We'll discuss the impact on the defense, the team, and what happens next for the program. White Out recruiting recapWe discussed the White Out list for over a month on the Recruiting Show, heading into the biggest game of the team's home schedule. What does the Penn State offense need to do to get on track? What do we expect from the team on that side of the ball? We'll break down the adjustments and expectations for the Lions out in LA this weekend. Finally, we'll detail what UCLA can do on offense and how the team can manage to execute a strong defensive game plan without Rojas on the field. Blue White Illustrated learned on Wednesday that starting linebacker Tony Rojas suffered a long-term injury and will be out for the foreseeable future. The defense was already paper-thin at linebacker, with only Rojas, Amare Campbell, and veteran Dom DeLuca seeing snaps with the starting unit. Last week against the Ducks, DeLuca only played eight defensive snaps, while Rojas played 70 and Campbell played 75 of the 80 total snaps on defense. We discuss what the next steps are for the Penn State defense under Jim Knowles and discuss how important Rojas was to the scheme. We'll highlight the next players up and what the team can do from here. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3BREAKING: Penn State Linebacker Tony Rojas Suffers Long Term Injury | Fallout Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Yet with all of that, including another game looming the horizon, we're spending another day talking about the Penn State offense and how the team can right the ship on today's BWI Live Show. The LA Times reported last night that offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri has parted ways with the program, and Jerry Neuheisel will take over as playcaller. How does this affect Penn State's game plan for the Bruins? What could change in such a short order? We'll discuss the impact of such a move on this weekend's game. Penn State offensive fixes During Monday's press conference, Penn State head coach James Franklin fielded multiple questions about how his offense has performed and what it might need to do in order to change the narrative around the program. Today, we'll utilize some of that information, along with our own research into the offensive output, and propose some short-term and long-term solutions that can help reignite the Lions' offensive productivity. We'll look at the run game and how the team can reorganize its ground attack. However, the bulk of our time will be spent examining the Penn State passing attack and how the team can improve its ineffective aerial offense. Despite the anger and concern, there might be some quick fixes that could spell a positive outcome for the program's top quarterback, Drew Allar. Then, we'll examine some longer-term changes to the offense that may take time but would be worth considering. Best Bets and UCLA Preview Finally, we'll look at the game from a prognostication standpoint and discuss Penn State's over-under in this week's Best Bets segment. We'll end the show discussing UCLA's offense and defense as we've seen it to give fans an expectation of how this weekend should go. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Emotions were high in the White Out, and the fallout of another big game loss is fueling the deepening frustration between a growing section of the fanbase and its team. Your home for Penn State football is Blue White Illustrated! Penn State vs Oregon recap Most of today's show, as it has for the first month of the season, will deal with the Penn State offense. This time, we're recapping the team's loss to Oregon and spending most of the show's first half discussing the three points and 109 yards the team gained before the fourth quarter. What's wrong with that side of the ball? We'll give our thoughts on what happened and where the blame should fall after the loss. Of course, some fans are unhappy with the 400+yards the defense gave up on Saturday, despite holding Oregon to just three points through halftime and 17 points through regulation. We'll discuss how the defense performed and what they need to do to play a stingier brand of football. Between the LinesAfter we give our reaction to the game, we'll turn our attention to Franklin's comments during his Monday press conference. How does the team bounce back and make adjustments? How hard are those adjustments to make? We'll share Franklin's thoughts with you and then provide an interpretation of his words. Fitz's recruiting update Finally, we'll give a quick recap of the recruiting news from this past weekend. Over 100 recruits attended the game and experienced one of the best atmospheres in college football. How did the overall presentation and game go over with the team's top targets? We'll discuss that in Fitz's Recruiting Update. Want to discuss something that we didn't mention today? Join the live show at 10 a.m. on The Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. Penn State struggle on offense in another big game The Penn State offense failed to show up in another big game. The team gained just 69 yards in the first half and scored a field goal early in the game. Unsurprinsgly, the offense was poor on third down again tonight, going only 4-11 (36%) through the third quarter. The offense woke up late, with a 34-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Drew Allar to receiver Devonte Ross. Penn State had the ball with four minutes left in the game down seven points, but the offense failed to punch the end zone to tie the game up. Defense plays a warrior's game With the offense struggling, the Nittnay Lions defense was able to keep the team in the game against an explosive and dangerous Oregon offense. Penn State gave up yards, but kept a lid on Dakorien Moore and Dante Moore, the talented duo at receiver and quarterback for Oregon. Linebaker Amare Campbell and safety Zakee Wheatley led the team in tackles and plays throughout the game, but wore down late, giving up two touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to give up an insurmountable lead. More Postgame coverage: Of course, you'll also likely want to know what Penn State head coach James Franklin had to say after the game. We'll have his full press conference comments on our YouTube Channel following the loss. Penn State recruiting news update It was a black week for several schools, as Virginia Tech head coach and former Penn State defensive coordiantor Brent Pry and UCLA head coach Deshaun Foster were fired by their schools. With the changes in NCAA rules, the gates are now open for the players on those rosters to enter the transfer portal. What does this mean for Penn State and its roster? Fitz and Snyder will discuss the potential opportunities for adding players and how that process works in the current landscape. Next, we'll discuss the most important visitor from last weekend's win over Villanova. Five-star running back Kemon Spell was supposed to join the program for the game against FIU the week before but an ankle injury prevented him from making the trip. Instead, Spell made the trip to Happy Valley last weekend. We'll discuss what it means for the team to get its top recruit for 2027 back on campus two weekends in a row. Nonconference recruiting recapAfter that, we'll transition into discussing how the first three games of the season went for the team's recruiting efforts. Coaches on the road and the Rivals 300 update Finally, we'll discuss the recruiting plan for the team this weekend. After roughly a month of high school games, which players are moving up and down the Rivals 300? Snyder outlines the biggest movers on the list. Most indications are that this would be a good place to be. Yet why are there alarm bells ringing and fire alarms going off inside the Penn State fan base? Today on the BWI Live Show, we'll discuss the 52-6 win over Villanova. Then, we will discuss how the team has played through the first three games of the season to try to understand why it feels like an uncomfortable and uneasy undefeated start. As always, you can join the show live at 10 am on YouTube to be part of the conversation. Penn State vs Villanova recapMost of today's show will be dedicated to recapping the game against Villanova and how the team played against the FCS in-state program. Why did the offense struggle to find its rhythm again? What were the challenges that 'Nova presented to the offense? We'll discuss our thoughts on the game, focusing on both the offense and defense. Next, we'll transition to the broader picture of the program's operation in the first three weeks of this year. It's fair to say that Penn State's offensive stars, Drew Allar and Nick Singleton, have not been playing like stars. Is there a reason why? We'll give our thoughts on what we've learned about the program and what Franklin has said this month that has informed our opinions. We'll also look at the Penn State defense and what we've learned about that side's progress through the first month of the calendar to assess if they're ready to take on Oregon next weekend in the White Out Game. Finally, we'll preview open practice, which is tonight at 5 pm. What do we think we'll see at practice? We'll discuss the team's plans for the next steps in recruiting and why the team is working today instead of on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions offense once again looked uncomfortable against FCS Villanova. Join the BWI Live Labatt Postgame Show to discuss the win and what you thought of the game and the team's performance through three games. We'll be taking your questions and comments throughout the sixty-minute show. Penn State puts up 21 points in the first halfOnce again, the Penn State offense failed to look crisp and effective in the first half of the game. Quarterback Drew Allar had a 50% completion percentage and only 80 yards passing in the second quarter. Much of that came at the two-minute warning when he found receiver Trebor Pena on a 21-yard touchdown strike to cap the team's two-minute drive. The run game also struggled to blow away the crowd. Nick Singleton led the team with 20 carries before the backups came in for the fourth quarter. He rushed for 84 yards but failed to rip off long runs or break tackles. However, he did find the end zone twice. The offense focused on the receivers early, with Pena leading the squad, tallying 60 yards on four catches, including seven targets. However, the big plays once again came from the tight ends. Luke Reynolds ripped off a 22-yard catch and run and caught four catches for 73 yards and a score. Defense gives the Nittany Lions breathing room on offenseOn the flip side, the Penn State defense was the dominant force that fans wanted from the team. They allowed just six yards in the first quarter and amassed 45 of their 69 yards in the first half on one 45-yard drive that ended in a missed field goal. The starting defense allowed just three drives that didn't result in a three-and-out. The linebackers were once again heavily involved in the action. Amare Campbell had three tackles for a loss, and Tony Rojas had two to lead the team. Both players were the leading tacklers with 5 and 7, respectively. The duo also tallied three combined sacks, thanks to suffocating coverage. The team used both to spy the Villanova quarterbacks, resulting in late-down pressures. What's next for the team?Penn State enters its first bye week of the season and seems to have gone through the first three games with no major injuries to starters in game action. The team will need to sharpen its play on offense because top-five Oregon comes to town on Sept. 27 for the annual White Out game. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.com Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Penn State vs Villanova Postgame Show: Offense Still Uneven in Blowout Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. It will likely be a slow recruiting weekend with an FCS team in town, but recruiting is about to heat up. The team goes on a bye following the game, which means the coaches will be hitting the road to recruit for a few days before returning to prepare for Oregon in the 2025 White Out Game. Today, we'll do an early preview of the coming weeks, plus discuss Wednesday night practice, and preview the game on Saturday. After the game against Villanova, Penn State enters its first bye week of the season. Typically on bye weeks, the coaching staff hits the road for a few days before coming back to Happy Valley to prepare for the next game. We'll preview how that process works, and what fans should expect from the next week in terms of recruiting news and visits. Is it too early to start talking about flip targets? Fitz will discuss how the process works. From there, the team hosts Oregon in the White Out for one of the most anticipated games at Beaver Stadium in quite some time. Over 60 recruits are already confirmed for the event and we'll do a quick preview of the players that stand out from the crowded list of high school stars. Villanova game preview Finally, the team still needs to win against Villanova on Saturday. Yet after two games that didn't feel as dominant as they might have, will Penn State surge past the Wildcats in the final non-conference game? We'll discuss the game and the areas where Penn State can grow and learn from the schematic tendencies that Villanova presents to them. Penn State struggles to get into the end zone The Penn State offense put together 26 plays in its first three drives spanning the first and second quarters. That resulted in just seven points thanks to the team's decision to go for it on fourth down on the first and third drives, resulting in a turnover. While the team moved the ball, they once again struggled to hit big plays in the run or passing game. Allar underthrew a deep pass to Devonte Ross , which resulted in a pass interference call, and running back Nick Singleton had several big runs of ten-plus yards, but failed to convert several opportunities into explosive play touchdowns. Finally, Drew Allar hit Ross on a 42-yard touchdown pass into contested coverage. to put Penn State up by three scores. Defense pitches a shutout On the other side, the Penn State defense wasn't perfect, but they did pitch a shutout, allowing the offense time to grind out yards and touchdowns. Keyone Jenkins kept the team in the game with timely passing plays and conversions, including two fourth downs. Running back Kejon Owens also averaged over five yards per carry throughout the game, with a long of 21 yards.
