In a turn of events we decided to take a trip to the island of Japan as a theme. What kind of theme could we pluck out of cinema from the land of the rising sun? Would it be films of the samurai? Lightning fast martial arts? How about slow boil romances where everyone acts like they’re taking ketamine off screen? You shall have to see now. First up is Yakuza Apocalypse[2015]. It’s about an apocalypse of yakuza. We start in a small town where the head of the yakuza chapter is a vampire. He gets killed by a gun wielding cosplayer and an angry otaku. But his head bites … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 250: Yakuza Yakuza Yakuza"
This week on Anime Pulse we got busty elf girls, hot anime takes, and Discord problems. Up first the IRL news has Joseph talk about house hunting and Discord AI being really dumb, and Andrew talks about his upcoming trip to Japan. Then in the industry news the latest Demon Slayer movie stole the show at the box offices, and a really dumb person gets hired into the gaming industry. And finally our review has Joseph and Andrew perform the fusion dance while returning from death, who the newest best girl is, and how many more season they can get away with keeping Rem in a coma.
Summer’s coming to a close. Labor day has passed and that means the days are starting to turn. That also means our convention has come and gone. With that in the mirror that alsom means it’s time to review grab bag manga. This ensures that we really get garbage to comb through without effort. Up first is time with Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs. We meet Koragashi, a psychic who punches ghosts as exorcism. He’s been invited to a run down hot spring hotel haunted by Yuuna and occupied by a bunch of monster girls. We should mention this is Seven Seas “Ghost Ship” imprint who’s motto is “we … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 543: Sugar Springs"
This week on Anime Pulse we got beta males, the best wingmen in anime, and chicken of the woods. Up first Joseph took the Omegaverse test to learn his true role in life and found orange mushrooms on the side of the road, and Andrew talks about how he recovered the loss of our previous episode to the void. Then in the industry news we have none! And finally more reviews to end on things with Joseph being forced to solve the problems of a goddess with alchemy, and Andrew leaves a handball team to visit the aquarium.

This week on Anime Pulse we got ramen, retired hitmen, and Andrew forgetting to post the topic question until the last second. Up first Joseph recounts an amazing takeout experience as well as his gaming updates, while Andrew is packing his bags and reserving his seats for his trip to Japan. Then in the industry news we talk about why you should never meet your heroes. And finally the reviews wrap things up with Joseph packing on the pounds after becoming a family man assassin, and Andrew heads to a village of swordsmiths to get a new blade made for beheading demons.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be good at your job? So good that you would be brought out of retirement for one last job? That’s how we ended up slinging space donuts at the Convention of Peace Officers in Chicago six years ago. Was it worth the six dollars an hour and all the mini donuts you can eat? Some people would say no. Those people have never seen the look on a con goers face when you hand them a bag that burns their hand because the contents were in the fryer less than ten seconds ago. First up we have 24 Hours to Live[2017]. Ethan Hawke plays a … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 249: Finest 24 Hours"
This week on VG Pulse, I talk about my first week at my new job!! We start out with side notes, before diving into the regular news where we discuss the strange state of the internet right now, Nintendo continuing to be weird, and we get very confused by a new way to game with your car!! Also, y’know… something something Silksong is finally a real thing… LOL! After the news, we head on off into the discord discussions, and in a shocking turn of events, I give a review of PEAK and Millennium gives a review of Gas Station Simulator!! You know how states have gotten ridiculous about designations of things? Like how every state has a flower, a song, and a flag. We’re going to petition Colorado to make us their official podcast. Just one second as we submit that. Oh, and we’ve already gotten a response. It’s a restraining order preventing us from emailing them ever again. Guess it’s back to pen and paper mail. In the meantime, here’s a pair of manga. Tim has Bakuchi Gui. We join Bull, a kid who works a low level job while having dead parents. He makes a little extra cash selling gambling cheats. His older brother is something of a … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 542: Gui Rai"
This week on Anime Pulse we return from the dead, well, vacations galore as Andrew and Joseph finally make time for another episode. Up first Joseph goes over the goodies he got while in Florida for his Birthday, and Andrew goes over his time attending Versus Fighting. Then in the industry news Japan's postal service will no longer ship to the US, and how Japan is using AI to prepare for Fuji's next eruption. Finally a return to reviews, however short it may be, as Joseph finds a job that offer a 401k, dental, eye care, and 60 days of PTO and all he needs to do is manage a demon lord's army. Andrew meanwhile helps a little girl get over just a tiny bit of bullying, by taking her picture.
“in the mists of the lost time known as the 13th hour of every day where time stops for all men that was gone. But as we know all endings are just beginnings have ends as all ends have beginnings like that of a incomplete circle. That just have completed smaller ones were completed sooner than others. Here we have a tale once thought lost to time is found the great depths lives once more by the power of 2.” —BioMegaBear
We’ve done quite a few Nicolas Cage films so what’s a few more? The question is can we keep finding themes within his filmography as it shrinks while we review it? Can he grow his library faster than we can review it? There’s only one way to find out and that’s to press on boldly. We opted to try and find three films where Cage was a thief or a conman. First up is Stolen[2012]. Cage plays a thief, chalk one up to the easy category. He gets caught doing a bank job and gets separated from his family. Once he gets out, he tries to reconnect with his daughter. … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 248: Stolen Sticks"
This week on VG Pulse, tis the great season of scandals! We start off with side notes of me finally escaping my retail prison and everyones vehicles feeling extra needy, before diving into the regular news where we go through the multitude of major blowouts the industry has experienced over the last month! We go over the latest from the Mastercard/Visa situation, before diving into the newest shitstorm on the block with Roblox! In addition to that, Epic keeps getting W’s in the courts, and people in Japan wasted a lot of McDonalds to get Pokemon cards! After the news, we finish off with talk of movies and anime! All … Continue reading "VG Pulse 422: A Warning, Not a Manual"
Manga Pulse 541: Red God

Manga Pulse 541: Red God

Two boxes of farm fresh reviews. Hand selected, never touched by AI. That’s our promise to you. Those dastardly clankers won’t get their oily mitts on our work. We’ll keep doing this our way because our listeners don’t tolerate stilted voices reading barely sensible scripts cranked out by someone with excess tokens to waste. Tim has Mars Red. It’s set in Japan in the nineteen twenties. There are vampires that are under command of the Japanese government. Their job is to hunt down rogue vampires in the nation and either bring them into the fold or kill them. There are also foreign vampires but we don’t see to many of … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 541: Red God"
This week on Anime Pulse we got the last episode of previews in a special Gattai show, popular anime are passed on, and chicken burgers are shown off. Up first Joseph talks about his experience with the Director's Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Andrew is gauging our cooking skills with what anime foods we think we could recreate. Then in the industry news we got nothing. And finally it's the special Gattai with Joseph trying to avoid bunny girl cosplaying idols in university while a giant death worm eats everyone, and Andrew takes to the skies with cute girls.
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had a solid theme episode around Nicolas Cage. But just grabbing three movies of our patron saint is too easy. The man has a long filmography which makes it way too easy to cherry pick. So we decided to narrow things down and focus on Westerns made with Cage. First up is Gunslingers[2025]. We start off with some atrocious CGI establishing the era and time. Three men get into a fight, one gets burnt and another gets shot. Fast forward to a town called Redemption where retired outlaws all hide out. Mr Burnface shows up looking for his brother. The dead man in … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 247: Butchering Westerns"
This week on Anime Pulse we got horny islands, painful walks, and fighting games. Up first Joseph recounts his journey on Friday of walking 16 miles, and Andrew is still on that fighting game grind after a rank reset. Then in the industry news we have none, don't worry though Andrew will talk about something later on. And finally round four of previews has Joseph escaping from horny women so he can solo camp and make dishes using math, while Andrew rolls some rocks at some pins in the city.
Another manga show, so another pair of manga and a pair of ratings. Just another day in paradise where the manga is always ready to be smacked down or uplifted. You would be wrong though and gloriously so. We actually have three manga today though one dovetails right into the other. Like a box joint of mixed metaphors. Tim has a request in Dragonball. Yes, the manga the really made Akira Toriyama the name he was and this is an omnibus of the first three volumes. If you’ve ever watched the original anime then you’ve seen this origin story. Bulma is hunting dragon balls with her detector and runs, literally, … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 540: Betrayed Balls"
This week on VG Pulse, a lot of things blew up all at once! We start off with side notes of how miserable this summer is, before diving into the multiple fallouts of the last week! Including but not limited to, Ironmouse pulling the pin on the VShojo grenade and igniting a VTuber revolt, Visa and Mastercard pushing for hardcore censorship of media, and multiple platforms trying to force people to hand over their ID and/or face in order to use the internet! After the news we finish off with talk of food and anime! All this and more up next on VGP 421!! Music Intro – Persona 4 reach … Continue reading "VG Pulse 421: Won’t someone please think of the children!!!"
This week on Anime Pulse we got round three of summer previews, another end of a vtubing era, and flat tires. Up first Joseph recounts his time driving home on a flat tire, and Andrew reached High Master. Then in the industry news Vshojo shuts down with plenty of drama, and VISA gets told down by Japan to quit throwing around its weight. And finally the previews get Joseph reincarnated into a land of trash as a water magician who brings the Apocalypse, and Andrew goes swimming in a game center wearing nothing but stockings with a garterbelt.
We have bad news for you, bank teller person. The robbery is coming from inside the bank! Of course robberies usually happen inside a bank if they are bank robberies. Ones conducted outside of them are can be classified as cash in transit heists if the thieves are stealing from the vehicle itself. Important notes if you’re planning on being listed on the FBI’s list of most wanted bank robbers. That way you can say you were on the scoreboard when you’re in federal prison. In that vein Weltall has Inside Man[2006]. The Clive Owen and Denzel Washington movie directed by Spike Lee about a bank heist. Only it’s not … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 246: Want Inside"

Anime Pulse is always a fun listen, I like how they balance reviews with random rants that keep it lively. Manga Pulse feels more casual but still enjoyable. If you enjoy anime and webtoons too, you might also like checking out this site: https://newtoki.com.co/
