Who is the woman behind the clothes?

As a Personal Image Stylist, Kate Bird's job is to help people dress their physical selves to look and feel their best.

But her work is just as much (if not more) about getting to know the person on the inside as it is about dressing the person on the outside.

This podcast has been born from Kate's love of probing and personal chats with people from all walks of life.  Listen as she takes a rummage behind her guests'  public masks and discovers their private personas on the inside.

Kate's styling philosophy is: once we understand ourselves on the inside, we can start to dress more aesthetically comfortable on the outside. And dressing authentically results in making better connections with those around us.

What we wear impacts how we feel, everything we do, the choices we make, the life we lead.

Let's take a look at the women behind the clothes.

In this short episode, I share with you my top three favourite colour analysis myths. Colour Analysis has recently been 'rediscovered' by some of the social media platforms that are followed by the younger generations (I'm Gen X). You may have seen reels of people telling you how you can 'self diagnose' your colours to figure out whether you have a warm or cool undertone to your skin (and therefore whether you'll look better wearing warmer or cooler colours). It turns out, self diagnosis m...
Straight after recording this episode, I picked up the phone and booked myself a mammogram. When was the last time you had yours? Imagine yourself as a fit and healthy young woman in your prime - in fact you've just celebrated your fortieth birthday. You're a successful engineer, working on a mine site in a remote part of Western Australia for much for the year. And then you feel a lump. This is what happened just last year to my colour client, Maya Polanski. At the age of just for...
Once we hit mid-life we're, sadly, more likely to know someone (or at least know of someone) who has received the shocking news of a life-threatening illness. When Donna Boylen hit forty, she found that the orderly and stable life she'd built for herself and her family was unexpectedly turned upside down as she was forced to relinquish the control on her life that she'd previously taken for granted. One very ordinary day, Donna's beloved husband phoned her at work to say he'd just be...
Like me, Kim Holland strongly believes that society needs to start looking at women in menopause-and-midlife, differently. As a Counsellor, Somatic Therapist and Creative Arts Therapist, Kim looks upon menopause as being much more than just a list of negative, physical symptoms. She sees it as being an exciting transitional time of our lives that can give us opportunity to become strong, empowered and liberated women. It’s a time when we can give ourselves permission ...
Kat Ferguson (48) is a talented abstract artist who co-creates some of the most recognisable works of public art in Western Australia. It's quite possible that, if you live in WA, you'll be familiar with Kat without evening knowing who she is! Once known as 'the naughty kid' in her native South East London, Kat now lives with her family in WA where she's had opportunities available to her that have far exceeded even her own creative dreams. Kat manages her menopausal, suspected-ADHD, highl...
Karen Beale (52) has just been nominated as the Labor Candidate to represent Kalamunda and surrounding Perth Hills areas in the 2025 State Elections. A fourth generation Perth Hills girl, Karen grew up clearly understanding that expectations of her were to get married, have children and look after her family. So that's how Karen's life began: she married at 20, then again and 25 and again at 44 - all whilst raising three children. Karen found herself a single mother with a toddler and six ...
My very first guest on this podcast is Peta Fissioli. I met Peta a couple of times last year when she joined one of my Discover your Colours workshops, and then shortly afterwards, The Body Shape Rules workshop. Peta (51) grew up in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia and lived a happy, country life with her parents and older sister. Although never a slave to fashion, and despite (or maybe because of) being dressed in her sister's hand-me-downs, as a teenager Peta took her fashion influence...
