The line of scrimmage is the whole story, and Vanderford got there in one sentence: "We just got our butts whooped on the line of scrimmage." Losing Kewan Lacy mattered. It does not explain 302 rushing yards. One tackle for loss on 53 carries is not a talent number — it is a hesitation number, and that is what a shorter call sheet deletes. 2. Five to ten calls, and this is not one man's hunch. Willis has run it past John Fourcade, Bill Flowers and Todd Wade — three former Rebels, three eras, three positions — and all three agreed. A lot of man coverage, send five and six every snap, live with getting beaten over the top. "Play fast, create negative plays, earn the right to be complex." 3. If the Adidas report is accurate, there is no debate. Ole Miss is reported to be near a switch that would put the Rebels in the top five of Adidas' college catalog at around $20 million a year, against a Nike counter said to be roughly a third of that. No amount of good-looking gear closes a gap that size. Ole Miss lost 52-28 at No. 21 Florida, and the number that explains it is 302 — Florida's rushing yards. Not the secondary everybody spent the offseason worrying about. Florida plays No. 2 Georgia on Oct 31 in Atlanta, seven days before Georgia comes to Oxford. Ole Miss gets to watch its own blueprint get attacked by a top-five offense, with a full week to answer it, in both of the games that decide the season. 8 days to Vanderbilt in Nashville. The schedule order is the good news. Florida at Texas on Oct 17; Ole Miss at Texas on Oct 24. Florida vs Georgia on Oct 31 in Atlanta — the first time that game has been in Atlanta since 1995; Georgia in Oxford on Nov 7. Seven days, twice. It cuts both ways, but a staff watching its own problem attacked in real time with a week to answer beats an opponent reading a blueprint. 2. "They are not good enough to not play aggressive defense." Against Florida, Ole Miss got six total pressures and ZERO sacks on ~112 pass-rush snaps, with only two of the six coming from the front. A passive four-man rush doesn't make a true freshman uncomfortable — it hands him a clean pocket. Flowers and Wade said the same thing independently: send five, send six, put a clock on him. 3. The coaching provision, not the 20-team cap, is what you'd feel first. Head coaches couldn't leave or take another FBS job mid-season — no more hires in week ten.
