In this episode of The Gothic Heart, I'm asking a big question that cuts to the core: Do you like who you are? This idea has been swirling in my mind a lot lately, especially since I've been noticing how my nine-year-old daughter is dealing with some of the same pressures and self-doubt I once faced. It made me think about my own journey of self-acceptance, which really started to solidify when I was 28. I share my story of a turning point in my life, where I realized that despite what other people thought or advised, I loved who I was and wasn't willing to change. We dive into how people, even those who care about us, can project their opinions and expectations onto our lives. But the key is deciding what feels true to you and sticking with it. I talk about the times I second-guessed myself, how some people around me made me question my choices, and what it took to say, "You know what? I like me, and that's all that matters." I hope this episode inspires you to embrace your unique self and live authentically, regardless of the judgments or stereotypes you might face. It's not always easy, but it's so worth it. Tune in to hear more about my journey, and let's explore what it means to like who you are. I'd love to hear your stories, too. So, do you like who you are? Let's talk about it. See you in the episode!   Episode Highlights: Realizing Self-Acceptance The Impact of External Voices Finding Non-Negotiables and Setting Boundaries Self-Reflection and Personal Growth If you're loving what you heard, grab a screenshot and spread the word on Instagram! Summary: In this episode of "The Gothic Heart," I share a story from my law school days that reveals the struggle of staying true to your style while dealing with the expectations of society. I remember wearing a bright red pleather dress to our annual Barrister's Ball, thinking it was the perfect way to express my personality. But later, I found out that a professor I hadn’t even met was judging me for it, saying it was inappropriate and that I'd never make it in the legal world with that kind of fashion sense. I was like, are you kidding me? We were at a party, not a courtroom! But here's the thing—I didn't let those judgments change who I was or how I dressed. I kept my edge while still meeting the professional expectations of law school and, later, the courtroom. I designed jewelry that was subtle but had hidden gothic elements, and I got tattoos that could be covered with a suit. It's all about finding ways to be yourself without giving in to societal pressure. In this episode, I talk about the balancing act of expressing your true self while navigating environments that might not be so open to alternative styles. If you've ever felt like you had to tone down your style or hide your interests just to fit in, you'll relate to this. Join me as I share my experiences and give some tips on how to strike that balance. Because at the end of the day, you should never have to apologize for being you.
