Hey, Kingdom Family! In this week’s episode, Leif and Paul share about three eras of modern missions. From the Apostle Paul, Gutenberg, and Martin Luther to David Livingstone and Joshua Project, modern missions have changed significantly over the last centuries.
The individuals we consider heroes of missions demonstrate what faith looks like and how it operates in far-reaching and dangerous places. Many of these people learned local languages, promoted social reform, and were all willing to fully surrender their lives to Jesus to see nations transformed.
The first era (1792-1864) is known as the era of the coastlands. Leif and Paul discuss William Carey and his impact in Calcutta, India, after 41 years of service. Gifted in linguistics, Carey translated the Bible into seven languages and was passionate about advocating social reform. Carey famously said, “Expect great things from God and attempt great things for God.”
The second era (1865-1980) concentrated on nations’ interiors. Leif and Paul discuss David Livingstone’s mission exploits in Africa and Hudson Taylor in China inland. Livingstone’s impact and contribution are far outside the scope of missions. He was a well-known explorer who paved new pathways in jungles and a respected scientific investigator.
Hudson Taylor, through his mission China Inland Mission, equipped 800 missionaries to establish 125 schools throughout China, which resulted in 20,000 Christian conversions. He translated the bible as well.
The third era (1981-2000) emphasized reaching every people group. Church denominations focused on educating believers to reach all people with the Gospel. Some well-known organizations included Joshua Project and the Eighty-Two Thousand Movement. Large mission movements shared a vision to give the gospel to every person and to establish a church among every people group.
Some of the blessings of the three eras include the availability of the Bible in most languages and the prayer and intercession movements spurred by the advancement of new technologies over the centuries.
Come back to listen to Heroes of Missions Pt. 2 as we discuss the fourth and current era of missions!

Welcome, Kingdom Family! This week, we’re introducing a new series called “Heroes of Harvest.” In this episode, Leif and Paul discuss the heroes of the faith outlined in Hebrews 11. These were people who lived by faith, living full and dying empty, giving all they had to build God’s Kingdom on earth.
We are invited to honor the price paid by those who have gone before us. We can honor their lives, obedience, and sacrifices to the living God. As a result, lives were saved, and nations were transformed.
Be blessed!

You have an important part to play in God’s great plan!
During Pentecost, the purpose of the baptism of the Holy Spirit was to initiate a “Holy go!” Acts 1:8 says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, an in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” We are all invited to be Jesus witnesses.
It doesn’t matter if you are a doctor, school teacher, engineer, housewife, or teenager. You are on a mission with God and you are called to finish the task.
Learn more about finishing the task and Global Mission Awareness here.
Hey Kingdom Family! I invite you to join me and my spiritual son, Paul Yadao, in Part 2 of the podcast “The Unfinished Task.” We hear Jesus’ clear invitation to go to places and cities where we will re-present Him to bring the Kingdom of God, and we see Him move in and through us. We also share how hospitality is a weapon of warfare and a key to finishing the unfinished task.

As part of this series on fulfilling the great commission and doing it with a great commandment heart, the big question is, “What is the one thing that has stopped us from fulfilling what is His last command that should be our first priority?” And that is to take the Gospel to every nation and to be able to see a community among every ethnic group in the world so that Jesus can come back. I have said it many times, it is a heart issue. I believe the biggest reason is that we have been distracted and the enemy has distracted us from making the main thing the main thing. Part of where our treasure is also where our heart is and we can see an indicator.
So the reason there is a lot of darkness is because of a lack of light. And we spend only fifty cents out of every hundred dollars that is given to missions to invest light into the darkest places in the world, including the Middle East. What would it look like if the unfinished task became a higher priority so Jesus is glorified? Only then will we be able to see the very thing that is the heart of the Father— that every single person will experience how good God is and how loved they are because they will have an encounter with a god that looks like Jesus.

It’s harvest time. We see in the scripture that when Jesus sent the 72 disciples in Luke 10, He sent them as lambs among wolves. Lambs are known for two things: to follow and fully depend. And that is what we need to be the harvesters in this end times: to hear and obey what the Lord of the harvest says. We are sheep among wolves, but we are the chosen ones to partner with Jesus. It’s harvest time.

This week, we’ll dive deeper into our discussion on the Samaritan Woman. In the previous podcast, we explored how her encounter with Love transformed her identity, liberating her from fear, guilt, and shame.
As she drank from the Living Water, she went from thirsting for Love to becoming a source of Love, enriching her community and city. In this episode, we’ll examine the fruits borne from this transformative encounter and explore how we, too, can be empowered and led by Love within our own spheres of influence, echoing the journey of the Samaritan woman.

We have here a beautiful story of the Samaritan woman who had an encounter with Love. We see her story as a beautiful picture of the true state of humanity, looking for true identity and true love. In this conversation that she had with Jesus, He gave her the open door–an invitation to be the worshiper that the Father is seeking and drink from the Living Water that He offers. What happened to her was that transformation from the woman who was tied up with her broken identity of someone looking for love in all the wrong places to a woman who became a daughter of the Father.
As she was set free from fear, shame, and guilt, she went straight back to the city of Samaria and talked to the men. This is a beautiful story of harvest coming out of and embracing Love and discovering identity.

Everywhere I go, I have people coming up to me asking, “How can I find my spiritual father/mother?” or, “Would you be my spiritual father?” and I have the honor of having Paul Yadao, my spiritual son, with me. We’ve just had a conversation on the topic of what healthy spiritual parenting looks like, and it is going to help you see that the Father has a calling for you to find your tribe, your family, and a place at the family table. And it is in this place where you will find your special sauce and connect with the community of family that will impact cities and nations. I pray this conversation blesses you.

One of the scripture verses in the Bible that has had an incredibly profound meaning to me is John 17:21-26; but especially verse 26. I studied this one verse for 7 years, and it was my focus point. When Jesus said, “Father, Father, I have declared Your Name among them, and I will declare it. That the very love, Father, that You have towards Me, that love is going to be in them, and I in them.” When I first read that, I knew that I had not experienced the fullness of the love that Jesus had with the Father, and I sensed He was praying for me.
So, I started for 7 years to drill into this because I know that’s the only way that the world is going to see Jesus through me. Because who Jesus is to me is who He will be through me, and that is going to happen in one way– that I receive the same love that He had with the Father. That is the only way I am going to love the world the way He loved the world. After 7 years of drilling into that, I want to share some of the gold nuggets that have come out of this journey. it is so precious to me, and it will be precious to you. And when you start to taste it, you will start to see how good He is.

I am living in the city of Atlanta, the place where Coca-Cola was founded in 1892. And I’ve realized that in the last 132 years, this company had a mission, and that was to bring this sweet drink into the hands of every person in the world. I have been in the jungle of Congo. I’ve been with the taxi driver in Pakistan. I have been all over the world, and they know about Coca-Cola but have never heard the name of Jesus. So if it took Coca-Cola less than 150 years to take its product around the world, why is it that after 2,000 years, over 40% of the entire world population still has little to no access to the Gospel, and over 1.7 billion people have never once heard the name of Jesus?
I believe the biggest reason is because we have been distracted. The enemy has distracted us from fulfilling the Great Commission. So the reason there is a lot of darkness is because of a lack of light. And we only spend fifty cents out of every hundred dollars that goes to missions to be able to invest light into the darkest places in the world, including Hamas and those places. What would it look like if this became higher in our priority? If Coca-Cola can do it, we can do it as the Church. Open up your eyes; the harvest is ripe!
