graduation in 2014, she and her high school sweetheart were married on Mesa Chiquita Ranch, where she grew up. Her dad gifted her and her husband, Bryce, ten bred heifers, which was the start of their beef herd.Flying F Ranch was established in 2020 after Bryce and Alli created the brand and business selling beef directly to San Diego consumers. Their motto is “We Give a Flying F About BEEF.”In 2021, they added Registered Black Angus cattle into their herd to improve carcass quality. The couple learned more about genetics and began breeding more mindfully, propelling their beef business to a higher level. The couple currently sells Black Angus Beef direct to consumer as whole/half shares and USDA retail at local farmer’s markets. They recently started offering ranch to table experiences for San Diego locals to come enjoy a 5 course beef inspired meal curated by a local chef. They bring in local wineries and breweries to pair with the menu. The dinners are on open pastures on the ranch with cattle grazing nearby. Bryce and Alli raise their three children on the ranch together. They believe raising the next generation beside them will teach them valuable life lessons and memories.Follow here:Website: flyingfranch.orgInstagram: @flying_f_ranch (business), @alli.fender (personal)Facebook: Flying F Ranch https://calcattlemen.org/Beef direct-to-consumer: https://www.calbeef.org/resources/california-local-beef-directory/Please support the independent journalism of Rooted Wings so we can keep building and bringing you what you need to know in culture, politics, health & faith.
