The Shadowfell is an overlapping or echo of the Material Plane in much the same way as the Feywild. But it is not a lush and verdant hunting ground like the Feywild, nor Is it the tumultuous battleground of the Elemental Chaos. In this dark and imperfect reflection of the natural realm, shadows and gloom replace light and hope, suffusing everything with melancholy. Vecna. He is the secret whispered in the dark, the deathbed confession that topples an empire, the lost spell fragment that can shackle the mortal races forever. He waits in hidden places, unearthing dark knowledge and horrible, long-buried things to further his dark goals.  Support the Scorched Basin Kickstarter Support us on PATREON We are also on Youtube Join our Discord Get your copy of Starseekers' Guide to Draken Star Instagram Bluesky Learn more about your ad choices. Where the illithids came from, why they choose to live in eternal darkness beneath the earth, what they seek, why they take such delight in cruelty and horror—these questions have stymied sages for centuries. The answers are startling and horrible, yet provide little illumination. One can know the mind flayers without understanding them. This week Will and Omar cover the Lore of the Githyanki. The githyanki plunder countless worlds from the decks of their astral vessels and the backs of red dragons. Feathers, beads, gems, and precious metals decorate their armor and weapons — the legendary silver swords with which they cut through their foes. Since winning their freedom from the mind flayers, the githyanki have become ruthless conquerors under the rulership of their dread lich-queen, Vlaakith. This week Will and Omar cover the Lore of Aasimar.  Their births are hailed as blessed events. Everywhere they go, they’re otherworldly visages, luminous features reveal their celestial heritage for which they are revered. Perhaps no other species of people are so readily trusted and praised for their deeds. So why… why is it so lonely to be Aasimar… Support us on PATREON We are also on Youtube Join our Discord Get your copy of Starseekers' Guide to Draken Star Instagram Bluesky Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode, William and Omar talk about the Yuan-Ti. Throughout recorded history, the humanoids of D&D have feared the Yuan-ti—those sentient snake folk whose cultures, magic, weapons, cities, and visible accomplishments rival those of humanoids. Fireside terror tales tell of slithering death, unblinking eyes, and fangs in the night, and a few even hint at the serpentfolks’ fell plans to enslave all other races and breed them like cattle. Some people scoff at such talk, but the wisest sages warn that these fears have a solid foundation. This episode, William and Omar talk about Kobolds. Kobolds are often characterized as squalid, diminutive reptiles on par with the likes of goblins or worse. Malicious, but of little actual menace. Their small stature, reptilian appearance, and often subterranean dwellings contribute to the image of them as vermin or lesser creatures. While some might grudgingly acknowledge their cunning in trap-making and mining, the prevailing view of kobolds is one of a cowardly, resentful, and ultimately hostile species. On this D&D Legends and Lore, William Stark and Omar Timsah cover the lore of Orcus the Demon Prince of Undeath. Though all demon lords would plunge the cosmos into eternal darkness and death should they ever be given the opportunity, few if any among the Lords of the Abyss strike horror and fear into the hearts of mortals more starkly than Orcus, the Demon Prince of Undeath. He who would annihilate even his brethren demonkind from existence and leave only the soulless undead to inherit the cosmos. On this D&D Legends and Lore, William Stark and Omar Timsah cover the lore of Devils. Evil comes in many forms. The power hungry ambition of the Lich. The tyrannical, megalomania of the Beholder. The calamitous destruction of the  demon. But perhaps no evil is as insidious and wicked as the evil that calls itself “Friend”.  Since the earliest days of D&D, devils have loomed large among the mightiest opponents an adventurer can face. Not only for their dangerous and violent nature, which is on par with that of any Devil, Dragon, or Aberration. But for their unrivaled ability to prey on and exploit the most defenseless part of any person be they mighty or meek.  Support us on PATREON We are also on Youtube Join our Discord Get your copy of Starseekers' Guide to Draken Star Instagram Bluesky Learn more about your ad choices. Not the “darkness” of their own appearance or demeanor. Not the darkness of their fiendish heritage or the dark magic of the lower planes that is their purview. But the darkness of society’s reaction to them.  Support us on PATREON We are also on Youtube Join our Discord Get your copy of Starseekers' Guide to Draken Star Instagram Bluesky Learn more about your ad choices. On this D&D Legends and Lore, Omar Timsah and William Stark cover the lore of Hags. For as long as there have been tales to tell, there have been whispered warnings of hags. From legends of cruel yet wise seers prowling the fringes of civilization to cautionary tales of cursed, hate filled creatures in the form of haggardly crones, hags haunt the mythology and folk-stories of nearly every people.  But what is the truth to these tales? Are these hideous creatures truly as abominable as their exterior indicates or are hags more than cruel, malicious monsters? Is a hag, fey, fiend, or friend? Many tales warn of dwarves who delve too deep. Few end well. In the days of old Delzoun, Clan Battlehammer carved its stronghold into the heart of Mithril Hall, a kingdom of wealth and power. But in their ceaseless digging, they tore open a rift—a doorway to the Shadowfell. And waiting on the other side was a nightmare as black as pitch, as hateful as sin. There is goddess who seeks to redeem the fallen Drow and lead them back to the great forests of the surface world that their ancestors forsook many millennia ago. On this D&D Legends and Lore, William Stark and Omar Timsah cover the Origins of the Abyss. The Abyss is an enticing enigma within the lore of Dungeons and Dragons. Its depths unknowable. It’s animus inscrutable. A festering malignancy upon the very fiber of existence. The abyss is nihility made real. The call of the abyss has driven many a D&D character mad as they attempt to understand the plane of Chaos and Evil incarnate. And though no consensus as to its origins has ever been reached. There are two major theories that have permeated the editions of Dungeons and Dragons. These I will present thusly.
