Chapter 3: In a stunning development, Danny runs into a female who is the “twin” of his fictional character, Galatea, at a coffee shop —or her double. Danny presses her regarding her origins. The female, in a surreal moment, discusses issues that only he and the fictional character shared in his mind. His physician discusses two explanations: mental illness or that the female is merely a product of the law of attraction.
Danny’s friends— which include Tricia, as well as David, a tech support aide and genius. Danny runs into the Galatea “twin” at a book shop and she leaves hm with a book about self-discovery. The female says the resemblance to a fictional and their “run-ins” imply destiny and how each one of us—through the subconscious— “create” the people and experiences in our lives.

Danny “visits” with Galatea in a series of surreal dreams. In one dreamscape, she has a message as they meet in a niche between the world of fiction and his real world. She urges him to live his dreams aspirations and purpose. And Galatea informs him that for them to truly coexist, they must find a nexus which will bridge their separate worlds. And the author notices that Galatea is taking on a more physical, 3 D form.
Danny meets with David— his former employee—a tech genius who presents a tech-style answer to Galatea’s appearances. Inexplicably, and when Danny writes about his character he is writing a pseudo-computer code. Worse yet, in his zealousness and effort, he has created a “feedback” loop, affecting both of them: They are each evolving as Danny continues to write fiction and thus “codes” both of their existences, experiences and perhaps their destinies, too. David further speculates that this implies that they all exist—persons and characters alike—in a simulation that they each build shape and design.
Danny is haunted by a “second” character from his book, the character who is the love interest of Galatea in his radio drama. He accuses Danny of “stealing” his girl, and of destabilizing the foundations of existence by “playing” with the code—the code underlies the simulation and yet impacts reality itself. And Danny must acknowledge that by writing Galatea’s fictional character, he is casting a love spell that overrides her free will. Danny’s rival demands that he tell Galatea about what he has done.
Learning of Danny’s machinations, Galatea draws away preferring to live an existence apart from the directives of an author-creator programming her “code” and existence. Danny finally comes to terms with the end of his relationship with his ex, Theresa, and makes peace with her, forgiving her and acknowledging his own role in the failure of the relationship with her. His former partner suggests that forgiveness may set the tone for his personal evolution and a better life. Danny and Galatea discuss her coming across, no strings attached.
Danny’s plan to bring Galatea across to his world threatens both of them and all of existence. He learns that it imperils all of existence per a cosmic guardian he encounters in a dreamscape. The cosmic guardian’s concerns echo the fears expressed by David, the techie, too. Despite the warnings, and despite any romantic commitment, Danny proceeds with his plan to bring Galatea across.

Is it Galatea or ‘Memory-Ex’ Once she is physically present in his world, Galatea disappears. She makes no further contact with Danny. After a time, Danny has gotten on with his life, getting out more, being more sociable and actively dating . Although he never sees Galatea again, one date, a second one, and then a third—all different women— each manifest gestures and a gaze which stunningly mirror Galatea. The drama ends with Danny and the listeners asking themselves: Is it Danny’s imagination or is Galatea still an integral part of his life—without revealing herself— through the myriad of experiences that life has to offer?
