I never thought I’d see the day that Badger Nation would turn on Barry Alvarez, but after comments he made on his radio show the fan base and media alike are sharing their displeasure with The Don. Is it repressed memories of being scolded by our parents or the fact that he didn’t publicly agree with the #FireFickell movement? Whatever is it it fails to see the point that maybe Barry is right. Why is the Grimes offense a better fit for the Badgers? Why has the transition been smoother than from Chryst to Longo? Let's have a chat about that plus a look into the use of unbalanced formations and a dive into which unit has improved the most for Wisconsin Football and why. It has often been said since Jeff Grimes has been hired that despite the heavy run focus nature of his offense the vertical passing game will be an important component of the system. But what if the roster offers limitations that would hinder a traditional down the field passing game? In ability to create separation? An offensive line who may have problems handling speed on the edge? That's where building a passing game around a very Air Raid concept of vertical AND horizontal stress comes into play. Today we will build a play that uses key aspects of a Grimes attack while putting the defense in a constant state of conflict of assignment. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. Building Coverage

2025-08-1917:54

A lot has been said this off season about the lack of depth, the youth, and the overall questions that is the Wisconsin cornerback room. Outside of All-American candidate Ricardo Hallman the room is young, and inexperienced. The defensive coaching staff's major task is to take advantage of the natural ball skills these young players have and build coverage safeguards in so that these kids won't be left out to dry. Today we take a look at those coverage safeguards and the thought process behind them. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. Borrowing an idea from the Air Raid the Jeff Grimes offense has an emphasis with getting athletes in space. Dynamic athletes likes Trech Kekahuna will be used all over the field and in unique ways that will keep defenses on their toes, and using them in motion creates plays while providing eye candy to set up other aspects of the offense. Today we dissect a play that uses the jet motion to create both an inside and outside stress on the defense allowing both speed to the edge and power at the same time. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. Atticus Bertrams has developed into a solid punter and a big part of his success has to do with the Badgers punt scheme. Today in focus we talk about why punt schemes like the shield and rollout/rugby punt are so effective in modern college football. We'll also take a look at some film and break down how the Badgers run their punt team. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. The 2025 Wisconsin defense has to step up. Step up the play on the field, and step up the pressure if it wants to leave a dismal 2024 season in the rear view mirror. But with questions in the secondary how can the Badgers bring pressure without sacrificing coverage? By scheming their already aggressive players "open" so to speak. Using alignment and post snap movement by the defensive front you can create pressure that might not necessarily get to the QB but will force the offense into a situation that is advantageous for the defense. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. It's time to take a look at the 2025 Wisconsin Badgers, and instead of a traditional preview looking at position groups or storylines we're going back to the core of the Dairy Raid and focusing on the plays and schemes that will make or break this season. Today we are looking at the bread and butter play in the Jeff Grimes offense but with the twist that will help keep it from becoming repetitive. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. t's time for another viewer driven morning walk and talk and it's finally time to address a much asked about topic for the last time: Phil Longo. As a long time supporter I bought in 100% to the hire and also took the L when it didn't work out. And as much as I would like to move on and focus on the new offense and team in general Coach Longo keeps getting brought up. So in response a very detailed reply to the mailbag I wrap up my thoughts on the past and look ahead to the future of the Wisconsin offense. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode. What ever happened to ________? I always liked him he was a great player I just wished they used him more. Depending on your view of the Wisconsin football team that statement could be about any of a number of former Badgers. I'm not saying that the coaching staff didn't know how use talent, but there may have been some players coming through Madison who didn't fit the mold. Their skillset may have been too situational to fit the true all purpose nature the coaching staff was looking for, or maybe they were just ahead of their time. Regardless how we got there let's take a look back at four former Badgers that, with the benefit of modern eyes, might have been used differently and more often had their skills been used "right". They are the underutilized Badgers. πŸ“© If you have any questions for a future mailbag drop them here! https://forms.gle/apPmnHxZhhasBvJv6 πŸŽ₯ **Subscribe** for more on Wisconsin football with analysis from a coach's point of view! πŸ›‘πŸ’¬ πŸ“– Be sure to catch more of my work at: https://dairyraid.substack.com 🎧 Find audio-only versions on your favorite podcasting app, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. πŸ’‘ To support the channel, consider becoming a member on YouTube, Substack, or by visiting https://paypal.me/RMAndersen. 🐦 For additional guidance and insights, follow my updates on Twitter: @thedairyraid #WisconsinFootball #WisconsinBadgers #FootballStrategy #FootballCoaching This is a public episode.
