Three years later, Andrew Painter delivered the goods. He threw two scoreless innings on Sunday against the Yankees in his first Grapefruit League start in exactly three years. It’s been a long road back for Painter, who had Tommy John surgery in 2023. But in a 20-pitch effort against several quality big leaguers, Painter pounded the strike zone and got early contact. What to make of it? What’s Zack Wheeler’s timeline to rejoin the rotation? What’s up with Aidan Miller’s back? Start your 7-day free trial today at https://FOXOne.com Love the show? It’s not often we get Ruben, Jim and Todd together in the same room for a show, but we made it happen Wednesday in Clearwater. The Phillies will play their Grapefruit League opener on Saturday against the Blue Jays in Dunedin. They play their home opener on Sunday against the Pirates at BayCare Ballpark. What do we want to see in the coming weeks? There’s a lot. Good things from Aaron Nola. Good things from Adolis García. A sense of what the lineup is going to be. Is it going to be Kyle Schwarber protecting Bryce Harper or vice versa? How about good things from Phillies prospects Andrew Painter, Justin Crawford and Aidan Miller. Love the show? Bryce Harper got to Clearwater, Florida, on Sunday. He spoke to reporters in the morning outside BayCare Ballpark. He had a lot to say: He talked about Dombrowski’s comments in October, when he wondered if Harper would be elite again or not. He said while he doesn’t need any motivation, the fact Dombrowski said what he said publicly bothered him. He talked about how the Phillies’ cleanup hitters need to step up. He talked about participating in the WBC. He talked about the Phillies’ chances to compete and more. Harper mentioned the Phillies’ cleanup hitters. Alec Bohm could be the guy this year. We discussed his importance to the 2026 season as well. Love the show? The Phillies couldn’t salvage their relationship with Nick Castellanos. They didn’t want to. So, they released him on Thursday. The Phillies are eating the final $20 million of a five-year, $100 million contract. That’s how badly they wanted Castellanos to go away. We talked about the Phillies’ decision, why it took so long and Castellanos’ admission that he brought a beer into the visitors’ dugout in Miami in June. We get into everything that soured the Phillies on Castellanos, and vice versa. Love the show? Day 1 of Phillies spring training is in the books. Phillies ace Zack Wheeler talked about his recovery from thoracic outlet decompression surgery in September, which required the removal of the first rib near his right shoulder. Wheeler revealed that he kept the rib, and it’s sitting in a case in his closet at home! Wheeler is missing a rib and Nick Castellanos is missing a locker in the Phillies’ clubhouse. He’s still on the 40-man roster, but he won’t be much longer. Plus, the plan for Aidan Miller, Aaron Nola’s decision to pitch for Italy in the WBC and Orion Kerkering’s tweaked hamstring. The Phillies smoked the Mets in the NL East last year, winning the division by 13 games. But the Mets won the offseason, especially when they stunned the Phils and signed Bo Bichette. So, who’s better? We go position by position through the Phillies and Mets lineups, including the rotation and bullpen: Catcher: Francisco Alvarez vs. J.T. Realmuto First base: Jorge Polanco vs. Bryce Harper Second base: Marcus Semien vs. Bryson Stott Third base: Bo Bichette vs. Alec Bohm Shortstop: Francisco Lindor vs. Trea Turner Left field: Carson Begne/Tyrone Taylor vs. Brandon Marsh/Otto Kemp Center field: Luis Robert Jr vs. Justin Crawford Right field: Juan Soto vs. Adolis García RIP Dan McQuade. If you’ve been listening to the show the past several weeks, you know we’ve been saying Harrison Bader almost certainly wouldn’t be returning to the Phillies in 2026. Sure enough, he just agreed to a two-year, $20.5 million deal with the Giants. So what’s the Phillies’ outfield going to be? Is there any chance the Phils sign another outfielder before camp opens next month? We discuss Bader, the Phillies’ outfield situation, remaining free agents on the market and non-roster invitees coming to camp. Love the show? We asked you for your Phillies questions, and by and large they fit into three buckets: Are the Phillies really content with their offseason, like Dave Dombrowski said. How concerned should fans be about the Phillies’ outfield? How concerned should fans be about the Phillies’ starting pitching depth? Thanks for the questions. What a week for the Phillies. They went to sleep on Thursday thinking they were signing Bo Bichette, who stunningly signed a three-year, $126 million deal with the Mets on Friday. The Phillies quickly improved their offer to J.T. Realmuto, who thought his Phillies career was over. But Realmuto is back, and Dave Dombrowski said he is “content” with where they are as a team. We dig into a messy situation. Love the show? What the hell happened? The Phillies offered Bo Bichette a seven-year, $200 million contract on Thursday. They thought they had him. Then – poof – he’s gone. Bichette stunned everybody in baseball, when he accepted a three-year, $126 million deal with the Mets instead. The Phillies followed the massive disappointment by signing J.T. Realmuto to a three-year, $45 million deal. What happened with Bichette? What do we think about the Realmuto deal? What comes next? Love the show? The Phillies’ pursuit of Bo Bichette is heating up. They have talked at least twice this week, including Monday’s ballyhooed Zoom. The Phillies see a path to bringing Bichette to Philadelphia, but several obstacles remain. First, they must outbid the Dodgers, Yankees, Blue Jays, Red Sox and any “mystery” teams. Second, they must shed salary. That means trading Alec Bohm’s $10.2 million contract. That means finding an alternative for J.T. Realmuto. But is there a way the Phillies could sign both? We discuss all the angles in our latest episode. Love the show? The Phillies might not be running it back after all. They are having a virtual meeting on Monday with Bo Bichette. We discuss: Why the Phillies jumped into the Bichette sweepstakes. The Phillies’ chances to sign Bichette, including the Phils’ top competition. What does this mean for J.T. Realmuto? What does this mean for Alec Bohm? The Phillies have hired Don Mattingly to be their bench coach in 2026. We love the hire. But how does it help the Phillies? Well, of course, it could help their late-game decision making. But if you read between the lines, Phillies manager Rob Thomson hinted that Mattingly’s star power should bring increased credibility to the coaching staff. The Phillies are trying to tighten up things, and they believe Mattingly should help. We dig into J.T. Realmuto’s free agency. We talk about the chance Bo Bichette signs with the Phillies, too.
