Description

EnterpriseSplaining - The podcast where we try to explain Star Trek: Enterprise to each other! We are bewildered by this show. We have questions - so many questions! Join Jamie, Bill, and Maria as they attempt to make sense of this 22-year-old show that represents one of the strangest chapters of Star Trek history.

Haven’t watched or don’t want to watch the show? No problem! At EnterpriseSplaining, we’ll do that work for you! Every week, one of us will watch an episode and explain it to the others - or try to. No Star Trek knowledge is necessary, although it might help? Who knows. This show is weird. Listen along as we try to uncover exactly what this show was trying to accomplish and what it ended up doing. Will this podcast be useful? Probably not! Will it change the world? UNLIKELY! Will they solve all of humanity’s problems through this exercise? ALMOST DEFINITELY NO. But we’ll have fun doing it and that’s really the point.

We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 13 “Dawn,” but only Bill has actually watched the episode. What if Enterprise tried to tackle the greatest TNG ep of all time, “Darmok” and mixed it up with 1985 sci-fi film “Enemy Mine?” And what if it was Trip facing off with the He-Man villain Rattlor! Sounds like a recipe for success! Rikermendations:Jamie: Retro photo app Maria: Art Detectives Bill: The Name of the RoseWe now have merch! We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 12 “The Catwalk,” but only Jamie has actually watched the episode. The entire Enterprise crew has to spend eight days living inside one of the ship's nacelles without showers or a change of clothes, but Archer still somehow manages to find a way to watch his beloved water polo and Malcolm acts like a whiny baby.Rikermendations:Maria: Batman NinjaBill: Wave, Listen to Me!Jamie: Clair Obscur: Exhibition 33We now have merch! We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 10 “Vanishing Point,” but only Maria has actually watched the episode. Watch as Jamie, Bill, and our special guest Kevin try to figure out what the heck is going on in this episode. Is it an alternate universe? A time shift? Or just plain old misogyny? The answer will almost certainly disappoint you. This week, we’re on a second contact mission, revisiting Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 9 “Singularity” now that Jamie and Maria have actually seen it. Three Body Problems!

2025-07-1701:37:31

We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 9 “Singularity,” but only Bill has actually watched the episode. It's the Enterprise version of a three body problem as mysterious radiation coming from a black hole causes the crew to start taking their jobs seriously. Too seriously, in fact, as Hoshi obsesses over a recipe, Trip obsesses over fixing a chair, and Phlox obsesses over cutting Travis's skull open. Can T'Pol convince the crew to, you know, lighten up a bit before they're all dead? We also had a special guest joining us this week, the Noisy Astronomer themself, Nicole Gugliucci. Here’s an actual photo of what a black hole looks like!Rikermendations:Nicole: Terry Pratchett's Discworld booksJamie: Poker Face Maria: Thunderbolts* Bill: Asobe Asobasi Check out our podcast merch at the ESO Network Tee-Public store.EnterpriseSplaining is proud to be part of the ESO Network. Sound assistance by K.O. This week, we’re on a second contact mission, revisiting Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 8 “The Communicator.” Now that Bill and Maria have watched it, we get to hear their thoughts on how Captain Archer messed up getting back a piece of equipment they left on a planet so hard that he managed to start a full-on world war.A word of warning: If you haven’t listened to the episode before this one, “Dude, Where's My Communicator?!,” go listen to that first because this is a follow up to last week. We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 8 “The Communicator,” but only Jamie has actually watched the episode. Malcolm accidently leaves his communicator on a pre-contact planet and attempts to recover it go sideways when Archer, for the first time ever, decides to take advice from T'Pol, which he then misapplies to disastrous consequences for everyone living on that planet. Sure he may have started a world war, but the important thing is that he learned an important lesson about... something. Mission T’Polsible!

We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 7 “The Seventh,” but only Maria has actually watched the episode. T'Pol has some unfinished business with a fugitive she never managed to capture. She asks Archer to join her on the mission, which is good because it starts to trigger memories she didn't know she had. Much like the EnterpriseSplaining crew, who, for weeks after recording this, kept asking "What was that episode about again?"Rikermendations:Bill: The Fall (2006) - movieJamie: The Women (1939) - movieMaria: Carmen Sandiego for Switch - video gameEnterpriseSplaining is proud to be part of the ESO Network. Sound assistance by K.O. Plus, in the first ever Enterprise podcast crossover extravaganza, we are joined by Abby and Chris from the First Flight Podcast. A word of warning: If you haven’t listened to the episode before this one, “The E-Team!,” we recommend listening to that first because this is a follow up to last week. Rikermendations:Abby: Storytime with Wil Wheaton Chris: AndorEnterpriseSplaining is proud to be part of the ESO Network. Sound assistance by K.O. We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 6 “Marauders,” but only Bill has actually watched the episode. In 2001, an unprepared crew was sent to deep space by Starfleet on a mission they were not prepared for. These men (and nearly a third women) promptly escaped orbit. Today, still wanted by multiple alien governments, they survive based on the value of the franchise name. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you're willing to endure war crimes....maybe you can hire the E-Team!Rikermendations:Jamie: Two Point Campus (video game)Maria: Gravity Falls (animated series) and Ludwig Bill: Battle Beyond the Stars (movie)EnterpriseSplaining is proud to be part of the ESO Network. Sound assistance by K.O. This week, we’re on a second contact mission, revisiting Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 5 “A Night in Sickbay,” now that Maria, Bill have watched it. We also have our special guest medical expert Topher back on to chat more about how medical science is portrayed on Star Trek. A word of warning: If you haven’t listened to the episode before this one, “Sickbay Slumber Party!,” go listen to that first because this is a follow up to last week. EnterpriseSplaining is proud to be part of the ESO Network. Sound assistance by K.O. Sickbay Slumber Party!

2025-05-2201:51:33

We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 5 “A Night in Sickbay,” but only Jamie has actually watched the episode. Archer brings his dog to the planet of easily offended people, despite it very obviously being a bad idea, and then has a temper tantrum when asked to apologize. Also, Porthos is sick, there is an escaped bat, and for some reason chainsaws are involved (?!). Plus, we have a special guest, medical expert Topher (Bluesky: @anisotoph), that we get to torture with the medical “science” in this episode. Rikermendations:Maria: Deli Boys (tv show)Bill: My New Boss is Goofy (anime)Topher: The Salvagers series by Alex White (book series)Jamie: Ugly Betty (tv show)EnterpriseSplaining is proud to be part of the ESO Network. Sound assistance by K.O. This week, we’re on a second contact mission, revisiting Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 4 “Dead Stop,” but now Jamie and Bill have watched it. After going through a minefield last episode, the Enterprise and crew aren't in the best of shape. Malcolm has to have Phlox Worm PT and the ship is going to take years to repair. But they find a repair station that is going to solve all their problems and surely nothing at all will go awry...  A word of warning: If you haven’t listened to the episode before this one, “Always Read the Fine Print,” go listen to that first because this is a follow-up to last week.
