Check out my interview with Thomas Jackson to hear 6 of the reasons to go vegan.Veganism is the interconnectedness of health, loving animals, and being kind to nature.Dr. Melanie Joy coined the term CARNISM, which is the deeply conditioned and invisible belief system that says it's okay to eat certain animals. We don't question carnism, we just follow it.With cognitive dissonance, we can change behaviors or compartmentalize so we don't feel out of alignment with our values.Being true to oneself as a vegan doesn't mean it's one's responsibility to change other people.Practices to stay grounded: include yourself in the self-care circle, have a morning routine of meditation, journaling, exercise, prayer, and affirmations, limit exposure to traumatizing contentBenefits of veganism include: lightness, being in touch with intuition, compassion, improved moodAngela's favorite vegan foods: veggie burgers, soups, curries, veggie lasagna, and vegan crabcakes**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for generalinformational purposes only. You can still offset negative side effects of meds with a healthy lifestyle. Do your research before accepting whatever a doctor says.RESTED RICH FACE is a marketing ploy to get you to buy unnecessary products. Don't eat cheese, drink alcohol, or smoke, and instead get the glow easily and cheaply with plant-based nutrition.Simple, clean, and plant-based means greens, juicing, no microwave, no ultra-processed packaged foods, herbal teas, non-toxic beauty products, and detoxing. It's okay to question authority, trust your gut, and verify for yourself. That fact that your ancestors ate meat and lived long, healthy lives is not an indication that you should eat that way. Today's food system is different, our lifestyle is different, stress is different, plus there's tech, emfs, and chemicals that our ancestors didn't have.Cows don't just product milk. Any success he achieved was short-lived as the weight came pouring back on and then some. At his heaviest, he was eating 10,000 calories every day.Out of desperation, he decided to have weight loss surgery in 2009. Prior to the procedure he was convinced that it would become like all the other failed attempts to lose weight. Chuck was just 27 years old at the time and didn’t believe he would live to see 30. He thought at least he would go to his grave saying he tried everything. But then the unexpected happened. He woke up from the surgery and never looked back.Although a critical component, the procedure proved only to be the first step in his journey. In fact, he only attributes 10 percent of his long-term weight loss success to it. The rest he credits to a plant-based diet and changing his lifestyle!By adopting a plant-based diet, he is no longer afraid of regaining the weight as he had so many times before — no more yo-yo dieting! He is thrilled that he is lowering his risk of cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease, both of which run rampant in his family. As a bonus, he is no longer spending massive amounts of money on medical expenses because of his optimum health! The confidence he gained from the weight loss enabled him to pursue his dream of becoming a reporter where he covered sports and news for CBS and later NBC News Radio. He was also previously featured in PCRM’s Teaming Up 4 Health campaign where he had the opportunity to speak on Capitol Hill and share his remarkable journey. Now he is delighted to be bringing his passion and talents to the Physicians Committee as host of The Exam Room and to show others that the impossible is possible — you can get healthy!Chuck's substackThe Exam Room podcastChuck's InstagramThe Juicy Bits:Fear is a powerful motivator. One Nacho Theory - you can't have just one. If you're not doing something, it's your fault. It's important to have confidence in yourself and not care what everyone thinks. We live in a culture of following masses. It's hard not to get influenced when we see messages over and over again. We live in a world where people have no filter and they're hiding behind a screen. Know that people will comment even without all the facts. With maturity and age comes the confidence to speak up. When you know better, you do better. In midlife, it's important to surround yourself with good friends, and learn to be comfortable in your own skin. If you're happy doing what you're doing, it doesn't matter what other people think. For nervous system regulation, go for a walk, sit outside and read, craft something, or rant on stories.Don't say, "I could never."Jen Sattler on Instagram Dave Portnoy - Barstool**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for generalinformational purposes only. Combining professional expertise with her personal journey as a parent, she transforms the lives of children with dyslexia by creating personalized educational plans that help them learn and thrive. Her advocacy has shaped state policy - securing mandated teacher training on dyslexia in Virginia - and earned her the “Child Advocate of the Year” award from the Virginia state PTA. Recently, she received the “Cypress Leadership Award” from The Siena School for her instrumental work in securing vital support for children with dyslexia. Featured in Dystinct magazine and a frequent guest on national podcasts, Lorraine and her team provide hands-on advocacy, parent training, and consultation for families nationwide. She holds a Certificate in Special Education Advocacy from William & Mary Law School, is a trained mediator, has been a state leader for “Decoding Dyslexia Virginia,” a past board member of the Virginia International Dyslexia Association, and is a professional member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA). Lorraine is a fierce advocate for individuals with dyslexia, as she relentlessly champions structured literacy interventions, effective accommodations, and the opportunities every child needs to succeed in school and in life.Lorraine's Notes from the Sidelines:Moms know deep down when something isn't right. You could do everything right and still have a child with needs. The special ed process is lengthy and often met with challenge and condescension. It's not that they teachers don't want to help; it's often that they don't have the proper training.2-4 kids in every classroom are dyslexic. Literacy is a national crisis.Anytime something hard happens, we go through the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance). The 6th stage is advocacy, because you want to help others avoid your pain. When you get baseline assessment results from school, take initiative to have a conversation with the school.Educational advocacy is unregulated, so do your homework to find the right advocate.Waiting is never the answer.Get emotional behind the scenes, not at a school meeting. We do what we believe is best, so give yourself grace. websiteInstagramFacebook**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for generalinformational purposes only. Dr. Jenn's Notes from the Sidelines:If you have a diagnosis, small things matter. If you try to change everything at once, it'll be a disaster. Every day, be a little better. What you eat, and when you eat, matters. Sleep is when detoxification happens. Your body can't do it if it's busy digesting food. How you handle stress, talk to yourself, and tell yourself stories matter.Sometimes, we have to amputate. There is more to toxins than chemicals. Recognize them and eliminate them.Health is a journey. You never arrive. When faced with challenges, tell yourself G-d loves you and wouldn't but these things in front of you if he didn't think you couldn't handle them.Try an app to restrict social media usage. The only way to fix a bad habit is to replace it with a better one. Crowd out, instead of cut out.You need to be an educated consumer because social media is filled with quackery. Bad advice is being given by well-intentioned people.Nonprofit does not equal non-sponsored. Nonprofit organizations are an arm of industry. The food pyramid is a disaster. It should be designed with what's necessary to sustain us and optimize functioning. It's not.Hospitals get rated and funded by good cafeteria food. If they served healthy food, patients won't need to return to the hospital, and that's bad for business. If you have clinical disease, get Jenn's book.Jenn's websiteJenn's instagramJenn's podcastJenn's YouTubeAuria test - Use code DRJENN20 to save 20%**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for general informational purposes only. As the host of the insightful podcast "KEEPING ABREAST WITH DR. JENN," she shares her expertise and passion for holistic health. Dr. Jenn's Notes from the Sidelines:1/3 or more of breast cancer is created unnecessarily by the way we screen. Mammograms are radiation, and repeated radiation causes cancer.1 in 5 women will have cancerous changes in the breasts, but 1 in 5 women will not die of breast cancer. The vast majority of women with a diagnosis don't die of breast cancer. We are a diagnosis-treat society. More diagnoses = more treatment, but the same number of deaths are happening year after year. We have created an epidemic of disease without improving the quality of life... in fact, we've diminished the quality. In conventional medicine, we're focused on symptoms. And what you focus on grows. The system doesn't want you healthy, because then there's no role for them.Instead of focusing on a tumor, ask why the cancer is there to begin with. What do you have that you don't need and what do you need that you don't have.Breast cancer, or any cancer, is a normal response to an abnormal environment. You can't get healthy in the same environment where you got sick.If you're not sleeping, you're not repairing and healing.Medical school doesn't teach critical thinking. It's fall in line or else, follow the rules or be labeled a quack. We need the foundational things: good food, drink, movement, good thoughts, sleep, detox. It's not whether you fall down, it's if you get up. You can't get up unless you give your body what it needs. We are built to heal and be healthy, but you have to give the body what it needs and take away what it doesn't.Big Pharma makes drugs that make us live longer... but we are not living BETTER.Bioidentical hormones are not talked about, because if you are on them, then you probably don't need the other 10-15 meds you're on.Jenn's websiteJenn's instagramJenn's podcastJenn's YouTube**The information provided on this podcast does not, and is not intended to constitute legal or medical advice; all information, content, and material on this site are for generalinformational purposes only.
