I thought the book was a travelogue, but it goes beyond that into intriguing experiences, adventures and keen observations (sometimes philosophical) of the society in India and abroad. The ‘Azadi’ here refers to a woman’s ability to decide for herself without being judged, whether it’s the ability to travel independently across villages, cities, countries, OR, judgments related to her attire or behaviour. Anuradha presents a woman's identity as being determined by autonomy - specifically, self-awareness and self-expression- rather than material items such as clothing, shoes, or handbags. And of course, the adventures from her travels with backpack and couch-surfing keep the reader engaged. The book is written in a simple and easy flowing everyday Hindi. The writer received Sahitya Akademi Award for this novel in 1976. She wrote the novel in response to Romanian philosopher Mircea Eliade's book La Nuit Bengali (titled Bengal Nights in English), which related a fictionalised account of their romance during Eliade's visit to India. Reading this book is a sheer joy ride!I won’t stop at saying it’s an easy read – it’s heartwarming, it’s fun and simple as flowing water, one where you take a dip and don’t want to come out for long! In short, it lives the name “The Easy Life in Kamusari”.The author Shion Miura takes you on a journey, offering an experience akin to that of a newcomer discovering marvels and wonders at every stage. The narrator, Yuki, a confused young man who, initially resistant to being placed in a remote village to study forestry, gradually develops a deep affinity for his new environment. Miura skillfully illustrates the splendour of the changing seasons while also highlighting the challenges and daily hazards inherent to this way of life, all interwoven with incisive wit and humour. किताब घर में इस हफ्ते चर्चा का विषय है दिव्य प्रकाश दुबे की किताब "इब्नेबतूती"। ये कहानी है एक प्रेम कथा जो कई प्रेम कथाओं से मिलकर बनी लगती है, जिनमें माँ बेटे का प्रेम हमेशा केंद्र में रहता है, और बाकी प्रेम कथाएं आस पास चलती रहती हैं, मुख्य कहानी में घुलती मिलती रहती हैं, पुराने रिश्तों को एक नए लेंस से देखा हो जैसे। एक विशेष बात जो पाठक को सोचने को प्रेरित कर दे कि हमारे माता पिता भी कभी युवा रहेंगे होंगे, उन्होंने भी अपनी जवानी में प्रेम किया होगा, उनके भी शौक रहे होंगे। जैसे इस किताब के मुख्य पात्र राघव का ये जानना कि उसकी माँ का भी कभी कोई बॉयफ्रेंड रहा है। और ये बात इस किताब से समर्पण से ही स्पष्ट हो जाती है – “माँ जो कभी बीस बरस की लड़की थी, उसके नाम”। दिव्य प्रकाश की भाषा हमेशा की तरह सहज सरल है, बिल्कुल आम बोलचाल की हिंदी। कई बार बहुत गहरी बातें बड़े कम शब्दों में कह जाते हैं, जिसे कोई पाठक पढ़ के आगे तो बढ़ जाता है, लेकिन फिर रुकता है, पलटकर आता है और सोचता है कि ओ तेरी, लेखक ये क्या कह गए! जैसे ये देखिए - “सुबह की चाय में सुबह रहती थी”, देखने पर कुछ विशेष नहीं, लेकिन सोचें तो बहुत कुछ। तसल्ली की चाय पीने वालों से पूछकर देखिए :-)और किताब का नाम, इब्नेबतूता को तो लोग जानते हैं लेकिन इब्नेबतूती? ये बिल्कुल नया शब्द है जिसका वैसे तो कोई अर्थ नहीं, लेकिन इस किताब को पढ़ने के बाद शायद हम इस शब्द का प्रयोग भी करना शुरू कर दें क्योंकि ये किताब बता देती है कि ये शब्द कहानी के लिए कितना उचित शीर्षक है।My other Hindi poetry podcasts: Bachchan’s Madhushala: https://open.spotify.com/show/3sTh2uvc4Ze9rS2ta8xdQpJal Tarang: ⁠https://open.spotify.com/show/45OWiFomkPFOMNWhjmKld3⁠In this episode of Kitaab Ghar, we are discussing Divya Prakash Dubey's book "Ibnebtooti".
