Kicking off spooky season with a literary classic that shaped the gothic horror genre. There's so much rain and we try to add our own unique thoughts to a book that has already been over analysed for years. Expect, some wanking chat, us attempting to make everyone gay and as always Stars in their Eyes references. Happy Reading! Liv x
We're back!!! Apologies for our longer than planned break (and the likely terrible edit to explain why in this episode...) but we are back and raring to go! This week, we accidentally read literary fiction and...enjoyed it!? It's time for another "TikTok Sensation" but this time expect less dragons, spice and shadow daddies and a lot more terrifying existential-crisis inducing questions. Enjoy! Amy x
The author of the Air Awakens series and the Married to Magic series, comes the first in a suspected trilogy, maybe a duology about Tarot Card magic in an academy setting, with a fake engagement, a missing sister, an evil king, an evil brother, a heist and a bunch of other tropes along with some one dimensional side characters lumped in to make this 600 page book feel like an epic. Sorry guys, not the one for us this week - maybe it's time for us to lay off Romantasy for a while ey?
Don't listen to this one if you're eating! This week we sink our teeth into (heh) a dystopian nightmare where canibalism is not only legal but industrialised. There are so many trigger warnings for this one so please take a listen to these before diving into the discussion. We're back in the bosom of romantasy next week so if this isn't your bag, join us for that instead! x
This week, we're completing our thoughts on Holly Black's Stolen Heir duology and boy are we glad to see the back of it!You will hear some pretty tough comparisons about the writing, genuine anger at plotholes and true despair at the unmaking (heh) of OG plots. I think you can actually hear Liv's depression consume her at one point in the episode. And alas, there is more hoof chat. Next week is more fun, Tender is the Flesh by Augustina Bazterrica!
Remember last summer when we recorded a 2 parter about The Folk of the Air Series? Well good because this week, we're back in Elfhame and to celebrate, we've treated you to another double bill! In this first part, we chat for far too long about Oak's hooves and the possible wider implications these may have... clip clop, clip clop!
Join us this week for our first ever THROWBACK episode. Reading a book we both loved from the early 00s and hoping we still love it. *Spoiler Alert* It's as ugly as it's name and we're ashamed of our 13/14 year old selves for championing it so utterly. Young Liv and Amy have a lot to answer for...
Oh boy we LOVED this one! Join as we discuss our unhinged theories and ultimately gush over how much we enjoyed this book. We delve back into crime this week and it doesn't disappoint unlike another book we won't mention... cough.. With a Vengeance...cough... enjoy!
Is anyone there? Hello? Are we reading the same thing? Does anyone understand? This week we struggle through trying to sound like we know what we're talking about as we discuss time travel, inevitable love stories and pornographic feelings without a single genital touch. This is indeed, how we lose the podcast war... probably.
This week we read a contemporary romance and we....enjoyed it?! That's right, join us as we move out from the rocks we have been living under and devle into the hugely popular Boys of Tommen Book 1!
What do you do when an author has convinced you that this book isn't a who-dunnit but in fact a who-didn't-actually-do-it? This week, Liv gets very angry at plot points that make no sense, Amy guffaws at the availability of special effects knowledge of the 1950s and once again we learn our lesson on letting Amy pick books. Enjoy! Cos we certainly didn't.
Another day, another sapphic vampire romp being read by the Page Turners girlies. We have been waiting to chat about this one but did it live up to our lofty expectations? We cover women's rights (and wrongs), dodgy Scottish internal monologues and 1... 2... 3.... very unreliable narrators!
They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom! Mel Gibson and his questionable character aside - this week we're donning our tartan and painting our faces with the saltire. We discuss how refreshing it is to not have to lean on trope talk, Scottish independence and frankly a pretty mean review! RM Brown - congrats, you've written a patriotic romp that even our resident Sassenach can get behind!
We're baaaack! After a slightly longer than planned hiatus, we're back in your ears this week to discuss one of our most anticipated reads of 2025. Thanks for sticking with us and welcome to Season 4! xx
Who'd have thought a 600+ page series taking inspiration from Criminal Minds with a badass FMC serial killer would be right up our street? Well yeah, probably us too. Massive TWs for this episode - be careful!Join us for our last episode of Season 3 where we'll discuss whether characters are made to do bad things to make their partners look less bad in the grand scheme of things and we talk about how long it would really take you to be a black belt in martial arts, no specific ones, just martial arts. See you on June 9th for The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig! Until then, happy reading!
Well howdy! This week we're wrangling ourselves a cowboy romance and it's wilder than a tumbleweed in a tornado! Saddle up and join us as we discuss this tension filled slowburn and what makes a manly man the manliest man in mansville. Oh and we do make some quite good points some of the time. Giddy up and give it a listen! Enjoy!
Can philosophy ever be made interesting? We're still searching for that answer even now. Join us as we discuss why anyone would wear a cardigan with nothing underneath it, if you can make boredom a personality and whether traditional publishing, with it's restraints and expectations is all it's cracked up to be! Another exciting week!
This week, we are back in the warm bosom of fantasy romance and we're reading a book with very big shoes to fill! It's filled with trickster faes, regency romance and of course a dark and broody x wet lettuce love triangle!
You can't make a Tomelette without breaking a few Gregs. (IYKYK).It's our fiftieth episode! We ask ourselves how did we get here? Both logistically and emotionally... and we talk you through the newest genre bending story from Olivie Blake, which sends us both into a bit of an existential crisis when we look at value judgements based on children that shape their identities. Heavy sh*t - but there's also a bunch of non serious avoidance after that! Here's to the next 50!
Are we still working our way through the stages of grief following Sunrise on the Reaping? Yes! Did we just need to read a feminist vampire romp to heal our broken hearts? Also yes! Join us in a discussion that results in us loving this book even more. Really?! On Page Turners?! Yes!!
