Most of us have experienced a heartbreak or two in our lives. They might not be our finest moments, but I bet they make for great stories. If you have not been through such a thing, lucky you. Allow yourself to simply be entertained by this episode. Although Caitlin isn’t going through a heartbreak right now, something inspired her to finally sit down and discuss this topic. She walks you through her “credentials” as someone who can give breakup advice, shares the most embarrassing moments she’s had as a broken-hearted girl, talks about different kinds of heartbreaks that aren’t romantic, and reminds you yet again not to talk to them. This conversation called for a glass of wine, but Caitlin is a professional, so she met in the middle by pouring herself a glass of non-alcoholic rosé. Honestly, this episode is shameless and funny. Oh, also, she talks about why the show “Love Story” makes her grandmas. You never know what you’re going to get around here, but it’s always a good time.Episode Timestamps:00:55 Welcome back to The Good Stuff01:48 Non-alcoholic rosé & setting the vibe02:37 Why we’re talking about heartbreak today06:33 “Some Good Stuff” segment begins07:12 Thoughts on the JFK Jr & Carolyn story08:15 Missing my grandmas & wanting their perspective12:05 Horse show update13:58 Mendocino Farms finally opened near me15:49 Let’s get into heartbreak17:15 Different kinds of heartbreak (not just breakups)19:13 Why I wanted to talk about this topic21:19 My two major heartbreak experiences27:18 Rule #1: Do NOT talk to your ex33:37 It gets easier with time34:46 Heartbreak teaches you about yourself37:54 You learn who your real friends are41:05 Someone who loves you shouldn’t make you feel that way43:47 It’s not for nothing (you’ll appreciate healthy love)46:10 The ice cream rule48:28 Final thoughts on heartbreak & healing49:27 OutroFollow The Good Stuff on InstagramFollow Caitlin on TikTokFollow the Good Word Co on InstagramWatch on YouTubeListen on SpotifyListen on AppleCheck out The Good Word Co Website
We’ve got our first in-studio guest! Caitlin met Shea through showing horses and has grown to know her not just as a barn mate, but also as a person and friend. Unlike Caitlin who grew up showing horses (as you heard all about last episode), Shea started competing just a few years ago. Caitlin knows the impact of having this community in her life since she was a kid, but she thought it might be interesting to hear the perspective of someone who came to it as an adult. Shea talks about entering this industry – what parts felt intimidating, whether she felt welcomed, and how she balances such a demanding sport within her marriage (hi, Cowboy Chris!). It really opens up a wider conversation about trying new things as an adult. You are not too old to find a new passion. “If I had been doing this only for the blue ribbons that I win, I would have quit so long ago. Because that is not enough to keep you going in this sport.” Being a competitive equestrian is a big part of Caitlin’s identity. She has shown Arabian horses for 20 years at the local, regional, and national level. It’s a big part of why she built her business The Good Word, Co. and, most importantly, where she has learned so much about life – through triumphs and success, along with heartbreak and disappointment. On the eve of the kickoff to the 2026 season, she felt like it was a good time to dive into all the lessons she has learned over the years. This wisdom has come from competing in this sport, but as you will hear, she pulls on many of these lessons in her daily personal and professional life. She talks about hard work, balancing bigemotions, managing competition within friendships, the benefit of nerves, clapping for others when your world is not going according to plan, and much more. Take a peek behind the curtain of horse competitions and enjoy this episode! Happy and sad. Good and bad. Excited and anxious. So often in life, we are balancing multiple emotions over the same event, conversation, or experience. It’s a learning curve to let all these feelings exist in the same moment. This episode looks at this complicated aspect of being human. Caitlin talks about times she has felt this – including a funny recent late work night. She also talks about way more sports than she has any business doing and introduces a new segment called “Some Good Stuff!” She talks about Fernando Mendoza, breeding horses, her grandma’s wardrobe, and franchise quarterbacks all within the same 45 minutes. And somehow, it all flows. Oh – and you all get the first visual of her dog too. It’s a worthwhile watch or listen.p.s.The Good Stuff is now on YouTube! Hi. This is my most vulnerable episode yet. I cry multiple times. If you have been a consistent listener, you probably know who Ben is. If you are new here, Ben was a bonus big brother of mine who passed away at the beginning of 2025. There have been little snippets of him on the podcast over the past year. Now feltlike a good time to dedicate an episode to the things he taught me, stories of how he lived, and the complexities of grieving someone young. If you knew Ben personally, please only watch or listen to this if you think it will help you. I do not want this to make anyone any sadder than you might already feel. Thereis not much more to say. I hope you take something from this episode. p.s. The Good Stuff is now on YouTube! “I can’t say that New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day are my favorite holidays. I actually think they are super overrated. But, it is an inspiring time as it feels like the world and people around you are motivated to start fresh and do better. And while I am not a big New Year’s Resolution person (because I just like to course correct as issues present themselves), I do like to reflect onthe previous year to see what I can take from it. This year I put together 25 things I learned in 2025. Unlike my birthday episode, these are all really things that presented themselves to me in the last year. Some lessons were tough, some were surprising, and some were affirming. But, I feel like they allare making me a better version of myself as I head into 2026. I hope you feel seen in some of what I chat about. And most of all, I hope you enjoy it!” – xo,Caitlinp.s. The Good Stuff is now on YouTube! We can find joy in the biggest moments and smallest things in life. It is also a word used commonly around the holidays. There is such a focus on seeking joy through the activities we do, traditions we have, and people we spend our time with. Joy is celebratory. Much like hope, it is also active. In this episode, Caitlin goes through many renditions of the word joy – assessing all the places you can find it in your life. She talks about some recent motivation and encouragement she found in her work life. Caitlin also gives her listeners permission to understand that their joy might look different than other peoplein their lives. And, that is OK. People don’t have to always understand what makes you happy, but they do have to respect it. She ends the episode with a story that she classifies as a Christmas miracle. Things get a little weird in a good way. Hope you enjoy this episode. Send it to at least one friend to share with their families this holiday season! p.s. The Good Stuff is now on YouTube! As we enter the holiday season, so many words and phrasesare thrown around. In this episode, Caitlin and her guest Erica dive into one of those words – gratitude. Caitlin describes Erica as “human sunshine” so she was the perfect person to talk through this word with. Caitlin talks about why she chose Erica for this word, and tells a funny story about how Erica helpedher “practice” podcasting more than a year ago. Erica’s gratitude and positivity have been tested more than once through a variety of things. She opens up about those specific events including a tough breakup and a sensitive holiday season with her family. She shares practical things she does to feel grateful everyday. Listeners are also in for a pleasant surprise guest about halfway through. It will feel like you are in the room with this set of dorm room neighbors, turned roommates, turned lifelong friends. Aren’t we lucky to live in a world where we can hope for more, for better, for anything really? This question crossed Caitlin’s mind the week before recording this episode, and what betterplace than The Good Stuff to dive into it. Hope might first sound like a feeling you only rely on when you are out of options and feeling desperate. While that is sometimes the case, during this conversation, Caitlin talks about how active hope can be. She also gives you permission to hope when things are alreadygood. She recounts a few standout memories where she felt either the presence or lack of hope and what those mean to her. It’s a trip down memory lane in some ways and a guide for the future in others. This episode is going to get you thinking. Caitlin talks about the word guilt, which also bleeds into the feelings of shame, remorse, and regret. She talks about two recent situationsthat inspired this topic. And although she doesn’t give specifics about the details of the event, she is very, very, very vulnerable about the feelings associated with them. Remember when she said she was going to start therapy? Yeah … that hasn’t happened yet, so this is definitely one of those episodesyou all probably feel like you could charge her for. She talks about how forgiveness relates to guilt, why she thinks that someone giving you their forgiveness doesn’t mean you are rid of guilt, and the importance of knowing the difference betweenmoments you are proud of and ones you don’t want to repeat. She also goes into a hypothetical situation involving your grandma and Mango Deck. It’s best not to ask and instead just listen. Enjoy! Your host Caitlin is taking a bit of a risk with this episode. Usually, she comes to you with what feels like an “answer” or a big takeaway. But, this time she is letting you in to the in-between phase. She is in a stage of growth and change in multiple areas of her life at the moment. So, she turned on the microphone to process her feelings with you all. Plenty of people talk about what it was like at point A or B, but not a lot of people detail how it feels on the journey between the two. That is growth. Growth can be painful and uncomfortable. In fact, sometimes it has to be. You are doing something new (or in a new way) for the first time. This episode talks about all these things and more. If you feel like you are in limbo with anything in life, this will help you feel like you’ve got a friend on the path with you. Have you ever looked at a repeat situation and thought to yourself, “Maybe I am the common denominator here?” This episode walks you through how to handle that feeling. Caitlin talks about the importance of self-awareness, when she realized it was time to do a real audit of her life, lessons she has learned in her professional and personal life by becoming more self-aware, and even divulges the things about herself that need the most work. Self-awareness helps your skills in conflict, but also in seeking confidence. What do you like about yourself that you are already doing? What do you not like that you can change? Being sure in the person that you are will help you navigate life’s most exciting, uncomfortable, and importantsituations. And it will also help you determine who in your life should stay and who you are not willing to change for. Looking in the mirror does expose our flaws, but in this case, knowledge is power. You can only be part of a race that you sign yourself up for. During this discussion, Caitlin talks about the word competition. She details where she has seen it in the world, particularly in recent events. You learn about her studies of political media in the United States, why she feels compelled (and qualified) to lead this conversation, and how her knowledge influences her perspective of the “competition” we experience within each other over our beliefs.  Didyou know your host could have been a published researcher? Next, she talks about her personal relationship with competition of many types. She focuses on her time showing horses, as it has kept her in organized competition for morethan 20 years. This has taught her many life lessons that she utilizes in all areas of her life: business, relationships, friendships, and more. You’ll hear her take on participation trophies and why she once tried to give one of her own away. This episode is a thoughtful journey. In this episode Caitlin talks about the importance of being consistent. She was inspired to talk about this word after reflecting on what she has learned after four years as a business owner. What is something she is proud of at this point? The fact that her work ethic has become consistent. She promised herself in the early days of The Good Word, Co. thather work ethic would be the most impressive thing about her as a professional. She showed up for herself when the client book wasn’t as full as it is now, because she wanted to strengthen that muscle. When nobody was watching, she was working – no matter what. She also talks about how consistency has served her in friendship, why it’s “one of the hottest things in a guy” (sorry, Dad), her real-life inspiration to get physically stronger, and why Ross and Rachel are the worst TV couple ever. Caitlin also discusses her newfound rule of just doing 10% more to reach her goals in an attainable way. This is a classic The Good Stuff episode. Enjoy! Have you ever wondered why this podcast art reads “broughtto you by The Good Word, Co.?" This episode should answer that and then some. September 6 will mark four years of Caitlin’s business The Good Word, Co, so she came to the podcast to celebrate! The Good Word, Co. is a full-service business that focuses on supporting nonprofits with their communications and fundraising efforts. In addition, TGW offers editorial writing services and hosts The Good Stuff (duh!). During this episode, Caitlin and her mom Alison (a familiar voice on the pod) have a fun, nostalgic conversation about how she got to this point professionally. Caitlin also gives some of her best advice for communicating well, talks about her timeas an in-office nonprofit employee, shares her tactics for constructing “the ask”, and explains why she tells most people “no” when they ask her if they should start a business. You also get her mom’s perspective as Alison talks about her initial surprise when Caitlin told her about her idea to start a businessin the height of the pandemic. This is a lot more lighthearted than most episodes, but a great way to get to know your host! Don’t miss it. This is one of those episodes that everyone can (unfortunately) relate to in some way. Grief gets to all of us, at one time, or another, or another. Most of us will feel the depths of grief multiple times in our lives. It is a promised pain of loving someone or something that much. Caitlin was finally ready to record this episode after attending an event honoring the life of someone who passed in early 2025. She’s been active in her grief of that person since then. In this conversation, she reads a quote that changed her perspective on grief entirely, shares advice her mom has given her, reflects on her grandmother’s passing from a couple of years ago, and tries for herself (and her listeners) to find the good things to cling to when missing someone or something feels overwhelming. This episode is important, sensitive, and deep. Do you feel like you are living a life that is authentically yours? In this solo episode, your host Caitlin gets right to the importance of doing just that – living a life that aligns with your values, for you. This doesn’t eliminate outside influence on your life, quite the contrary. It simply only allows room for people who genuinely want the best for you. This means they expect the best for you as well. She talks about where she has seenauthenticity play out in the world, like in the recent nationally-televised trial. And she goes on to talk about what authenticity means to her, including a “full-circle” work moment that she wishes she could tell her 10-year-old self about. Listening to this episode will be a good use of 40 minutes. It’ll be validation for those of you who feel like you are right where you are meant to be. And it'll be step one towards making that change for those of you who may not. Give it a listen and then share it with a friend! In this episode of The Good Stuff, Caitlin talks about loyalty. Your host goes through the different parts of our lives and society that are synonymous with this concept. Everything from dogs being “a man’s best friend” to soldiers defending their country and the complexities of loyalty in romantic and personal relationships makes this a universal concept we all can relate to. You’ll hear her personal feelings about loyalty as a pertains to both personal and romantic relationships. Your loyalty can be both energizing and energy-depleting, making how you spend it a super important decision. Choose who gets your loyalty wisely. Caitlin reflects on her loyalty being tested, including cheating romantic partners and friendships ending. She’s had to walk away from people because of how they’ve violated her loyalty or that of someone close to her; and she assumes you’ve all felt the same. This episode may be shorter than some of the others, but it’s just because she gets right to the point. After recently chopping (and donating) 10 inches off her hair, Caitlin realized that she was very attached to her long hair and furthermore, that it was a way she felt beautiful. With that gone, she was faced with the question of “do I still feel beautiful?” Her answer is “yes”, but not for the reason you might think. It made her evaluate her own vanity. She realized that she has tried hard to not let her physical appearance – and the attention she may get for that – be a measure of her worth. This episode gets very personal for as Caitlin tells her experience with bullying in middle school. She was a late bloomer and ridiculed for it in multiple ways. But, it is only in looking back on her experience that she sees how that impacted her relationship with her own looks and vanity. Overall, she wants people to see that their face, hair, body, clothes, or anything else external, are not the most beautiful things about them. This is one of those episodes that’s full of lessons, leaving you feeling better than when you hit play.Follow The Good Stuff Podcast on Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@the.good.stuff.podcastFollow The Good Stuff Podcast on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/the.good.stuff.podcast/?hl=en
With Father’s Day just behind us, Caitlin thought this would be a good time to (re)introduce her dad, Jim, to the podcast. If you are an OG listener, you will remember him from “Let’s Talk About … Sacrifice.” Father’s Day can bring up a lot of different emotions for people. Some people no longer have their dads here with them, others have a strained relationship, and the lucky ones (what Caitlin considers herself to be) have a great figure who protects, guides, and supports them through life. She knows people who fall into every category of those relationships. In her personal life, she often “shares” Jim with others. He is the quintessential dad. So, she felt like it would be nice to share him with this audience as well. In the first part of this episode, Caitlin reflects on some of the life lessons her dad has taught her. Including the life lesson that resulted in her teenage self giving him the silent treatment for hours. The second half is a chit-chat between Caitlin and Jim where he talks through his best dad wisdom and even answers questionsthat some of you sent in. Jimbo is not being gate-kept any longer. Enjoy!
