Description
Electric Gold is three guys sharing their unsolicited opinions about Nashville Soccer Club. We chat weekly about the highs and lows of the team, and we often get off on tangents about the city of Nashville, music, movies, television and all sorts of pop culture. Sometimes, we even compare Nashville SC to historical events like the Siege of Vienna in 1683. We share hot takes, chat about life as a Nashville SC supporter and preview upcoming games. And in every podcast, we drink lots of beer.

In this episode, the boys celebrate another astounding week of performances from Nashville SC. First, they revel in finally slaying the pink dragon as Nashville eliminated Inter Miami from the only competition they truly cared about this year. And then, the boys in gold poured it on against an inferior Orlando City side. The boys can't get over the awesome performances from new goalkeeper Brian Schwake, and Cristian Espinoza appears to be even better then advertised. There's actually praise to go around for all the players on Nashville SC, including one Eddi Tagseth, who seems to be everywhere all at once. Now that Miami has been shown who is daddy, it begs the question - who exactly is the best Argentinian footballer in the MLS? Because the boys maybe think Messi has been dethroned. And when they're not talking about the Agent of Chaos, the boys take some time to break down the upcoming international break and consider some World Cup thoughts for Team USA. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys welcome back the Cap'n as their special guest to reflect on an incredibly successful week for NSC, and also to celebrate the upcoming St. Patrick's Day holiday. They've got some catching up to do, so first they examine the huge win over Minnesota, as well as a respectable draw versus Miami, and an absolute grand theft in Columbus. There's no denying that Patrick Yazbek is leveling up, and we'd also like to formally welcome everyone to the Espinoza Era. And while there's plenty of love going around for the Nashville offense, let's not forget that the backline and our new goalie are showing their stuff, too. Meanwhile, we're still holding out hope for Awesome Qasem, and we totally should have beaten Miami on Wednesday night. The boys catch up with what Liam has been up to this past year, and they also break down their favorite active stand-up comedians. But then, it's time to look ahead and make predictions about the next leg of the Miami matchup as well as an important if underrated game versus Orlando. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys awaken from a coma to reflect on an action-packed game versus Ottawa, and a not-so-action-packed matchup in Dallas. They celebrate some excellent performances from the Millersville Messi and - could it be? - Awesome Qasem? Hopefully you're ready for your geometry lesson, because it fuels math, soccer and life. The boys have plenty to say about the blossoming of Matthew Corcoran, and whether we might have witnessed B.J. Callaghan's first-ever mistake of his life. Jeisson Palacios might be poised for a season to remember, and the CONCACAF is kinda stupid. The boys also warn that we need to watch out for a rising Chicago team, and Minnesota is right around the corner. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys can barely contain their enthusiasm for probably the best start to the season they could have hoped for. They break down an incredible week of victories for Nashville SC against Atletico Ottawa and the New England Revolution. There's plenty of love to go around, including for Super Sam Surridge, the giver of goals, and Brian Schwake in his MLS debut. But some folks, you just know you're in love as soon as you see them, and that's the case for the boys when they say Warren Madrigal and Maxwell Woledzi this week. The team's performance obviously reminded the boys of Handel's debut of the Messiah, and they've also got some hot takes about where the team is headed for the season and how high the ceiling could be - if there even is one. After a quick check of teams around the MLS, the boys break out the crystal balls for predictions on the upcoming second match against Ottawa as well as a road match versus FC Dallas. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys can barely contain their excitement for the 2026 season. Nashville SC has loaded up the roster, and the boys review all the recent moves and discuss why this is the best roster on paper that NSC has ever delivered. After giving some love to new arrival Christian Espinoza, they note how biased the Apple commentators seem to be against Nashville. Then, hot chicken takes are back, and it's raining goals! Finally, the boys break out the crystal balls to predict great things not only for the week ahead, but for the whole season. Is hardware in the team's future? And they drink beer.
It's a very special episode of Electric Gold as the boys usher in the 2026 soccer season for Nashville SC. Up first, the boys look ahead to the matchup with Canadian Premier League champs, Atletico Ottawa. And to do so, they welcome special guests from the Capital City Supporters Group to share insights about the team, the players and what the hell there is to do in Hamilton, Ontario. Special guests Bryce and Jon share some great stories about the history of Ottawa soccer, their fan culture, the recent success of their team, and especially the origin of their T-Rex mascot. And of course, everyone bonds over their love of Letterkenny, SCTV and other Canadian comedy gems. When that's all done, the boys break out the crystal balls to make some predictions for the first game of the CONCACAF tournament. And they drink beer.
Happy new year! The boys make an unexpected return earlier than they planned, but they couldn't contain their excitement over the NSC offseason any longer. In this episode, the boys review the highlights from their own offseasons, and then take a quick tour of the most important moves across Major League Soccer. Then, they share their love - or their hate - for each of the Nashville SC offseason transactions. They wish farewell to some of the departed; Shaff - you'll always be in our hearts. Tyler Boyd - we'll always have April 2024. But more importantly, it's time to roll out the red carpet for some big arrivals to Music City, especially Christian Espinoza. And the boys can't wait for the season to start! Then, they share some resolutions for the new year that they absolutely, positively won't break. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys are a bit stuffed after Thanksgiving, but they are still plenty thankful for a terrific season. But now it's time to look ahead to what Nashville SC will need to do this offseason so that they can compete for a championship in 2026. First and foremost, what's the answer at goalkeeper? Who's going to back up Dan Lovitz? Does our midfield need to be touched? And who's going to fill the gaping hole left by Teal Bunbury? But seriously, the boys share their letters to Santa and their top Christmas wishes for NSC going into the holiday season. And if that's not enough, the boys have visions of hot chicken takes dancing in their heads as they talk about what to expect in 2026 and explain why Apple TV is no good for the growth and popularity of Major League Soccer. Finally, the boys break out their crystal balls one last time to make predictions for the team's offseason, and they conclude a very fine season with best wishes to all and to all a good night. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys finally get around to wrapping up the season. They start by reflecting on their incredible extrasensory perception in predicting the NSC performance this past season, and they celebrate an overall successful and FUN season to watch. Did we mention this team was FUN?!?! Anyway, they look back at the highs - like that incredible winning streak in the early summer or the US Open Cup victory - and the lows - like the late season meltdown and the recurring challenge to overcome Lionel Messi. But screw all that, because there is hardware to hand out! It's the first annual Electric Goldies, and the boys have plenty of awards to hand out to the Nashville SC roster. Make sure to tune in next week when the boys will preview the offseason and 2026, which is sure to be full of hot chicken takes! And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys scratch their heads at the recent playoff game versus Miami. They question the strategy and lineup rolled out by Coach BJ Callaghan, but they take solace in the fact that it ain't over yet, and Nashville SC still has one more shot to keep this magical season going. And while they weren't so impressed with Sam Surridge or Jacob Shaffelburg, who has come down with a bad case of Randall Leal Disease. Speaking of, inspired by a listener, the boys take some time to reminisce about simpler times with former players Leal, Dax McCarty, Lukas McNaughton and Anibal Godoy, and then they start to worry that maybe Joe Willis and Walker Zimmerman might soon be joining that group. And let's stop exchanging jerseys at the end of games and get more intense and serious about all of this, shall we? Speaking of intense, the boys tell a tale about the Knights of St. John and the Siege of Malta in 1565, because NSC is about to pull off their own stand against the evil empire. And they drink beer.
The regular season is finally in the books, and the boys are here to put a bow on it by reviewing Nashville SC's final game versus Miami, whether they like it or not. They have to begrudgingly give praise where praise is due, but they don't have to like it. They DO like giving some praise to the team's aggressive first half play, and they've also got a shout out to give to captain Walker Zimmerman. But, the boys have a bone to pick with the NSC administration and their interpretation of "fan appreciation". After that, the boys take some time during this soccer podcast to talk about the greatness of basketball and botanical gardens. But most of all, a big, gigantic THANK YOU to a delightful career from Taylor Washington. And then the boys break down the basics of the MLS playoff structure, before gazing into their crystal balls to provide some bold predictions for Nashville's first playoff game this coming weekend in Miami. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys catch up on the draw that happened up in Montreal but don't get too worked up about it. They show some serious love for Sam Surridge, who may not be the league MVP, but he'll definitely be the MVP of our hearts. The boys are happy to see Orlando lose, but they've got some concerns about Sam Surridge as the team looks toward the playoffs. But more importantly, have you SEEN the Goofy Movie? Because it might be one of the greatest films of all time. And while we're on the subject, why does Disney hate biological parents? After that detour, the boys look ahead to a daunting final regular season game with Miami, make some VERY bold predictions and start to catch the playoff fever. And they drink beer.
It's a very special episode of Electric Gold! Congrats Nashville SC! The boys are celebrating the NSC victory in the US Open Cup Final! The boys in gold are wearing gold, and we're here for it. There's plenty of praise and gratitude to be shared - for the players, the coaching staff, the team management, and - most importantly - the fans. The boys also highlight the incredible performance by one Brian Schwake - the undeniable hero of the US Open Cup. They also address the silly controversy stirred up by CBS announcers after the game; quit your whining. And finally, the boys talk about how this victory could just be the start of something really exciting as this season wraps up. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys celebrate a strong performance by Nashville SC versus Houston, and they look ahead to the upcoming US Open Cup final versus Austin FC. They praise the team for their all-around play in the Houston game, and also highlight the special moments of Hispanic Heritage Night. And let's not forget that Dolly Parton is the greatest human of our lifetime, the inner joys of woodworking, or the depth of stories that come from Middle Earth. Then, they boys share a very hot take from one of our listeners before revealing the one big thing that Nashville can do to ensure a US Open Cup victory on Wednesday. Then, they look ahead and make predictions about both the Open Cup final as well as the upcoming match versus Montreal. And they drink beer.
In this episode, Ryan enjoys some ignorance as bliss since he missed Nashville SC's most recent heartbreak against Orlando. Jon and Evan fill him in on the details, including a befuddling choice for the midfield lineup, a poorly timed injury for one of our defenders and the complete lack of depth at center back. But there's plenty to celebrate, too, as the boys cheer on a terrific victory in the US Open Cup semifinal led by Super Sam Surridge. The boys also share some love for perhaps the greatest show in television history, Mad Men, as well as celebrate the 40th anniversary of the incredible charity and musical event, Farm Aid. And when it comes down to it, the boys are beginning to lose hope around this team's chances in the MLS playoffs, and they're also betting that it's past time to make a switch at goal. But after all that, they still have some positive predictions about the upcoming game versus Houston. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys return after a mini-hiatus to chat about the recent heartbreaker that Nashville SC experienced in Cincinnati. The boys try to find the positive spin, like the emergence of Tyler Boyd, the excellent play of the NSC midfield, and the brilliance of golden boot leader Sam Surridge. But there's just no getting around the math of the remaining schedule for NSC as well as their division rivals. But enough about that, let's talk about Waffle House! It truly is a southern treasure, and EVERYONE has a Waffle House story. But anyway, the boys have some hot takes about what will happen the rest of this season, they rub their (crystal) balls to try and see the future, and ultimately, they need YOU to show up on Tuesday night for an epic match against Philadelphia. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys celebrate an incredible return to form for NSC as they thumped Orlando and re-established themselves in the eastern conference race. There's plenty to be excited about, from our golden boot leader Sam Surridge to another MVP-type performance from Hany Mukhtar and other key contributors like Jacob Shaffelburg and 24-Hour Josh Bauer. And don't worry, the boys have plenty of favorite things to share, like the Muppets, the best podcast about the history of rock music, and the majesty of one Weird Al Yankovic. But wait, there's more! Can we interest you in some wild and crazy facts about Stanley Kubrick? Or perhaps you should form your response in the form of a question. In any case, there's a good case to be made that the team won't lose another home game this season, and maybe Jack Maher belongs on the bench. The boys wrap up with some big predictions for the upcoming game versus Atlanta. And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys ask what is the deal with Nashville SC lately? After the team's third loss in a row, the boys start turning over tables to find the reasons about this recent disappointing run. Is it the weather? Is it a lack of roster depth? Is it missing Dan Lovitz? God forbid, is it Eddi Tagseth? The boys are certainly excited to see a revival of Jacob Shaffelburg's game, but the struggles of the team overall overshadow any bright spots recently. After that analysis, the boys talk about some of their ultimate lineups - the ultimate FIFA video game team, the ultimate prog rock band, and the ultimate heist movie cast. Then the boys get spicy and proclaim that these next few games will ultimately define the Nashville SC season. And finally, the boys make some predictions about the upcoming clash with Orlando - let's hope that Jon's crystal ball is working better than Evan's! And they drink beer.
In this episode, the boys are getting nervous. They review the recent loss to the lowly St. Louis City FC, and discuss all the terrible defensive collapses. And woe is Joe! While the boys note that Nashville dodged any damage to their standings in the eastern conference, they still are concerned with the team's recent stretch of play and wonder if they peaked too soon. Peaking too soon is not something Steve Martin ever did, though. He peaked early and often and he's still going strong at almost 80. And while we all can agree that League's Cup sucks and maybe the team management never expected NSC to be this good this season (neither did we!), the boys take a look at the final stretch of the season to talk about what to expect and what they hope will happen. Finally, they wrap up with some predictions for the upcoming game versus New York City FC in stupid ol' Yankee Stadium. And they drink beer.
In this very special time capsule episode, we share one from the archives of The Electric Gold Hour on WRVU 91.1 FM. In this New Year's Eve episode from 1999, the boys reflect back on a wild ride through Nashville in the 1990's while also looking at what might lay ahead for the city. The boys share their preparations for Y2K, and wonder whether the town might ever be significant enough to support an MLS team. They lament the closing of Opryland and celebrate wonderful music events like River Stages and Dancin' in the District. They've got some controversial opinions to share about the brilliance of Chris Gaines and the strains of Nashville growth. They share some of their favorite music, movies and television from the 90's before wrapping up with some predictions about where the city is headed. And they drink beer.
