The Cardiac Cats did it again! Down by 17-plus in back-to-back true road games, Kentucky stormed back to first beat LSU in Baton Rouge, then Tennessee in Knoxville for Mark Pope’s first three-game winning streak in the SEC regular season as head coach. Crazy, right? Against the Tigers, it was all about Malachi Moreno’s buzzer-beater — one we’ll all be talking about for years to come, fighting back from down 18 to pull off a miracle. Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen gave the Cats life in the second half and the Georgetown native closed it out. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Kentucky‘s backcourt now has a Jaland Lowe-sized hole for the rest of the year as PG1 will undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder. What’s next for the Wildcats, particularly in his absence? There was a lot to like about the performance against Mississippi State — even with Lowe out for most of the game. Is it sustainable? What do we think of Jasper Johnson stepping up in that spot? Will he step up in that spot, starting as soon as LSU on Wednesday? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Missouri was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Kentucky, a nightmarish season for Mark Pope and the Wildcats that doesn’t appear to be getting better anytime soon. How do you give up a 15-2 run to end the game and choke away an eight-point lead in the final segment to earn a Quad 3 loss? Unfortunately, that’s what we have to talk about tonight on Sources Say. The irony is we talked about this result as something we wouldn’t even address, knowing what it means in a truly must-win scenario for a program struggling to keep its head above water. We joked that falling to the Tigers would mean NCAA Tournament chances take a serious hit with no obvious path to fixing things — because if you lose to Mizzou at home, why wouldn’t you lose to all of the other comparable mediocre competition on the schedule? This was thought to be a winning stretch where you could build some momentum. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Things did NOT go well for the Kentucky Wildcats in Tuscaloosa, getting blown out once again at Alabama in a game that was never really close — even at full strength with Jaland Lowe and Jayden Quaintance out there. What went wrong and how is it fixed with a winnable run of games coming up? What’s the deal with the weirdness from Mark Pope (plus the opposite from Nate Oats, who wasn’t shy about the subtle jabs after the fact)? Don’t forget about the revealing media opportunity featuring Mo Dioubate and Jaland Lowe going into the Missouri matchup this week… Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Happy New Year’s Eve, Big Blue Nation! We know you have big plans tonight to ring in 2026, but how about a new edition of Sources Say to help pass the time until the ball drops at midnight? That’s at 12 AM, so how about rolling with, say, 12 PM ET for this one? We’ve got plenty to talk about, obviously, with Kentucky finishing 2025 on a high note winning four straight — including two against name-brand competition, finally — and the debut of Jayden Quaintance. Is it enough to have you feeling good going into SEC play in January? Is this the Final Four contender we all thought it’d be when the season started? How about some New Year’s Resolutions for the Wildcats to ensure a return to Indianapolis this postseason? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Sources Say has some crow to eat, and they’re bringing in a heavy-hitter to prepare some of it in the form of Michael Moreno — former Eastern Kentucky basketball star and brother of current Wildcat, Malachi Moreno. Where did things go wrong to start the season and how did this team climb out of rock bottom to pull off back-to-back wins vs. Indiana and St. John’s before Christmas? There is still work to do, obviously, but just how many of the problems are fixed? Is it simply an identity shift? Or the availability of both Jaland Lowe and Jayden Quaintance? Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving, Big Blue Nation! Kentucky is coming off back-to-back wins over Loyola (Md.) and Tennessee Tech — impressive efforts for the Wildcats leading to massive blowouts — but all eyes are on the week ahead with a pair of ranked opportunities waiting after a disappointing start to the year in such matchups at Louisville and in the Champions Classic vs. Michigan State. What went well for the Cats against the Greyhounds and Golden Eagles? Is any of it sustainable, especially with the new-look starting lineup featuring Kam Williams and Malachi Moreno? Will Otega Oweh be able to step up on the big stage for the first time this season? How do you shut down former UK target Caleb Wilson? Vibes couldn’t be higher in Lexington, Kentucky steamrolling Florida in football after steamrolling Valparaiso in basketball — with women’s basketball, volleyball and men’s soccer still to come on this glorious Sunday. It’s a great weekend to be a Wildcat, but for now, we’re going to focus on the fun on the hardwood with Sources Say, recapping that Friday win at Rupp Arena and what it means ahead of the trip to Louisville to take on the Cardinals on Tuesday. How are we feeling ahead of the rivalry matchup? UK is now No. 1 in the latest KenPom rankings — and that’s a sign that the Cats can be a legitimate Final Four team. We talk about all of that, plus the latest on Christian Collins and Pope’s push to secure his commitment (and if it means anything for Tyran Stokes). What a start for the Cats, eh? We talked about this team as a legitimate championship contender all offseason, and Kentucky backed up that chatter by mopping the floor with No. 1 Purdue in the exhibition opener. It didn’t count for anything, but as far as measuring sticks go, they don’t get much better — especially down your All-SEC point guard and a potential top-five draft pick. As dumb Boilermaker fans continue to yap about how much it doesn’t matter and how much Big Blue Nation is apparently obsessing over the win, though, we’ll move on to a Georgetown preview to talk UK’s exhibition finale on Thursday. Can the Wildcats take care of business in the same way before transitioning to regular season action? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. What a time to be alive! It’s No. 9 Kentucky vs. No. 1 Purdue to open the 2025-26 college basketball season inside Rupp Arena and there is truly nothing better. Sources Say is BACK to break down the Cats taking on the Boilermakers in what is certain to be the best exhibition battle of all time. But first, what’s the deal with Jaland Lowe? He went down with a shoulder injury in the Blue-White Game and his status is in question for Friday. When will he be back? What kind of loss is it in the meantime and who will need to step up? We talk about that, plus all of the good, bad and ugly that came elsewhere in the intrasquad scrimmage. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
