How do you know an ID is genuine, and that the person presenting it is its rightful holder? In this episode of ID Talk, hosts Tony Bitzionis and Alex Perala welcome Geoff Slagle, Executive Vice President of Digital Identity at FaceTec, to examine the challenges of detecting fake IDs and verifying the people using them. Drawing on nearly three decades in identity security and driver’s license standards, Slagle discusses increasingly accessible forgery tools, the limitations of visual ID checks, and the risks of collecting and storing large volumes of identity-document images. The conversation also explores FaceTec’s UR Codes, cryptographically signed biometric barcodes designed to connect identity credentials to their holders. Slagle explains how compact biometric data and digital signatures can help establish both who issued a credential and whether the person presenting it is entitled to use it. Along the way, the discussion covers the continuing role of physical IDs, the data-minimization promise of mobile driver’s licenses, and Slagle’s case for changing how organizations verify identity.
What does document security look like in an identity landscape that is rapidly moving toward digital technologies? In this episode of the ID Talk Podcast, hosts Tony Bitzionis and Alex Perala speak with Troy Group’s Jean Cavalier, Sales Engineer, and Mark Bond, Director of Sales, EMEA & APAC, about the often-overlooked physical side of identity security and the challenge of protecting critical documents from fraud. The conversation explores Troy Group’s work securing the personalized information on documents such as vital records, the role of SecureDocs and specialized printing technologies, and what Troy has learned from deployments across international markets. Cavalier and Bond also discuss the practical realities of implementing document-security infrastructure, the need to educate organizations about vulnerabilities before fraud occurs, and the challenge of building solutions that can adapt to different technological environments. Looking ahead, they consider how document security can bridge the gap between paper-based credentials and an increasingly digital identity ecosystem.
Evie Kim Sing, editor of IdentityWeek.net, joins ID Talk for a preview of Identity Week USA 2026, taking place in Washington, D.C. She walks through some of the biggest themes shaping this year’s event, including agentic AI, mobile driver’s licenses, digital wallets, fraud prevention, transportation security, and the growing role of identity in national security. The conversation also looks at how Identity Week is evolving as a forum for real-world pilots, deployments, and industry announcements, rather than just vendor presentations. Evie discusses the differences between the U.S. and European identity ecosystems, the importance of networking and collaboration at the event, and why AI agents and their authorization boundaries are emerging as one of the most important identity questions of the year. Maxine Most, founder and CEO of Acuity Market Intelligence and creator of the Deepfake Summit, returns to ID Talk for a preview of the upcoming September 1 event in Arlington, Virginia. She joins hosts Alex Perala and Tony Bitzionis to discuss the thinking behind the Summit, its collaborative format, and an agenda bringing together experts from government, technology, fraud, privacy, policy, and other fields to examine the rapidly evolving challenges posed by deepfakes, synthetic identity, agentic AI, and other emerging attack vectors. The conversation also explores some of the major themes that will shape the Summit, including Max’s concept of “resilient trust,” the growing difficulty of establishing authenticity in an AI-driven environment, and the way automation is allowing fraud to operate at unprecedented scale. Max also discusses why these challenges can’t be addressed by individual technologies or isolated fraud teams, and why building effective trust infrastructure will require much greater collaboration across industries, institutions, and areas of expertise.
