Description

America, we gotta get back to doing what's expected of us as free citizens in this democracy. That means being tolerant, being respectful, staying informed, and being engaged. I'm former Congressman Joe Walsh. Follow me here and join the millions of Americans who are renewing their social contract with each other. The social contract. It's on us.

Performer cancellations at the Kennedy Center continue to pile up. Now the entire New Year’s Eve show has been canceled. All because Trump illegally put his name on the Center. And Trump and his sycophants are complaining about it. Tough luck. This is the market and the resistance at work. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
By now, everyone should acknowledge the truth. Donald Trump is on Russia’s side. He works for Putin. As mind boggling as that is to acknowledge, we must acknowledge it so we fully understand what we’re dealing with. The leader of the free world is not on the side of the free world. He’s taking his marching orders from Putin. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We’re Not Okay

We’re Not Okay

2025-12-2643:16

I don’t care what your politics are, I don’t care if you’re MAGA right, far left, or somewhere in between. Darn near every American knows America isn’t okay right not. We’re just not. Something is wrong. We’re not okay. And if we want to stay together as a nation, we need to figure out why we’re not okay. And then figure out how to fix it.Listen to Man, I'm Not OK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6Rmd8TPToM Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It’s so easy to just yell about Trump every day. It’s too easy. And damn near everyone does it. But Trump is the product of a broken political system. And we need big reform to fix our broken political system. Political scientist Lee Drutman has put forward one such big reform. And we discussed it. Have a listen. Hosted on Acast. Another man dies in ICE custody. And he never should have been in ICE custody. Here legally for 30yrs, business owner and ICE grabbed him. Also, JD Vance yesterday continued the GOP’s daily assault on the very principles this country was founded upon. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I sat down this week with Corey Nathan, host of the podcast “Talkin Politics & Religion Without Killin Each Other.” How to engage? Who to engage with and not engage with? Is any of this making a difference? Nice conversation here with Corey. Have a listen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Yes, Trump’s speech last night was 18 minutes of an angry old man yelling at us, lying to us, and trying to cover his ass. Yes, it was laughable. But that old man had been elected twice, and it’s up to all of us to, after we laugh at him, keep our heads down to do what we have to do to win in 2026. Because he and his people work everyday to try to cheat in the midterms. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I sat down with media and political historian Brian Rosenwald to discuss what this political moment in America means right now, what we can learn from history, and what is the future of both of our political parties. Fascinating conversation. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I’ve said it often, but the beauty of Trump is that because he’s so bad, and so horrible, he’s forcing Americans to decide in real time what kind of country we want to be. And because Trump is utterly void of personal character, he’s forcing the American people to answer this question: Does character matter anymore? Well, does it? How we answer that question will had profound impact on our democracy. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Rob Reiner & his wife are stabbed to death by their adult son who has a long history of drug & mental issues, and Trump blames “Trump derangement syndrome for their killings. Also, an update on Paxis, our “know your rights” tool for immigrants targeted by ICE. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It’s too easy to say - Trump is finished, he’s a loser, he’s a lame duck, his cultish party is finally going to stand up to him. It’s all too easy to say, and we’ve been here too many times before. Trump, as long as he’s breathing, will be the leader of the Republican Party. And to win, Democrats must not hope Trump finally fades. Democrats must BEAT him. Hosted on Acast. Mike and I dive headfirst into the madness — from finally catching the D.C. pipe bomber to wondering whether Donald Trump will reward yet another January 6th true believer with a pardon. We tear into the Cuellar pardon, Pete Hegseth’s never-ending circus at the Pentagon, and a House GOP so dysfunctional it makes my old Congress look sane. Buckle up — it’s a hell of a Friday, and you know I’m bringing the piss and vinegar. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I sat down with Army veteran and extremism investigator Kristofer Goldsmith for a urgent conversation about the rise of right-wing extremism in America. Goldsmith details his years infiltrating neo-Nazi groups, the growing influence of Christian nationalism, and the dangers emerging inside U.S. institutions—including the military and ICE. It's a great conversation about what it will take to confront fascism and why going on offense is now essential to protecting democracy. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We launched PAXIS yesterday as the answer to the cruelty and lawlessness of ICE. In our first 24 hours, we raised over $7,000 to launch this new AI-powered, know-your-rights tool for immigrants (and citizens!) facing down ICE. We did it with no media outreach, no massive PR campaign, no big donors—just me talking to you, and you responding. Why? Because Trump can’t stop hundreds of thousands or even millions of us. Be a part of PAXIS. www.paxis.app Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
These immigrants had done everything the right way, and gone thru the process legally, and were in line to go thru the final ceremony to become U.S. citizens, and they were grabbed and taken out of line. Because of the countries they came from. Horrible. But the only way we stop the cruel immigration enforcement going on right now is to all stand together, stay informed, and know what our rights are. This is how we defeat ICE. And the tool to do it is called PAXIS. www.paxis.app Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
I sat down with long time political strategist Steve Schmidt to discuss this political moment, what Democrats need to do to meet this moment, and if they meet the moment and take back the House or the Senate, what they must do once they’re back in power. Fascinating chat. Have a listen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Two days ago, Trump unleashed the ugliest, most bigoted stuff about brown and black immigrants. About Somalian-Americans. And his entire cabinet just sat there and nodded. Yesterday, he unleashed even uglier stuff about Somalian-Americans. And the Congress people and business executives just stood there and nodded. Silence is complicity. The entire Republican Party owns his racism, bigotry, and cruelty. So every election for the foreseeable future must be about him. Period. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Democratic Party needs to learn to back candidates who can win. And a Democrat who can win in NYC is not a Democrat who can win in Alabama. I sat down with Kyle Sweetser, who, like me, is a new Democrat and is running for the U.S. Senate from Alabama. He’s the perfect candidate for that state. Hosted on Acast. Carville has been completely out of touch this whole year. He thinks too much like corporate establishment Dems, and that's not the direction the party is taking. The election of Zohran was pretty clear evidence that nobody wants moderate, AIPAC-beholden Dems anymore. Carville is a dying breed. He was SO wrong about how Dems should just play dead & let the GOP party screw themselves. Only when Dems strategically fight back does the party have a productive pulse.

I live in SE Minnesota in Rochester, home of Mayo Clinic. There's a significant Somali population here. They are hard-working, family-oriented and as law-abiding as the generic population. My city is NOT a shit-hole. Minnesota has NOT been destroyed. It remains my favorite quadi-Scavndanavvian republic. Trump's performance in the Oval Office was truly horrifying and RACIST AS FUCK. I am the son of an Indian immigrant si,ply awaiting my turn in the barrel.

John's loud-mouthed belligerence is designed to disguise the weakness of his positions. I would never be able to keep this kind of conversation going.

Thanks for -how rare!- a respectful and meaningful discussion on Israel/Palestine. David tackles very difficult questions in an astute and fair way.

So racism is wrong, but racist trolling is fine. And condemning anything at all is just virtue signalling, except condemning a defensive war. Exasperating, just listening to all this. I admire Joe's stamina, doggedly driving this conversation.

I thought it kind of funny - Derek spent equivalent amounts of time obsessing about Bill Kristol to the time he spent objecting to folks obsessing about Trump!
