It's another special edition of the Beacon Blether podcast! This time, to mark the 5th anniversary of the Covid lockdown in the UK, we gathered together some of Gorebridge's finest to reminisce about the village's response to the pandemic, and how they coped both professionally and personally with the restrictions. We'll hear how The Beacon organised food deliveries to the community, how local organisations worked together, some amusing lockdown tales, and hear what they would do if a similar pandemic was to happen again (perish the thought!).Gorebridge Community Development Trust – Supporting Gorebridge to bring about its own community enrichment Hosted on Acast. A special pod for you! This episode is a recording of our author event a few weeks ago with Pip Fallow, whose book 'Dragged Up Proppa' describes his upbringing in a County Durham mining town with lots of parallels with Gorebridge.Pip is an inspiring character, with lots of great stories from his past, but he's a campaigner too. He passionately believes in the power of 'Proppa Jobs' to bring meaning to communities, and wants to 're-industrialise' Britain's forgotten communities to reinstate a sense of social cohesion. He's also got some interesting political ideas too, redefining the idea of representation for citizens.Have a listen, hope you enjoy it.Some links:Dragged Up Proppa (Waterstones bio)BBC news item on the 'Proppa Jobs' campaignGorebridge Community Development TrustThe Beacon: Facebook Hosted on Acast. In this (slightly) festive Blether, we hear from Santa ahead of his various appearances at The Beacon, Jim Bryce leads us down memory lane once again in Gorebridge Yesterdays, and Derek has a chat with Gael Robertson, Chair of the Gorebridge Community Council. Plus, we look back on what's been happening and what's coming up at the Beacon and around, including our Winter Festival. Oh, and there's a suitably Christmassy bonus clip of the Gorebridge Community Choir.Email us: beaconblether@gmail.comFacebookInstagram(Please note - our Christmas in the Garden event has been postponed to Sat 14th December.)
