We have talked before about wages at the Disneyland Resort and all the struggles that cast and the company have had coming to a mutually beneficial agreement. Disneyland has agreed to pay $233 million dollars to settle a 2019 class-action lawsuit that alleged Disney was not adjusting wages to match the higher requirements that Anaheim had passed. In addition to the settlement, four unions representing over 14,000 employees struck a deal to raise the base pay to $24 an hour, including back pay with interest to 2019. – https://www.micechat.com/423670-disneyland-news-most-stressful-record-settlement-ceo-succession/
A new experience is coming to Naples Ristorante e Bar in Downtown Disney this Halloween season. Walt Disney Imagineering is at it again showing off their skills online! This time, they posted a video on Instagram showing off the behind-the-scenes that resulted in the updated Oogie Boogie for Haunted Mansion Holiday. Weeklyteers who watched the special edition of 20/20 for the Disneyland 70th Anniversary may have seen a preview of Mr. Lincoln, which will be premiering after the 70th anniversary in 2026, in rotation with Walt Disney – A Magical Life. The Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln show will be largely the same, except for the setting. Lincoln now sits in a space similar to the Oval Office, flanked by US and State of Illinois flags. If you missed it on ABC, you can stream The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland on Disney+ and Hulu. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/reimagined-great-moments-with-mr-lincoln-first-look/
Not a ton is going on construction-wise in the parks, but there is quite a bit going on in Downtown Disney. The security checkpoint between the Disneyland Hotel and the shopping district is under construction to add a new, permanent gate. The new location for Earl of Sandwich continues to take shape, while work still continues on Lullemon in the old ESPN Zone building, and exterior work on the LEGO store. – https://www.micechat.com/423670-disneyland-news-most-stressful-record-settlement-ceo-succession/
A recent study of TripAdvisor reviews found that some of the places we like to visit the most are also the most stressful. Theme parks dominate the results, with 6 Disney locations in the top 20 worldwide. Disneyland ranks #5 globally, but #1 in the US, followed by the Las Vegas Strip, and the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. Some reasons for theme parks to rank so highly include a combination of massive crowds, long wait times, and high expectations. To see all the results, check out the link in our show notes. – https://www.micechat.com/423670-disneyland-news-most-stressful-record-settlement-ceo-succession/

Viewers of the Paint the Night parade at Disneyland got more than they bargained for last week. As The Little Mermaid float made its way towards the hub from it’s a small world, had a power issue and stopped on the route. As it was being towed backstage through the hub, a complication with the brakes led to visible smoke coming from the vehicle. Guests and performers were moved away from the area and the Disneyland Fire Department took care of it. The Little Mermaid Unit was back in the parade on the next evening. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/paint-the-night-little-mermaid-float-fire/ https://www.micechat.com/423339-disneyland-update-parade-problems-predictions-projects/
Another issue cropped up on Main Street the next day! The Emporium, Candy Palace, and Carnation Cafe were briefly closed due to a fire alarm. Guests were evacuated from the spaces and allowed back in a while later. Carnation Cafe opened after Emporium and Candy Palace. No word on what caused this issue. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/09/12/smoke-alarm-causes-evacuation-on-main-street-u-s-a-in-disneyland/#more-1067637
Disneyland, Honda Center, and Angels tickets could be going up. A member on the Anaheim City Council proposed exploring an entertainment tax. Currently, the city only gets tax revenue from hotel stays, but not from park or event tickets and parking. The city council is looking to add this to the ballot for November, 2026 and let the residents decide. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-anaheim-entertainment-tax-tickets-and-parking/
A new ticket deal is being promoted through email, but only to select potential guests. The ticket deal requires a PIN to purchase, which is included in the email. This email is not being sent to everyone, just a group of addresses. No indication on what qualifies someone to get his promotion, but it is out there. The deal is for 1, 2, and 3 day park hoppers starting as low as $139, valid from September 10 through December 12th. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/09/10/why-every-disney-adult-needs-to-check-their-email/#more-1067100

Dreaming Tree Gala – https://waltdisneyhometownmuseum.betterworld.org/events/2025-dreaming-tree-gala-at-disne
Most guests who enter the Disneyland Resort pass by adorable police dogs while entering the resort. This week, the Disney Parks Blog goes into detail about the training of these furry cast members. The report states that they want this system up and running before the summer Olympic games coming to Los Angeles in 2028. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/gondola-system-could-connect-disneyland-honda-center/https://www.ocvibe.com/ https://anaheiminvestigator.com/2025/09/02/city-planners-looking-at-aerial-gondola-system-to-connect-platinum-triangle-with-anaheim-resort/

On August 27th, Hank received the Walt Disney Legacy Award, which celebrates the legacy of Walt Disney who exhibit three Legacy qualities: Dream, Create, and Inspire. The quarterly earnings report for the Walt Disney Company was released last week. The Experiences division, which includes theme parks and cruise ships, was the stand out for the company, bringing in double what the Entertainment division, which is made up of movies, streaming, and TV, brought in. The Entertainment numbers were $2.516 billion vs $1.02 billion for entertainment. Overall, the company is doing well, with entertainment needing to come around. Expansions and attendance at the parks and cruise lines are strong, and should continue to be. – https://www.micechat.com/420618-disneyland-update-pumpkins-profits-park-progress/

News:
Guests who were at Disneyland on the 4th of July were able to celebrate more than the birthday of the United States. Crowds were way down. This was likely due to most Magic Keys being blocked out and the price for the 1 park/1 day ticket was $200. No festive decorations were installed this year, due to the 70th, and the 4th fireworks show wasn’t heavily publicized. However, that meant that guests could walk on to quite a few attractions and enjoy the park with much less of a crowd! – https://www.micechat.com/418376-disneyland-news-crowds-collapse-pixies-ghosts-robo-walt/
As July 17th nears, one of the last pieces has fallen into place. The new marquee at the Main Street Opera House was installed this past week. The new sign now features both Great Moments with Mr Lincoln, and Walt Disney – A Magical Life. The new blue sign replaces the darker red sign that was there before and it looks amazing! – https://www.micechat.com/418376-disneyland-news-crowds-collapse-pixies-ghosts-robo-walt/
Part of the new Opera House experience will be a new exhibit from the Walt Disney Archives and the Walt Disney Family Museum. Several items were painstakingly packed up and driven to the park to be installed from the museum in San Francisco. More than 30 objects were loaned to the resort, many of which have never been on display outside of the Family Museum. The exhibit opens with the new show on July 17th. – https://www.instagram.com/reel/DLqDLPOtkbv/?utm_source=ig_embed
Weeklyteers who are interested in visiting Walt’s 1930s estate in the Hollywood Hills will have a few opportunities this summer. Known at Walt Disney’s Storybook Mansion, Walt and Lillian lived here and raised their daughters in the mansion. It is rarely open to the public, but for $75 per person, you can get a tour of the property on Saturday, July 12, July 26th, or August 2nd. There are multiple tours on each day. These are sure to sell out, so visit the link in our show notes to book your visit today! – https://disney-house-tours-july-12.eventzilla.net/e/2138656162
It seems like overnight the old Port Royal shop was converted to a seating area for guests from a gift shop. Just one more night and it is now back to a gift shop once again! The shop now features mostly Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise, but otherwise looks much like it did before it was changed to seating. – https://www.micechat.com/418376-disneyland-news-crowds-collapse-pixies-ghosts-robo-walt/
On July 7th, the new Celebrate Happy collection launched. This collection features the bright colors of the Disneyland 70th celebration. Getting a window on Main Street is one of the highest honors at Disneyland. The most recent new window on Main Street was for the Make-A-Wish foundation back in 2023. – https://www.micechat.com/418015-disneyland-news-pirates-unplugged-leotas-legacy-bubble-bonanza/
A couple of attractions have returned this week. Pixie Hollow, which has been behind construction walls for a long time has finally reopened with pixie meet and greets. The area is largely unchanged from the previous version, just freshened up. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room also reopened this week, with the courtyard opening before the attraction. The tiki gods have all been refreshed, with Tangaroa being completely replaced with higher limbs. Inside, the attraction feels brighter, with new LED lightning, but some of the elements of the attraction are still not animated. – https://www.micechat.com/418015-disneyland-news-pirates-unplugged-leotas-legacy-bubble-bonanza/
A new collaboration is coming to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. Disney has partnered with Coca-Cola to offer 30 specialty cans and bottles of Coke products for purchase, with 3 being only available at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Star Wars fans can collect their favorite icons, with shows and scenes from the movies, and TV. Fans can then scan cans, bottles, or street advertisements to unlock immersive AR experiences. You can also record a message of hope, inspiration, or encouragement, like a transmission that can be shared as a hologram-style video with your community. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/new-coca-cola-collaboration-celebrates-star-wars-fans/
If you would like your very own tiki bird at home, the Garner Holt Foundation has an option for you. They have launched a Kickstarter campaign to provide animatronic songbird mini kits so Disney fans can make them at home. You can customize the bird, and program it to talk or sing. – https://www.micechat.com/417829-garner-holt-diy-animatronic-bird-kit/

The resort celebrated a very special family of cast members recently by creating a very special photo. The McShea family currently has 7 family members working at the resort. The photo was setup by Disney as a surprise for current cast member Morgan McShea’s mother Pam. Pam met Morgan’s dad Scott, who was an electrician at Disneyland, when she worked in Tomorrowland attractions. Scott’s two brothers, Jeff and Glen also work at the resort. Morgan was hired at the resort in 2017 at the Haunted Mansion, and her twin siblings Hannah and Bryce were hired a few years later. Their cousin, Cameron, also works in Toontown. Morgan knew her mom would like a photo of the entire family in one photo at Disneyland, so they made it happen. The framed photo was presented to Pam in Tomorrowland. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disneyland-cast-member-suprises-mom-with-the-ultimate-family-photo/

It is that time of the year to start planning for the Halloween season at Disneyland. Next week, Oogie Boogie Bash tickets go on sale. This is a competetive event to get tickets for, so be sure to get in early and pick your dates. Inspire Magic Key holders can get tickets starting on June 24th no earlier then 9am Disneyland time, with all other Magic Key holders having an opportunity starting June 25th. General public sales start on June 26th. Dates start even before the Halloween season on August 17th, and run through October 31st. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/2025-halloween-at-disneyland-oogie-boogie-bash-dates-and-more/
There are some other updates on the Halloween season at the resort. For 2025, Halloween Time will start on August 22nd and run through October 31st. Mickey and Minnie will get new outfits for the occasion, as usual. This time they will be a twist on the 70th costumes! Haunted Mansion Holiday is returning, along with Halloween Screams. Over in Disney California Adventure, Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween, Mater’s Junkyard JamBOOree, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark are returning. Mickey’s Trick and Treat is coming to the Disney Theater for the fall, replacing Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! Of course food and merchandise will be along as well. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/2025-halloween-at-disneyland-oogie-boogie-bash-dates-and-more/
With Halloween Time and Disneyland’s 70th happening at the same time, you might wonder what is staying from the 70th during the spooky season. Paint the Night, World of Color – Happiness, and Tapestry of Happiness will continue to run throughout the season. Disney says “areas and attractions around the resort will retain special touches, including decorative accents and the colorful castle photo opportunity in the esplanade.” – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/2025-halloween-at-disneyland-oogie-boogie-bash-dates-and-more/
This Saturday, a few authors of Disneyland books will be at Wonderground for a book release and signing. Don Hahn and Christopher Merrit will be on hand to sign The Happiest Place on Earth: The Incredible Story of Walt Disney’s Disneyland, Martha Blanding and Tim O’Day for Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman’s Journey Through the Happiest Place on Earth, Matthew Reinhart for Disneyland Park (a Pop-Up Park Tour), and finally Bob Weis with Dream Chasing: My Four Decades of Success and Failure with Walt Disney Imagineering. A couple of construction items that we have been following at the resort have some updates. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room has a reopening date of July 3rd! Pixie Hollow has been behind construction walls for a while now, and looks to be returning on June 29th. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/
When we were in the parks a few weeks ago, we noticed new lamp posts in front of Main Street Station, by the Mickey floral. Walls are back up in this area to install more of these lamp posts. The new lights look like gas lamps, but use regular bulbs with a mesh over them to give a vintage look. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/
We talked about the neat Magic Band touch points around Disneyland in a previous episode, but there was still one location that had not come online yet. The last point in Tomorrowland, themed to Autopia is finally online. This one is a bit of a letdown as this one only makes car noises when activated. – https://www.micechat.com/417417-disneyland-update-guest-injury-expansion-blues/

A Disneyland icon is retiring after 55 years with the Walt Disney Company. Kim Irvine will be passing the torch to the next generation of Imagineers to guide Disneyland. Over her time with the company, Kim worked on the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sleeping Beauty Castle, Project Stardust, and more recently, the refurbishment of the Jungle Cruise and the Adventureland Treehouse. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/
Last Thursday, Disneyland President Thomas Mazloum gave a State of the Resort presentation and unveiled some major upcoming changes. The first of these was concept art for a new entrance experience for guests on the Harbor side of the resort. This includes a new Transportation Hub, and major esplanade changes. A new guest bridge will take guests from a new parking structure behind the hotels on Harbor Boulevard to the entrance to the parks. There will still be a security checkpoint on Harbor for guests staying at those hotels. The transportation hub will move from between the parks to the new parking area, along with a security checkpoint. Construction on a new 6,000 space parking structure, rideshare and shuttle zones, and everything else is set to begin in fall of 2026. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/future-expansion-plans-for-disneyland-resort/
Two other projects at Disney California Adventure got some more firm details. The “Avatar Experience” will displace Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue!, which will close in early 2026. No further details on the experience, construction timeline, or anything else for this area was announced. The “Coco”-themed attraction did get some more details! The attraction will be located near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier, in a current backstage area. Construction will begin this fall! – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/future-expansion-plans-for-disneyland-resort/
June is Black Music Month, which means the return of an annual celebration. Celebrate Soulfully runs now through the end of June. The event features specialty food, character meet and greets, and performances around the resort. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/events-tours/celebrate-soulfully/
While we were in the parks, we were able to get a sneak peek over the scrim to see the update on the Tiki Room. It appears that Tangaroa has been installed and other Tiki Gods are also being refreshed. The flowers and tikis that fall from Tangaroa look to be higher up than before, but it was hard to say for certain over the scrim. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/
The Walt Disney Archives does some amazing work, which you can see in the parks for the 70th! Inside of Carthay Circle Restaurant, there is a new “Celebrating 70 Years of Disneyland Resort with the Walt Disney Archives” exhibit. It features a ticket book, a Sam the Eagle top hat from America Sings, a Disneyland survey marker, and more. Certainly worth checking out if you are in the parks. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/
We had talked previously of some of the missing decorations from the 70th concept art for Sleeping Beauty Castle. Well, they were just a little late for the start of the celebration! The toppers to the banners on the drawbridge have been installed. They feature two horns attached to the 70th medallion, and swirling magic leading up to the light on top. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/
Disney giveth and Disney taketh away. The fountains in the moat in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle appear to have been removed. The fountains were installed for the Disney100 celebration and were expected to stay after, but they are now gone. – https://www.micechat.com/417008-disneyland-news-kim-irvine-exits-coco-avatar-expand-construction-update/
The “main” location of Earl of Sandwich has a closing date. A new Stitch sipper is available at the Galactic Grill for $25.99, which comes with a fountain drink of choice. New Magic Shots featuring Stitch photobombing you at the Main Entrance, and near Sleeping Beauty Castle. Last week, we reported on the music box-style music in the esplanade to go along with the sculpture. This week, the slower music box music has been replaced with a mix of classic Disneyland music, and vocal tracks from the Disneyland 70th celebration. The music box music isn’t completely gone though – it plays each night at 10pm as a post-fireworks “kiss goodnight.” – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/
Even with the Disneyland 70th in nearly full swing, there are still some construction projects happening around the resort. Matterhorn Mountain is getting some pretty extensive track and rock work completed, the Enchanted Tiki Room, along with the Tiki Juice Bar are both behind walls for refurbishment. Mendocino Terrace in Disney California Adventure is still being worked on, while outside in Downtown Disney, Earl of Sandwich is coming along quickly now, and the old Tortilla Jo’s is all but leveled. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/
The Little Man of Disneyland, Patrick Begorra, is setting off to another land in the park. Patrick is being celebrated at Club 33 with his own menu. He is going on a “Royal Adventure” to New Orleans Square where the menu features cocktails representing the five original lands. The Watchlight, and the Strawberry Streetcar for Main Street, Flights of Enchantment for Fantasyland, Amber Waves of Tea for Frontierland, Neverending Tomorrow for Tomorrowland, and Uncharted Nature for Adventureland. There are also some food options for each of the lands as part of the 70th celebration. For Memorial Day in the United States, Disneyland had a few ways to honor the people who gave their lives in service to the country. Tables have been setup around the resort for fallen soldiers, with an empty place setting, reminding guests of the soldiers who did not make it home. The Flag Retreat ceremony in Town Square was larger then usual to honor the day. The Navy’s 32nd Street Brass Band performed at Disney California Adventure on the Hollywood Pictures Backlot stage last week to round out the holiday. – https://www.micechat.com/416185-disneyland-update-parades-parties-patriotism-as-summer-starts/

The Disneyland 70th finally kicked off on Friday. While the lines for merchandise, 70th experiences, and food were longer than usual, the lines for attractions were very off-season feeling. After over two years, a part of Adventureland has returned in a different form. The Adventureland restrooms across from the entrance to the land have finally lost the not very temporary wall. Lord the Hawaiian gods at Tiki Room are so badly voiced.
I have a feeling that those who need to hear about park etiquette the most don't listen to this podcast.
I loved this pod cast! thank you! this is just the kind of information I have been wanting to plan our Disneyland trip next year! I will definitely be buying a tour plan! best $8 I could spend to get the most out of our trip!
As always, your so up beat and fun to listen to! thanks for your pod cast! We are planning a trip to DL in January or February 2020. when we went 2 years ago we opted for the one park per day to save money. that worked out great for us. I agree with Theresa. stay where you are and enjoy more ride time instead of jumping around. Also, with the addition of max pass, the money you save with the one park per day will pay for your max pass!
Shelly was delightful! I really enjoy it when you have cast members on the show! Great idea to leave positive feed back for a cast member as you leave the park! Thanks for such a wonderful podcast!
I had so much fun listening to this episode! We are planning a trip to Disneyland in just over a year, Jan. 2020, and I've already put in my phone calendar to listen to this episode again while we drive to Anaheim! thanks for such a great podcast! I tell people about it all the time. I've learned so much about Disneyland! I rarely get to go but have childhood memories and we were able to take our kids 4 times while they were growing up. we all have great Disney memories. thanks for giving me a weekly fix!
