In The Mother at Home, John Abbott speaks with clear, practical warmth to the daily work of motherhood—showing how a mother’s quiet influence shapes a child’s character, habits, and eternal outlook. With vivid examples drawn from ordinary family life, Abbott explains why loving authority matters, how to establish willing obedience without constant conflict, and how a mother can correct faults fairly, wisely, and consistently.Paperback 📖: https://amzn.to/4sXr5WlScroll Reader 📜: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/the-mother-at-home/Chapters 📑(0:00) Introduction(0:14) Preface(1:50) 1 - Responsibility(32:59) 2 - Maternal Authority(56:26) 3 - Maternal Authority Continued(1:27:45) 4 - The Mother’s Difficulties(1:53:30) 5 - Faults and Errors(2:25:27) 6 - Methods and Plans(2:51:07) 7 - Religious Instruction(3:21:38) 8 - Religious Instruction Continued(4:07:46) 9 - Fruits of Piety(4:39:26) 10 - Fruits of Piety Continued(5:11:57) 11 - Results© 2026 Scroll Reader. Ellen Mansfield leaves her quiet farm believing that hard work — not faith — will shape her future. Caring for her crippled brother Jerry has taught her responsibility but not hope. When she moves to the city, unexpected trials force Ellen to confront questions she’s long avoided and the promise, “As many as touched Him were made whole.” In her search for healing — for Jerry and for her own restless heart — she discovers that true wholeness comes only through trusting in Christ.Listen on Scroll Reader: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/as-many-as-touched-him/(0:00) Introduction(0:58) 1 - Looking for a Letter (9:32) 2 - Jerry's Trial (17:46) 3 - The Great Physician (26:17) 4 - Leaving Home (38:01) 5 - In the Work-Room (44:08) 6 - Suffering for Conscience Sake (51:14) 7 - Dreary Days (55:48) 8 - A Lonely Sufferer (1:02:31) 9 - An Alarming Incident (1:10:22) 10 - A Conversation (1:15:15) 11 - In the Hospital (1:25:49) 12 - Sorrowful Tidings (1:32:30) 13 - Mother and Daughter (1:44:23) 14 - Jerry's Faith Has Its Reward (2:00:46) 15 - Ten Years Later
Revised in 2024 to enhance readability and comprehension. The following story, originally read in French, immediately struck me as one that, with some modifications to convey clear and strong evangelical truths, would make an excellent addition to Sunday School libraries and appeal to young readers of all kinds. The story is deeply moving, and the lessons it teaches are both valuable and important. I've rarely encountered lessons of practical piety presented as simply as they are in this little book, all drawn from the beauties of nature. Almost every chapter contains sermons directed at young hearts, using flowers from the garden as their texts. The translation of the story is quite free, with significant omissions in many places and considerable additions in others.G.T. In the early nineteenth century, when the American frontier still pressed hard against vast wilderness, God raised up an unlikely messenger to carry the Gospel where few were willing to go.John Stewart, a free Black man from Virginia, once lived carelessly in sin and sank so low he tried to drink himself to death. Yet the Lord arrested him, brought him to the foot of the cross, and set a new song in his mouth. Then came a call he could not shake: go northwest, and declare My counsel faithfully.Paperback 📖: https://amzn.to/4bShYjvChapters 📑(0:00) Introduction and Preface(3:40) 1 - From Despair to Mercy(9:16) 2 - The Call to the Northwest(20:43) 3 - The Gospel Challenged(29:40) 4 - Tears at the Door(38:53) 5 - A Shepherd’s Heart, Though Absent(43:01) 6 - Summer Opposition and the War of Rumors(50:01) 7 - A Licensed Preacher and a Strengthened Mission(56:46) 8 - The Last Conflicts and the Last Words
Chapter 21 — Never Punish a Child in AngerFrom Training the Child’s Heart: Practical Hints for Christian Parents by Henry Clay Trumbull. In this excerpt, Trumbull explains why discipline given in anger is always wrong, even when a child clearly deserves correction. He shows how calm, thoughtful correction honors the justice of God, protects your authority, and teaches your child what it truly means to do right. You’ll hear practical insight on the difference between stopping harmful behavior and delivering punishment, and how self-control in a parent leads to growth, trust, and lasting heart change in a child.Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5S3yZUjtZEQb2t9abYY0xa?si=NF-r4wbuTgyEeFmlXRUvmQ
This edition of The Reformed Pastor is based on the version described in William Brown’s 1829 Preface—a shortened, carefully edited edition (not Palmer’s 1766 abridgment) that removes material unrelated to the main subject and some dated controversy, with minor reordering (including moving “Motives to the Oversight of the Flock” into the main body) and light language correction without modernizing the style.Paperback & Kindle: https://amzn.to/3LLOfhAScroll Reader: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/reformed-pastor-call-faithful-shepherding/Chapters(0:00) Intro(1:08) Dedication(25:39) Introduction(28:11) 1 - The Nature of the Oversight(1:10:03) 2 - The Motives To This Oversight(1:44:51) 3 - The Nature of This Oversight(2:48:30) 4 - The Manner of This Oversight(3:19:46) 5 - The Motives of This Oversight(3:38:02) 6 - The Use of Humiliation(5:05:40) 7 - The Duty of Personal Instruction(5:49:53) 8 - Motives Drawn From the Difficulties of the Work(6:32:13) 9 - Objections to This Duty(7:11:14) 10 - Directions for This Duty(7:12:56) 11 - How to Win Your People to Catechising and Personal Instruction(7:25:14) 12 - How to Instruct Souls Most Effectively© 2026 Scroll Reader. Can a church call itself evangelical if it is not evangelistic? In these searching addresses, G. Campbell Morgan brings the whole subject of evangelism back to its New Testament center: the one unchanging evangel and the living Christ who still proclaims it through His Church. Refusing both nostalgic longing for “old-fashioned revivals” and shallow schemes for a “new evangelism” with no Cross, Morgan insists that there is only one Gospel—always fresh, always sufficient—for every age.Beginning with the evangel itself—Christ’s Lordship, His atoning Cross, His risen life, and His indwelling Spirit—Morgan traces how this message creates and sustains an evangelistic Church. A truly evangelical church, he argues, must be a fellowship of reconciled, regenerate, and reigning believers whose life together makes the Gospel visible to the world.Paperback & Kindle: https://amzn.to/45C3hgxListen on Scroll Reader: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/a-bible-believing-church-must-be-evangelistic/Chapters(0:00) Introduction(0:42) 1 - The Evangel(23:49) 2 - The Church Evangelistic(49:03) 3 - The Evangelist(1:19:39) 4 - The Evangelistic Service(1:46:38) 5 - The Present Opportunity© 2026 Scroll Reader. Henry Clay Trumbull offers practical, Scripture-minded hints for Christian parents that challenged me in areas of child-training I hadn’t thought through as deeply—especially his call to help children form their own biblical convictions rather than merely borrowing ours. Chapters like Honoring a Child’s Individuality and Training a Child as a Questioner are especially thought-provoking, and even where you may not agree with every emphasis, Trumbull models a wise balance of gentleness and firmness. In an age when parenting counsel often drifts from Scripture, this book provides biblical perspective and usable guidance for shepherding the precious souls God has entrusted to us.Scroll Reader: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/training-the-childs-heart/Paperback/Kindle: https://amzn.to/4pppmGhChapters (0:00) Introduction (2:07) Preface (4:15) 1 - Child-Training: What Is It? “How can I read the Bible in a way that I enjoy it?” Edward Leigh Pell answers this question with plain, practical wisdom. He shows that real profit from Scripture does not come from duty alone, but from reading with attention, prayer, and delight. With clear illustrations and steady counsel, Pell clears away common misunderstandings and helps the Bible come alive—so that those who have long held it as a treasure may finally taste its sweetness.Paperback 📖: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G9DFPD74Scroll Reader 📜: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/art-of-enjoying-the-bible/Chapters 📑(0:00) 0 – Introduction(0:46) 1 – A Question of Pleasure(10:45) 2 – Getting Ready(22:07) 3 – Manner of Approach(27:50) 4 – The Matter of Method(42:45) 5 – Reading the Bible by Books(59:15) 6 – In Reading Particular Books of the Bible(1:32:44) 7 – Studying the Bible by Topics(1:38:59) 8 – The Topical Method Illustrated(1:59:47) 9 – One Way of Studying The Sunday School Lesson(2:06:08) 10 – Accounting for Difficulties(2:16:53) 11 – A Pair of Neglected Helps(2:22:58) 12 – Cultivating a Taste For The Bible in Little Children(2:31:45) 13 – When Family Worship Is A Pleasure(2:42:27) 14 – Additional Points© 2026 Scroll Reader. “I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content.” With that single line from Philippians 4:11, Paul introduces a rare grace that every Christian longs for but few enjoy. In this classic work Puritan pastor Thomas Watson shows that true contentment is not natural temperament or denial of hardship, but a learned, Spirit-taught way of seeing God’s hand in every condition—poverty and plenty, sickness and health, calm and trouble. With piercing diagnosis and warm, practical counsel, he exposes the roots of our restlessness and guides believers into the quiet, Christ-centered confidence that can say in any circumstance, “I have learned to be content.”Paperback 📖: https://amzn.to/4iD7lSZScroll Reader 📜: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/the-secret-of-divine-contentment/Chapters 📑:(0:00) Intro - Introduction(0:12) 1 - Paul’s Lesson in Contentment and Trust(3:18) 2 - The First Lesson: Becoming a Learner of Christ(11:34) 3 - Contentment: A Lesson Nature Cannot Teach(17:59) 4 - The Heart of the Text: Content in Every State(27:27) 5 - Answering Objections About Contentment(29:45) 6 - How to Live with Joy in Any Condition(32:07) 7 - The Murmuring Spirit: A Rebuke to the Discontented(36:35) 8 - Answering Discontent in Losses and Relationships(1:00:41) 9 - Answering Discontent in Reproach, Evil Times, and Spiritual Trials(1:29:48) 10 - Divine Motives to Contentment(1:54:00) 11 - Christ and Grace: The Treasure You Already Possess(1:57:52) 12 - Contentment and Your Prayers(2:02:00) 13 - All Things Work for Good in Affliction(2:13:58) 14 - The Evil and Folly of Discontent(2:30:25) 15 - Why More Will Never Satisfy: Lessons in Godly Contentment(2:50:56) 16 - The Three Places a Christian Must Never Be Content(3:05:42) 17 - How to Tell If You Have Learned Christian Contentment(3:15:55) 18 - The Practice of Contentment: A Christian’s Step-by-Step Guide(3:54:55) 19 - Encouragement for the Christian Who Walks in Contentment© 2026 Scroll Reader. When doubt feels louder than truth, where do you turn? How to Deal With Doubts and Doubters (1907, Revised 2025) by Henry Clay Trumbull opens the door to real, heart-level conversations with troubled souls—men and women who feared they had gone too far, committed the “unpardonable sin,” lacked true faith, or could not feel what they thought a real Christian should feel. These are not theories, but actual encounters drawn from decades of ministry as a chaplain, pastor, and personal worker.Through vivid stories and clear, Christ-centered counsel, Trumbull shows: How to help those who focus on what they don’t believe learn to rest in what they do believe Why endlessly examining your feelings destroys assurance—and where to look instead How to speak to people who think they must “feel something break inside” before they can come to Christ How to comfort believers tormented by fear of the unpardonable sin Why waiting to be “good enough,” or to “feel ready,” keeps many outside the church and away from obedience How to think wisely about miracles, providence, and spiritual existence in a skeptical age Why enjoying God’s service and prayer is not a spiritual danger, and when lack of enjoyment may simply be physicalWhether you are wrestling with doubts yourself or walking alongside someone who is, this classic 1907 work offers warm, practical help. Trumbull refuses shallow answers. Instead, he patiently leads doubting, sensitive souls away from themselves and back to the living Christ—where lasting rest is found.Ideal for pastors, counselors, small group leaders, and any Christian who wants to deal gently and wisely with wounded consciences.Kindle and Paperback: https://amzn.to/3MeR1M2Listen on Scroll Reader: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/how-to-deal-with-doubts-and-doubters/ (0:00) Introduction (13:58) 1 - Considering Doubts Rather Than Beliefs (21:03) 2 - Seeking Help Inside of Self, Not Outside (29:43) 3 - Not Ready to Give Up One’s Will (36:44) 4 - Waiting to Be Good Enough to Join the Church (41:25) 5 - Waiting for Something Inside to “Break” (49:18) 6 - Facing “The Unpardonable Sin” (56:40) 7 - Waiting for More Faith (1:05:45) 8 - Troubled Because Enjoying God’s Service (1:13:57) 9 - Considering Our Desires, Instead of God’s Love (1:26:34) 10 - Is Lack of Right Feeling a Barrier to Right Action? The first part of this book explains how prayer works—why we should pray, how God guides His children, and how He patiently teaches us to trust Him without doubting. It shows that God remains faithful even when we are weak, and that He invites us to bring every need to Him.The second part gathers real testimonies of answered prayer—stories from Trumbull’s own life and from believers he personally knew. These examples show how God met specific needs with clear, tender mercy, encouraging Christians to trust Him and pray with confidence.Paperback 📖: https://amzn.to/43XWk91 Scroll Reader 📜: https://scrollreader.com/audiobook/personal-prayer/ (0:00) Introduction (0:46) Preface (1:50) 1 – What Is Prayer? Born in a Cornish mining village in 1794, Billy Bray lived for years as a drunken, reckless miner—until one night in 1823 when the grace of God broke through his darkness and made him a new man. From that moment on, he could not stop talking about his Saviour. His joy was contagious, his faith unshakable, and his voice could be heard ringing through the mines and the chapels of Cornwall: “I am a son of a King!” The King’s Son tells the remarkable true story of how divine grace transformed a coarse, poverty-stricken miner into one of England’s most joyful and beloved evangelists. Charles Bridges’ Exposition of the Book of Proverbs is a classic commentary that blends deep biblical insight with practical application. When faith grows dim and outward forms remain without life, what is left?In The Backslider, Andrew Fuller exposes one of the most solemn truths in the Christian walk—the soul that once seemed earnest, yet turns away from God. With pastoral tenderness and searching insight into the human heart, Fuller traces the slow and hidden decline of the inner life: how holy affections fade, how conscience grows silent, and how sin—when left unconfessed—darkens the understanding and hardens the heart.LinksScroll ReaderPaperback or KindleChapters (0:00) Introduction (1:16) Preface (5:08) 1 - The Backslider (7:51) 2 - Understanding the Nature and Progress of Backsliding (12:53) 3 - Forms of Backsliding (37:52) 4 - On the Symptoms of a Backsliding Spirit (52:41) 5 - The Dangers of Sin Left on the Conscience (1:11:19) 6 - Means of Recovery© 2026 Scroll Reader.
