It's time to reignite the rivalry, as our hosts Jon and Fil return for their biannual check-in to ask the question of all questions, "Are you an Anderson guy, or an Anderson guy?"That's right, folks. With both Wes Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson releasing films this year, you better believe that we are back with a new instalment of ANDERSON vs ANDERSON! This year, Wes Anderson is here with his 12th feature, THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME. This quirky comedy stars Benicio del Toro as a ruthless tycoon, who launches the massive “Phoenician Scheme,” a nation-building infrastructure, but he’s sabotaged by enemies manipulating the bolt market and inflating his costs. Desperate to cover the financial gap, he begs his partners, including his resentful brother, for more funding, while also trying to mend his relationship with his nun daughter (Mia Threapleton) who goes along for the ride. Features fun appearances from Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, and Richard Ayoade. And Wes Anderson's opponent, of course, is Paul Thomas Anderson, who delivered the biggest film of his life with his 10th feature, ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Leonardo DiCaprio takes the lead in this Thomas Pynchon inspired action thriller/stoner comedy, playing Bob: a washed-up revolutionary who lives in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his spirited and self-reliant daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti). When his evil nemesis (Sean Penn) resurfaces and Willa goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her as both father and daughter battle the consequences of their pasts. It's the spectacle of the year, and one of PTA's strongest films he's ever made. And for those looking for links, the boy of the year, Benicio del Toro rip roars his way through this film in a show-stealing performances as Sergio St. Carlos. He's had a few beers, and he's ready to save the revolution!Which film do you think Jon and Film will pick to come out on top, as Anderson and Anderson battle it out once again? What was your favourite of the two?Don't miss ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER showing from 70mm at The Prince Charles Cinema from 26th December. A Good Day to Pod Hard

A Good Day to Pod Hard

2024-12-2503:15:18

It's the final episode of The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, and our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas have been hit with the dreaded writer's block. Tasked with coming up a worthy denouement to the show after nearly six years of antics, Jon and Fil find themselves truly stuck. How can you possibly do a big blow-off meta episode about the fifth and final instalment in the Die Hard franchise, 2013's A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD? Will the boys defeat the burnout in time to deliver an episode worthy enough for our beloved fans? Will they be taunted by familiar voices of the past? Will this be the most meta of meta episodes? And lastly, the question everyone wants to know, will Jon and Fil finally get their coveted Nakatomi Podcast Award? All will be revealed in this epic Series Finale of The Pod Charles Cinceast! Thank you all for listening. Thank you for all your love and support over the years. We love you! Be Kind To Each Other! Farewell.
Before the big finale episode next week, take a look back on a classic Christmas episode of The Pod Charles Cinecast, where hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas fly to Los Angeles for the Nakatomi International Podcast Festival to present a live episode on the 1988 Bruce Willis holiday classic DIE HARD!"WELCOME TO THE PARTY, PAL!" Only one thing can stop them... A group of armed terrorists take over the festival and cause a ton of chaos! Can Jon and Fil stop the terrorists from interrupting the show and record this episode that will surely save Christmas? Tune in to find out.... Expect gunfire, explosions, Hans Gruber impressions, quotes, jokes and plenty of love for this Christmas classic (it is totally a Christmas Movie btw)! It's basically like an old school radioplay mixed with a film podcast!
In this penultimate episode of The Pod Charles Cinecast, your hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas are back with a Brucie Bonus, as we see the return of BRUCE WILLS US – the bonus series where we occasionally dip into the films of Bruce Willis. With Christmas nearly here, we'd figure we'd dip into one of Bruno's most magical movies, that would be a sure-fire holiday classic had it been set in December, DISNEY'S THE KID (2000). Bruce Willis plays a self-absorbed 40-year-old image consultant who is mysteriously confronted by the eight-year-old version of himself (Spencer Breslin), and is forced to confront the traumas of his past to become a better man. The film features a nice supporting cast of Emily Mortimer, Lily Tomlin, Chi McBride and Jean Smart. It's a pretty wholesome family film, that shows a really sweet side to Bruce, but there is a bit of a "time travel" twist that if you think about too much, makes absolutely no sense. Also, deep inside the film contains a pretty strong man going through therapy and confronting his inner child theme; something that didn't get much play back in those days. So of course we loved it. So, even though it's not a Christmas movie, we think it has enough magic to play this time of year. Give it a spin, and meet us on the airwaves for one last normal episode... Next Week is the end, and it will be a doozy. "Aww, somebody call the waahmbulance!"For full listings and tickets visit: princecharlescinema.com  If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review! They say the truth is out there, but what happens when the truth finds you? Curiosity killed the cat. Be careful with your butts, the aliens are in the water now. But some people at some big tech company don't want you to know about that. They made sure of it this time. Enjoy our final broadcast. Just when you think it's safe to endorse a tin foil hat company... Follow the BREADCRUMBS...

In this bonus edition of The Pod Charles Cinecast, we reach the end game of our two ongoing side ventures – BRUCE WILLS US: A Pod Charles Cinecast Brucie Bonus, where we've been looking at some of our favourite films from Bruce Willis every once in a while on the main timeline, and SHYAMALAMANIA, where we've been charting the films of M. Night Shyamalan in special Patreon exclusives.Join hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas, as they head back to Philadelphia to see how their favourite a former football player turn invincible security guard, David Dunn, is doing, after spending the last near 20 years honing his real-life superhero powers. But first, the boys must meet the Beast! That's because in 2016, M. Night delivered, probably, the first ever "stealth sequel" and first ever supervillain origin story in one package with SPLIT. James McAvoy stars as Kevin, a man with dissociative identity disorder who kidnaps and imprisons three teenage girls (one of which is Anya Taylor-Joy) in an isolated underground facility. The film might have pissed off some people in the mental health community, but it marked a true return to form for M. Night, where he captivated audiences with a truly gripping story, featuring McAvoy in one of his career best performances. Then, M. Night shattered our brains by placing a Bruce Willis as David Dunn cameo at the end of this what felt like a standalone story, making it part two in the Unbreakable Universe aka the Eastrail 177 Trilogy. M. Night would follow up with GLASS in 2019, bringing back David Dunn (Willis), who is on the lookout for a super strong man known as the Beast (McAvoy). After their initial encounter, both men are arrested and sent to a psychiatric hospital, where a doctor (Sarah Paulson) attempts to convince them their "powers" are just in their heads. However, Elijah Price aka Mr. Glass, the returning Samuel L. Jackson, is also a patient in this facility, and has other plans for his superhero brethren. We end where we began with this double episode, and as always there is some clunky writing, bad acting, a few silly twists, with a pinch of Biblical references and potential allusions to M. Night's career – all the ingredients that make an M. Night film great.  "This was an origin story the whole time." If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review! It really helps us out! This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas are back with PCC Barman, PR team member, and San Francisco aficionado Robbie, to talk about one of the most insane action-thrillers from the 90s, RICOCHET! Starring Denzel Washington, John Lithgow, and Ice T, written by Steven E. de Souza, produced by Joel Silver and directed by Highlander director Russell Mulcahy, there couldn't be a better recipe for a hit, right? Right?!! Denzel stars as Nick Styles, a rookie cop, who sends Earl Blake (Lithgow), a psychotic hitman, to prison. Years later, Blake escapes prison with a well-calculated plan to seek revenge on Styles. This plan includes framing Styles with embezzlement of public funds, theft of pledge drive donations, and CP — before pumping him full of heroin and cocaine, giving him the clap, and framing him for murder. Seriously! What else can we say? It's a bat shit insane movie, that is only believed by seeing! And you should definitely see it! "I'm gonna do something far worse than kill you. I'm gonna let you live." For full listings and tickets visit: princecharlescinema.com  If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review! It really helps us out! The heat is on. We are too close to the truth. Maybe it's the UFO Universe Magazines we've been reading, but we are pretty sure we are being followed. The truth is out there, and someone doesn't want us to find it. Be careful with who may be following you. And for the love of god, if an alien gives you a gift, make sure it's an ashtray. That's the only way you'll be believed... Follow the BREADCRUMBS...

Night Shyamalan in special Patreon exclusive episodes. Join hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas, as they skip past a couple of the dregs of M. Night's career and into what is widely regarded as the beginning of the comeback of the director's storied career, with the 2015 found footage horror/thriller THE VISIT.The film following two kids who travel to the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania to visit their grandparents for the first time, and things start to get a bit weird. With a super low budget, a production partner in Jason Blum's Blumhouse Pictures and an interesting idea, M. Night somehow squeaks out a fun little found footage film that doesn't have too many of his tropes we have come to know and love. Sit back and think of those glory days of visiting your grandparents and one of them shoved their dirty nappy into your face. What happened to M. Night as a kid???? Podcast With The Vampire

2024-10-0901:18:45

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas present a special spooky treat in celebration of HorrOctober at The PCC, with Neil Jordan's adaptation of Anne Rice's queer-coded vampire novel, INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. Join us, as we dive into vampire lore, powers, and the homoeroticism of Rice's Vampire Chronicles, as well as how weird the casting of Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are in this film. Plus, there is lots of love to the insanely talented Kirsten Dunst, who at the age of 10 knocked it out of the park with her role as an ageing vampire trapped in a child's body. And for an added HorrOctober bonus, Jonathan took to the field, risking life and limb, to have an Interview with a Real Life Vampire. Don't miss the exclusive interview and all the usual shenanigans you've come to expect from this podcast...  "Don't be afraid. I'm going to give you the choice I never had." Does this cause you to spiral out of control thinking the most irrational thoughts about yourself and that everyone hates you? No? Well, it must be nice being so well-adjusted... This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas finally complete their epic journey through the epic trilogy that is Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY! After assembling a fellowship, a few grand battles, and a hell of a lot of walking, it all comes to a climax, as we cover THE RETURN OF THE KING. We're treated to the original endgame, with all the hallmarks of a modern blockbuster – a huge battle that brings together all the key players, a girl power sequence, lesser than characters getting their moment in the sun, friendships being tested, treachery, the main hero overcoming his biggest test and the big baddie being defeated. And there are 8 million endings! Is this the greatest trilogy of all time? Sound off in the comments on Spotify or leave a review on Apple Podcast to let us know your favourite Trilogy, and join us as we return with The Return of the King in September. "Come on, Mr. Frodo. In this bonus edition of The Pod Charles Cinecast, we once again enter SHYAMALAMANIA, where we are charting the films of M. Night Shyamalan in special Patreon exclusive episodes. Join hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas, as they embark on a brand-new journey with M. Night, as he takes us to a pop concert where a father must do all he can to escape the show. Not because the music is terrible (I mean it's M. Night's daughter, so it's good right?). No, it's because he is secretly a serial killer and the police have the venue surrounded in hopes to catch him. That's not a twist or spoiler. M. Night have that away in the trailer. Shyamalan's latest feature, TRAP? Tune in to find out. It's a super silly time, with a whole lot of nepotism, and not enough Kid Cudi. But it's M. Night's world, and we are just trapped in it! "You know the Butcher? That freakin' nutjob that goes around just chopping people up? Well, the feds or whatever heard that he's gonna be here today, so they set up a trap for him. This whole concert? It's a trap."
What does it take to be a Master Shredder? We ain't talking about the villain from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles either. We're talking the likes of guitar wizards Steven Seagal and Corey Feldman, who continue to shock the world with Reddit AMAs and mind-shattering guitar solos that can only be verified for authenticity by Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst. Hide your dogs, because with these shredders are on the loose, no pup is safe! Follow the BREADCRUMBS...
