Episode 511 / Kwamé Azure GomezKwame Azure Gomez is an artist born in Akron, Ohio who lives and works in New Haven, CT. Kwame has exhibited throughout the US and Europe in venues such as James Cohan Gallery, New Image Art Gallery, SoLA Contemporary, Stony Island Arts Bank, Anthony Gallery, Dada Gallery and others. Kwame recently completed the NXTHVN artist residency in New Haven and received her BFA from the University of Akron and her MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2022 Kwame received the Emerging Artist Grant from New American Paintings. Kwame will be in a group show opening on the 15th called Between Matter & Illumination at Marianne Boesky where she will have her first NYC solo show coming up as well. 

Episode 510 / Nadia WaheedNadia is on with an epic conversation where she talks passionately about painting, being an artist, impending motherhood as so much more. She graduated with a BFA in Painting & Drawing from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015. Episode 509 / Terra KeckTerra Keck is a Brooklyn based artist and performer. She received her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa in 2018, and her BFA in Drawing from Ball State University in 2013. She moved to Brooklyn in the summer of 2018 and works in East Williamsburg. Terra’s work featured in publications such as Hyperallergic, The Art Newspaper, and Oxford American Arts as well as in permanent institutional collections in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Hawaii, and California. She’s had solo shows at Field Projects, Sweet Lorraine, the Honolul Museum of Art amongst other venues and group shows at Maia COntemporary, Here to Sunday, Immaterial Porjects and many others. Terra is a founding member of the international artist collective GRRIC Contemporary, an experimental art space, happening, omnipotence. In 2017 she co-curated the show “Afterschool Special” at the Honolulu Museum of Art and several shows through the GRRIC Contemporary Art Gallery in Honolulu. Terra also co-hosts the comedy podcast “Witch, Yes!” which seeks the humor and humanity of the occult, folklore, and witchcraft in its relationship to history, identity and contemporary politics. 

Ep. 508 / Our annual Year In Review with Brian BoucherSenior Market Reporter, ARTnewsBrian Boucher is an art writer based in New York. His byline has appeared in the New York Times, New York, Garage, Frieze, Sotheby’s Magazine, and CNN. Boucher was formerly senior writer for Artnet News and website editor at Art in America.We sat down for our annual recap on shows, film and music that struck a chord with him this past year. 

Episode 507 / James Walsh James Walsh is an artist who received his BFA from Rutgers in 1976 and his MFA from Syracuse in 1980. He’s had solo shows at Berry Campbell, Galeria Joan Prats, Baker Sponder, the Mendel Art Gallery, Long Fine art, the Edmonton Art Gallery amongst others and group exhibitions at KinoSaito, Helm Contemporary, Flowers Gallery, Sideshow Gallery, Gallery 2 and many others. He’s in the collection of the Edmonton Art Gallery, the Everson Museum of Art, the Mendel Art Gallery and the Portland Museum of Art. Jim currently has a show called Relief in Sight at the Sam and Adele Golden Gallery in New Berlin, New York which is run by the wonderful people at Golden Artist Colors and it’s up through Feb 20th. 

Episode 506 / Ragnar Kjartansson Ragnar Kjartansson is an artist who lives and works in Reykjavik. He engages multiple artistic mediums in his performative practice. The history of film, music, theatre, visual culture and literature find their way into his video installations, durational performances, drawing and painting. Pretending and staging are key tools in Kjartansson’s efforts to convey sincere emotion and offer genuine experiences to audiences. Kjartansson’s work has been exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions and performances at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Barbican Centre, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Reykjavik Art Museum, Palais de Tokyo, and New Museum. 

Episode 505 / Sarah Ann WeberSarah Ann Weber (b. 1988, Chicago, IL) received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and her BFA from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago. Sarah has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions at Anat Ebgi, 12.26, Club Pro, The Franklin, and SOCO Gallery. Her group exhibitions include Stems, MAUVE, Greenpoint Terminal Gallery, Hunter Shaw Fine Art, Galerie Nord/Kunstverein Tiergarten, Locust Projects, and Andrew Rafacz Gallery. Sarah’s work was recently included in a group museum exhibition, Outside: In at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, Jacksonville, FL. In 2023 Weber participated in the Miami-based Fountainhead Artists-in-Residence program. She lives and works in Chicago. She currently has a solo show up at Anat Ebgi in LA.

Episode 504 / Elmer Guevara Elmer Guevara is an artist born and raised in Los Angeles. He received a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Cal State University Long Beach and an MFA in Studio Art from Hunter College in New York City. Elmer’s work has been exhibited domestically and internationally at M&B Gallery, F2T Gallery, Residency Art Gallery, Lyles and King, and Barbati Gallery among others.His work has been covered in publications such as the LA Times and Contemporary Art Review and he is in the collections of Cal State University and the Crocker Art Museum. 

Episode 503 / Ruby Sky StilerRuby Sky Stiler is an artist born in Maine and based in Brooklyn. Episode 502 / Yung JakeYung Jake is an artist & rapper who received his BFA from Cal Arts in 2012. He has had 13 solo exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York, and over 25 group exhibitions in the U.S., China, Finland, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, respectively. Yung Jake is also a musician and directed music videos for Rae Sremmurd and Pusha T. His work has been featured at venues including Sundance, where his videos Datamosh, and E.m-bed.de/d were screened, as well as performances in Los Angeles at the Hammer Museum, REDCAT, MOCA, The Getty Center, and at the Museum of Modern Art. In 2017.His artwork has been shown in numerous art fairs including MiArt, UNTITLED, Miami Beach, Art Brussels, the Seattle Art Fair, the Dallas Art Fair, and Market Art + Design. His first solo museum exhibition titled Cartoons was on view at Guild Hall, East Hampton.

Episode 501 / Christian Rex van Minnen Christian Rex van Minnen was born in Providence, RI in 1980 and received his BA from Regis University, Denver in 2002. He has exhibited throughout the US and internationally, and is represented by Nanzuka Underground, Tokyo, VETA Galeria, Madrid, Ross+Kramer Gallery, NYC, and Richard Heller Gallery, LA.

Episode 499 / Claudia WieserClaudia Wieser is a German artist based in Berlin. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at The Drawing Center, New York; the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis, MO; and Smart Museum, Chicago, IL. Her work has been included in recent group exhibitions at the Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, NY; the Anderson Collection at Stanford University, CA; the Hamburger Bahnhof, Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, Berlin Germany; Asia Culture Center, Gwangju, South Korea; Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans; Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; and Marta Herford Museum for Art, Architecture, Design, Herford, Germany. Wieser’s work included in a number or prominent public collections, such as the Contemporary Art Collection of the Federal Republic of Germany; Collection of the Berlin State Museums, Neue Nationalgalerie, Sammlung Goetz, Munich; Deutsche Bundesbank Kunstsammlung, Frankfurt; Mercedes-Benz Art Collection, Germany; K21-International Contemporary Art Collection of the Kunstsammlung North Rhine-Westfalia; the Anderson Collection, Stanford University, CA; the William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation Collection; and the Louiand Zabludowicz Collection, London. In 2020 she collaborated with Hérmes to design a catwalk for Paris Fashion Week. She recently completed an outdoor installation at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens. Claudia earned an MA in Painting and Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. She lives and works in Berlin. She just opened a solo show at Marianne Boesky gallery. 

Episode 498 / Elena RedmondElena Redmond (b. 1998, Pittsburgh, PA) lives and works in New York City. Redmond presented her first solo exhibition at DIMIN titiled "Sitting Ducks" spring of  2025. Redmond exhibited in DIMIN’s three-person exhibition “Unfeigned Mysteries” in 2024, featured in “A Women’s Thing”. She has mounted solo exhibitions with Long Story Short, Los Angeles (2022); and Tchotchke Gallery, New York (2022). Redmond has participated in group shows at Moosey Gallery, London; Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando; Blouin Division and Arsenal Contemporary, Montreal; Hashimoto Contemporary, Los Angeles; Andrea Festa Fine Art, Rome; and Eve Leibe Gallery, London. Redmond holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI.

Episode 497 / Gretchen AndrewGretchen Andrew is an artist born in Los Angeles, United States, 1988 who lives and Works in London and Park City, Utah. She studied Information Systems and got a BS from Boston College, and worked for Intuit as a Software Engineer, Google as a People Technology Manager, and apprenticed with Billy Childish at his studio.She’s had shows at Gray Area, San Francisco, Heft Gallery, NYC, Hope 93, London. FxHash, Berlin Art Week, Galloire, Dubai UAE,  Falko Alexander, Cologne, Germany, Annka Kultys Gallery, London, United Kingdom and many others.She’s shown at fairs including 2025 Expo Chicago, 2024 Untitled Miami, Paris Photo (21C Award, solo presentation) and the 2022 Vienna Contemporary (solo presentation).She has lectured at the Tate Modern, the Luma Foundation in Zurich, the Mia Foundation in Dubai and the University of Chicago.

Episode 496 / Chad HasegawaChad Hasegawa (B. 1983, Honolulu, Hawaii) is a San Francisco-based artist and a graduate of the San Francisco Academy of Art.Born and raised in Hawaii, Chad moved to SF in 2000 to attend the Academy of Art. Upon graduating, he went on to work for top ad agencies, including Venables, Bell, & Partners and Goodby, Silverstein, & Partners. After leaving advertising to focus on making art, he got his start painting murals in San Francisco and started making paintings in the studio. He’s shown at GCS Agency, Paradigm Gallery, the SF Art Show, Luggage Store Gallery, Heron Arts and many others.  He has a current show up at Good Mother Gallery in LA.

Episode 495 / Jim GaylordJim Gaylord is a New York based artist known for his abstract, sculptural reliefs made from cutout paper. He earned an MFA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of the Berkeley Art Museum, the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum and The Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Joan Mitchell Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. He has completed residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo and the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program. Jim is represented by Sperone Westwater in New York, where his work is currently on view in the group exhibition, "Sperone Westwater: 50 Years." His second solo show with the gallery will open in early 2026. 

Episode 494 / Alexa Kumiko HatanakaAlexa Kumiko Hatanaka is a Japanese-Canadian, queer artist that lives with bipolar condition, all of which sculpts her practice. She works primarily with paper, and uses printmaking, ink drawing and natural dying combined with sewing. She engages with historical paper processes and materials that both require and contribute to a clean environment.  Her adaptations of traditions, in the form of sculpture, large-scale print installations and wearable sculptures, address contemporary questions of climate change, mental health, and survival. Recurring motifs related to landscape, fish, and bodies of water together speak about personal and collective experiences of struggle, resilience, connection and radical joy. Hatanaka’s practice includes a decade of community-engaged projects based in the high Arctic, and collaborative performances that integrate and reinterpret kamiko, garments sewn out of washi (Japanese paper). Hatanaka has exhibited her work at the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, CA), Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto, CA), The British Museum (London, UK), Toronto Biennial of Art (Toronto, CA), Nikkei National Museum (Burnaby, CA), Ino Cho Paper Museum (Kochi, Japan), Kotaro Nukaga (Tokyo, Japan), NADA Miami and NYC, The Wellin Museum (Clinton, USA) and Harper’s Gallery (New York, USA). Recent acquisitions of her work include: Shiga Prefecture Museum, Japan; Material Art and Design Museum, USA, Dallas Art Museum, USA; Wellin Museum, USA and The British Museum, UK. She was a 2025 Black Rock Senegal artist in residence.

Emily Coan / Episode 493Emily Coan (b. 1991 St. Petersburg, Florida) is an artist based in the Hudson Valley, NY. In 2013, she received her BFA in Sculpture from the University of Florida, and moved to New York City as a painter in 2015. Her multilayered, glazed oil paintings deal with themes of femininity & women’s labor set in fairytale-esque environments. Her work has been featured in Interview Magazine, T Magazine, Artnet, Whitewall, Juxtapose, and even Playboy. Emily has recently exhibited in group shows with Victoria Miro (London), The Pond Society (Shanghai), and Sargent’s Daughters (Los Angeles). She was recently an artist in residence at Palazzo Monti (Brescia). Her Spider Silk series began with a solo show at DIMIN (New York) in 2024, with additional works from the series exhibited at NADA New York and Miami (both 2024). The latest installment of the series was presented in solo show Nightshades at Long Story Short, Paris this May. She had a solo booth at Armory this September and is represented by DIMIN gallery.
