If you’ve watched the news this week, you saw Donald Trump demonize Somali Americans, Afghan asylum seekers, and Latino immigrants. After you watch the above clip, be sure to watch my appearance on Piers Morgan debunking those myths.Meanwhile his ICE fascist goons continue to arrest innocent people. The latest DOJ reports admit that 97.4% of the people ICE arrested in my home town of Chicago had no criminal record. More than 70% of the people arrested in North Carolina had no criminal record. ProPublica reports that ICE has arrested more than 170 U.S. Citizens, and the ACLU reports that pregnant women detained by ICE are suffering miscarriages.Wajahat and I discuss these atrocities, and the complicity of Corporate Democrats to continue to align themselves with MAGA Republicans—rather than with justice.Be sure to tune in and subscribe to support our advocacy and calls for meaningful accountability. This week’s episode is sponsored by Ground News. More on this below! On Episode 190 of The Qasim Rashid Show:I’m joined by unjustly fired Washington Post Journalist Karen Attiah. We discuss:* The collapse of corporate media and attacks on journalists who speak up for justice* The double standard between public support for white male late night hosts and journalists of color, particularly Black women* The role each of us must play to demand media accountability and government accountabilityI also do a deep dive into the actual point of corporate boycotts (hint: It isn’t just to stop a corporation’s bad behavior) and the need to stay welcoming to new people joining our coalition for justice (even if it feels like they’re joining late). Finally, I take seriously my responsibility to share only credible information. This week’s live discussion with Liz Plank and Laura Bates is one unlike I’d ever experienced. I’m both grateful, and somewhat fearful to share it with you.Our two topics covered key issues surrounding free speech, and around AI and misogyny. I’m grateful to have this discussion because it is a critical discussion with two amazing leading voices. And I am fearful because I’m realizing that despite the documented and growing danger, media is woefully unprepared to address Trump’s onslaughts on free speech, and lawmakers globally are woefully unprepared to address AI’s radicalization of young men and the harm it is causing women. My job as a human rights lawyer is to do my best to keep you informed, and this is a critical conversation to do just that. It is a conversation that we will further explore in the coming weeks and months. Let’s Address This.Let's Address This with Qasim Rashid is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. On Free SpeechStephen Colbert is cancelled. Jimmy Kimmel is fired. And Trump has set his sights on Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyer next. The precedent set with terminating comedians and satirists for criticizing the President is daunting. Worse, it is unacceptably reminiscent of Nazi Germany. (e.g. See the headline below). What should we be doing to fight back against this blatant First Amendment violation? We discuss. On AI and MisogynyDid you know that the AI industry is radicalizing young boys and men? This isn’t hyperbole. It’s reality. As best selling author and scholar Laura Bates shares in her new book, “The New Age of Sexism: How AI and Emerging Technologies Are Reinventing Misogyny,” the AI revolution is bringing with it new ways for boys and young men to dehumanize and abuse women in the virtual space—which then impacts real life relationships. Bates documents how these new technologies are not decreasing the impact of misogyny and gender based violence by men against women—it’s making things worse.Be Sure to SubscribeBefore you go, a final request. In my candid conversation with THE LEFT HOOK with Wajahat Ali, we dive into a critical point that very few in corporate media are making. The war we face is not conservative verse liberal, it is billionaires verses the working class. We cannot let culture wars distract us from what is staring us in the face. Let’s Address This.Let's Address This with Qasim Rashid is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.I know that might sound shocking to some. But in truth, this is, and has always been, about the top 1% vs the rest of us 99%. This is no longer about left vs right. It’s about economic injustice by the few against the many. And understand this point—this is not a new strategy. Rather, this is how this nation enabled genocide and slavery, how it enabled Jim Crow, and how it is enabling division through the Southern Strategy, mass incarceration, war on drugs, and militarization of our law enforcement and ICE.The atrocities change, but the power structure remains the same.A power structure to maintain an economic hierarchy where the super wealthy avoid taxes and accountability, and working class people live paycheck to paycheck in a nation with the highest per capita prison population in the world. It does not have to be this way.As corporate media continues to capitulate, we need new mediums of communication to ensure accurate, authentic, fact based analysis of these critical issues that impact us all. That’s why we ask for your support. This platform will never have a paywall. If you can subscribe for free, please join us. We discuss:* What needs to happen for the Democratic Party to listen to its base and condemn the genocide in Gaza?* How does Party leadership expect to attract new young voters when they refuse to endorse exciting young leaders like Zohran Mamdani?* How do we best meaningfully engage with the Democratic Party to ensure our voices are heard? In addition to my conversation with Vice Chair Conrad, I discuss our nation 24 years after 9/11, and what Charlie Kirk’s death should mean when we discuss political violence. Today I spoke with fellow lawyer THE LEFT HOOK with Wajahat Ali on Trump militarizing DC and his plan to become an autocrat and dictator. We debunk his claims about violence in American cities, and continue to call out his fascist anti-immigration policies. And finally, we discuss one meaningful way to fight back. As I mention in the Substack Live, I’ve compiled a list of candidates who stand firm to:* Condemn Trump’s fascism* Condemn Israel’s genocide in Palestine* Reject AIPAC money* Champion universal human rightsIf you choose to support these candidates, you can donate at the link above.
