Description

Your government is out of control. It’s doing things it has no business doing.

It spends way too much money. It gets involved in way too many wars. It not only tells you what you can and can’t say—it actively censors you.

And the things your government should do, it can’t, or won’t, do at all.

It can’t keep your streets clean of crime and filth. It can’t keep your neighborhoods safe enough for kids to play outside. It can’t even prevent your country from being invaded by millions of illegal migrants.

Why is that?

Because your leaders no longer represent you. They represent themselves and their friends.

On each episode of "The Signal Sitdown," politics editor Bradley Devlin exposes how the sausage really gets made in Washington, D.C. with the help of guests who have experience on the inside.

"The Signal Sitdown" takes you inside the biggest battles in Washington, D.C., as they happen. We’ll analyze the policymaking process from an unabashedly and unapologetically conservative perspective and together reclaim government from the self-serving elites.

Fingers will be pointed.

Names will be named.

Congress could be heading for another One Big Beautiful Bill. Congressional Republicans are facing a double-bind of a lingering shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security and the urgent need to pass the SAVE America Act, an election integrity bill that would require proof of citizenship to vote and implement nationwide voter ID, before November’s midterm elections. Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, joined “The Signal Sitdown” to discuss where the rapidly-evolving GOP strategy to end the shutdown and secure American elections is heading. This is the number one most important piece of legislation we could be working on right now, Gill told The Daily Signal of the SAVE America Act. We need election integrity because every time an illegal alien votes in our election system, it disenfranchises an American citizen by canceling out their vote. Learn more about your ad choices. In a world where opportunity for women abounds, why are they so unhappy? Emma Waters, a policy analyst in the Center for Technology and the Human Person at The Heritage Foundation and author of a new book titled "Lead Like Jael: 7 Timeless Principles for Today's Women of Faith," has thought deeply about this question and joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss. “Women have more choices before them than ever before. And yet, despite the abundance of choices before them, they are less equipped than ever before with the life script or guidance necessary to make good decisions.” Learn more about your ad choices. Detroit has become the poster child of American decline and for good reason: No city in what is now known as the Rust Belt experienced such soaring highs and such abysmal lows. In the 1950s, Detroit was the wealthiest city in America. By 2014, just one year after the city declared bankruptcy, Detroit was considered the poorest city in America. Detroit is starting to show signs of comeback by courting large investments from some of the companies who brought Detroit to its zenith, such as the Ford Motor Company, and balancing the city’s checkbook. But plenty of problems persist, and the whiplash has left policymakers and every day Americans asking what happened, and what is the way back for cities like Detroit. Rodney Lockwood is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy with a business background in real estate. Lockwood joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to help unpack Detroit’s collapse, the beginnings of its recovery, and share his bold plan to revitalize a forgotten part of the city. “I think Detroit is probably the most prime example,” of the Rust Belt’s collapse, Lockwood told The Daily Signal, “because other cities have not suffered as much as Detroit.” Learn more about your ad choices. Vice President JD Vance’s life has taken him from the hollowed out town of Middletown, Ohio to the halls of power. Between his challenging upbringing, his service in the Marine Corps, his stint in Silicon Valley, his Senate tenure, and now his vice presidency, it’s easy to lose sight of the two short days leading up to President Donald Trump picking Vance as his running mate. Reflect on those two days in the middle of July and you’ll see the distillation of a long career arc for such a young man.  Author Frank DeVito joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss his new book on the vice president, titled “JD Vance and the Future of the Republican Party,” and the role Vance was born to play in American political life. Last week, Jeremy Carl, President Donald Trump’s nominee for assistant secretary of the Bureau of International Organization Affairs at the Department of State, testified on his nomination in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Carl has spent the better part of the last year of his life pursuing this State Department post, at great personal and professional expense. And, fresh off of the hearing in which Senate Democrats sought to destroy his reputation, Carl joined “The Signal Sitdown.”Carl was nominated to be assistant secretary of the Bureau of International Organization Affairs at the Department of State in June 2025. Eight months later, Carl is still waiting to be confirmed to a role that would put him at the nexus of American foreign policy and international organizations like the United Nations. Carl explains what’s wrong with organizations like the United Nations, why international bureaucrats are willing to turn a blind eye, and what America can do to ensure its interests are protected in these forums. Democrats in Washington have also been willing to turn a blind eye to the issues plaguing these international organizations, and they were not very interested in unpacking those issues at Carl’s hearing last week. Instead, Democrats on the committee turned the hearing into a hullabaloo by repeatedly accusing Carl of racism, sexism, antisemitism, and a grab-bag of other forms of bigotry. At several instances, these Democrat senators would make these accusations without asking him a question or giving him an opportunity to defend himself. When they did ask him questions, they would simply cut him off before he could fully answer. 👉For more videos like this, subscribe to The Daily Signal’s YouTube channel and enable notifications to be alerted the second a new video drops: https://www.youtube.com/dailysignal?sub_confirmation=1  Learn more about your ad choices. It’s been five weeks since the U.S. removed former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power. But the question on everyone's mind is what comes next now that Maduro is no longer in power.  State Department Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott joined “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss the plan to stabilize, recover, and transition power in Venezuela. Pigott explained the administration's phased approach to Venezuela.  "First, the stability of Venezuela. Second, the recovery, where you might see the beginnings of investment, in oil infrastructure, for example. Then the third phase being that transition to a longer-term situation where hopefully you have a reliable partner in the region." Minnesota has been on fire for weeks, but this is nothing new for the city of Minneapolis. The last time the city saw organized protests and violent riots at this level was in 2021 during the George Floyd riots.   “They [rioters] are so anxious to distract from what is actually happening in Minnesota, all the massive fraud that’s going on,” Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, told The Daily Signal on the latest episode of “The Signal Sitdown.” The fraud, originally uncovered in Minnesota, is now being discovered in other states. While the fraud was new, these organized and professional protests and violent riots have been popping up across the country for years now.   Duyne joined Daily Signal Politics Editor Bradley Devlin to discuss how she is combating these organized violent riots in Congress using the RICO Act. The RICO Act currently combats organized crime, and Duyne’s Stop FUNDERs Act seeks to broaden RICO to organized violent riots. “One of the reasons why I have introduced my Stop FUNDERs Act is that you are seeing these massive protests against folks like Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” the congresswoman explained.   👉For more videos like this, subscribe to The Daily Signal’s YouTube channel and enable notifications to be alerted the second a new video drops: https://www.youtube.com/dailysignal?sub_confirmation=1 Learn more about your ad choices. Poll after poll shows a growing majority of Americans are against transgender issues and policies, from men in women’s sports to men in women’s bathrooms. Some of these issues are now 80-20 issues.   It’s a remarkable feat, and it also makes one wonder how the conservative movement has had such resounding success against transgenderism when it resoundingly lost a very similar battle, the battle to defend traditional marriage.   Terry Schilling, the president of the American Principles Project, has been a driving force on combatting transgenderism all over the country.   He’s one of the few people who really saw transgenderism coming, and he’s smart enough to have learned from the mistakes made in the fight to protect traditional marriage and apply those lessons to fighting transgenderism.   “I think it's all federal at this point. The states are good for temporary victories that can help build momentum, but we need to get federal victories.” Follow us on Instagram for EXCLUSIVE bonus content and the chance to be featured in our episodes: https://www.instagram.com/problematicwomen/   Connect with our hosts on socials!   Elise McCue X: https://x.com/intent/user?screen_name=EliseMcCue Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elisemccueofficial/   Virginia Allen: X: https://x.com/intent/user?screen_name=Virginia_Allen5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/virginiaallenofficial/   Check out Top News in 10, hosted by The Daily Signal’s Tony Kinnett: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjMHBev3NsoUpc2Pzfk0n89cXWBqQltHY Learn more about your ad choices. America has hit another record, but it’s not a good one. Last year, the median age of the first-time home buyer in America hit 40 years old. In the 1980s, the average age of the first-time homebuyer in America was just 28. What happened? Rep. Pat Harrigan, R-N.C., joins us this week on “The Signal Sitdown” to explain how multi-billion-dollar institutional investors like BlackRock are crowding out younger families from buying homes. “The longer that you delay somebody from getting into that first house, the longer you delay their wealth-building trajectory toward actually putting themselves in a very solid, fiscally responsible position, which is where you want the middle class.”  Follow us on Instagram for EXCLUSIVE bonus content and the chance to be featured in our episodes: https://www.instagram.com/problematicwomen/   Connect with our hosts on socials!   Elise McCue X: https://x.com/intent/user?screen_name=EliseMcCue Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elisemccueofficial/   Virginia Allen: X: https://x.com/intent/user?screen_name=Virginia_Allen5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/virginiaallenofficial/   Check out Top News in 10, hosted by The Daily Signal’s Tony Kinnett: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjMHBev3NsoUpc2Pzfk0n89cXWBqQltHY Learn more about your ad choices. Oversight Project President Mike Howell joined "The Signal Sitdown" this week to discuss a new force analysis conducted by The Oversight Project into the ICE-involved shooting of a woman in Minnesota. "Our team of career law enforcement has carefully reviewed all available evidence and has cleared the officer," the force analysis reads from the Oversight Project, which has more than 60 years of law enforcement experience on its team. "The ICE officer in question is not only innocent, but was entirely justified in his actions.  We pray that the far-left comes to their senses and ends this violence.” Renne Good, 37, was shot last week by an ICE officer after allegedly attempting to run him over in Minneapolis. Within hours, thousands of protestors gathered, and local lawmakers called for ICE to leave the city. "Immediately after that event, every anti-American liberal wacko became a 'use of force' expert, right? You have a lot like Omar [Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.] and others saying this is murder and all the Democrats saying this is murder," Howell said. "It's just incredibly frustrating to watch that because of the effect it has on a population." Through these claims' lawmakers, like Omar, have made, they have convinced this "mentally ill and unhinged population" that you can attempt to block a federal officer from doing their job. Omar did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Signal. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The George Floyd riots in 2020 brought a dark undercurrent of violence on the Left to the forefront of American politics. The violence had its epicenters in progressive cities, but it was very much national—thousands of arrests occurred at hundreds of violent demonstrations in what became the largest civil-unrest-related insurance event in American history. Many of America’s political leaders cowered in the face of this mass hysteria and made commitments to defund the police or ‘reimagine’ law enforcement. The agents of chaos received a powerful message: Violence will get you what you want.  Fast forward to 2024: President Trump is nearly assassinated twice. Today, the nation is still reeling from the public assassination of Charlie Kirk. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has some firsthand experience with the violent Left. In February 2024, a radical Antifa leftist bombed his office. Whether it’s leftist violence, policing, or immigration, Marshall’s tenure as Alabama attorney general, which stretches back to 2017, had touchpoints with almost every major political issue facing America in the last ten years. Now, he’s running for one of Alabama’s seats in the U.S. Senate. One evening, Josh Williams sat on the edge of his bed, gun in hand, and contemplated ending his life. “I was in a pit of despair that I can’t describe to you,” Williams said in his interview on “The Signal Sitdown.” After hearing some terrible news from doctors regarding a traumatic workplace injury, Williams had told his then-wife to take the kids to the store. “I sat on the edge of my bed with my gun, and I was ready to kill myself. And I wrote out my suicide note.” William’s three-year-old son, however, was left behind. Before Williams succumbed to despair and ended his life, his son walked in the room and said “Daddy, I’m hungry.” “I tucked my gun away, and I grabbed my kid, and I cried,” Williams said. “Man, I cried for hours.” When his wife returned home, Williams confronted her about leaving their three-year-old behind. “She said something kept telling her to leave him behind,” Williams recalled. “She couldn’t explain it.” “Now, later on, I know that was God working in his own mysterious ways, that he sent one of his foot soldiers in that day to save my life because he had a bigger assignment for me,” Williams told The Daily Signal. The worst thing that has ever happened to the Capitol Building? “Air conditioning,” says Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn. Burchett joined ”The Signal Sitdown” at the Republican Study Committee's new media row to discuss how a group he calls the “war pimps” came to dominate Washington—and what he’s doing to try to stop them. Installing air conditioning in the Capitol, Burchett said, gave members of Congress the wrong impression: “These guys think they need to be year round,” he said, “I do more work when I'm at home, brother. This is a show up here.” Burchett explained that “a war pimp is somebody who profits off war and or that enjoys war because it furthers their career.” And this advancement is not only political, but financial. “Congress is infinitely broken and we are crooked as a dog's leg.” Subscribe to The Tony Kinnett Cast:    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-tony-kinnett-cast/id1714879044   Don't forget our other shows: Virginia Allen's Problematic Women: https://www.dailysignal.com/problematic-women  Bradley Devlin's The Signal Sitdown: https://www.dailysignal.com/the-signal-sitdown  Follow The Daily Signal:  X: https://x.com/DailySignal  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailysignal/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDailySignalNews/  Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@DailySignal  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DailySignal  Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/TheDailySignal    Thanks for making The Daily Signal Podcast your trusted source for the day’s top news. The question top of mind in Washington, D.C. right now is what is the United States trying to get out of ongoing operations in Venezuela?  Very rarely is it the case that the question occupying minds on Capitol Hill and in think tanks is the same question everyday Americans are asking. But what’s happening between America and Venezuela right now is a rare exception.  A recent CBS/YouGov poll found that 76% of Americans believe the administration needs to explain its position on the use of military force in Venezuela. The same poll found that 53% are in support of the strikes against the narco-terrorists looking to bring drugs into the United States, but 70% of Americans are against taking military action in Venezuela. On Tuesday, Trump told reporters at a cabinet meeting that "we're going to start doing those strikes on land” in Venezuela, too. To provide that explanation, Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson is on this week’s episode of "The Signal Sitdown" about the Department of War’s ongoing operations in our near abroad.  Keep Up With The Daily Signal Sign up for our email newsletters: https://www.dailysignal.com/email     Subscribe to our other shows: Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words:  https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL9753340027 The Tony Kinnett Cast: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL2284199939 The Signal Sitdown: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL2026390376   Problematic Women: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL7765680741     Follow The Daily Signal:    X: https://x.com/intent/user?screen_name=DailySignal Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailysignal/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDailySignalNews/  Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@DailySignal  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/dailysignal?sub_confirmation=1    Subscribe on your favorite podcast platform and never miss an episode. The 2026 midterms are shaping up to be one of the most consequential midterm elections in modern American history. In November 2024, the American people gave Republicans the trifecta—the White House, the Senate, and the House—a mandate victory that some conservatives did not think possible. Democrats were already expected to have the advantage heading into the 2026 midterms, but  impressive Democrat wins in off-year elections just one year after their thorough electoral embarrassment has cemented the idea that Democrats are poised to make a comeback. As Republicans look to break a blue wave before it crests, Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., joins “The Signal Sitdown” to discuss the 2026 midterm elections and his bid to become the next governor of South Carolina. Norman is looking to leave Washington and head back to South Carolina because “Congress is irredeemable.” Keep Up With The Daily Signal Sign up for our email newsletters: https://www.dailysignal.com/email     Subscribe to our other shows: Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words:  https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL9753340027 The Tony Kinnett Cast: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL2284199939 The Signal Sitdown: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL2026390376   Problematic Women: https://megaphone.link/THEDAILYSIGNAL7765680741     Follow The Daily Signal:    X: https://x.com/intent/user?screen_name=DailySignal Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailysignal/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDailySignalNews/  Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@DailySignal  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/dailysignal?sub_confirmation=1    Subscribe on your favorite podcast platform and never miss an episode. While the congressional drama is coming to a close, a new chapter in the Epstein story could just be opening. What could more tranches of Epstein documents reveal, and what questions remain about Epstein’s activities and elite network? As a member of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. The horrific slaughter of Christians in Nigeria has caught the attention of President Donald Trump and the United States government. Trump has tapped Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.V., to provide a report about the situation unfolding in Nigeria, where estimates place the number of slaughtered Christians well over 50,000 since 2009, with more than 7,000 of these deaths having occurred in 2025 alone.  In Congress, Moore was one of the first voices drawing attention to the intensifying atrocities committed against Christians in Nigeria, and he joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss. “Nigeria is the most dangerous countries on the face of the planet to be a Christian,” Moore told The Daily Signal. “This has been happening for a very long time, and it's getting worse and worse and worse every year.” Subscribe to The Tony Kinnett Cast:    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-tony-kinnett-cast/id1714879044   Don't forget our other shows: Virginia Allen's Problematic Women: https://www.dailysignal.com/problematic-women  Bradley Devlin's The Signal Sitdown: https://www.dailysignal.com/the-signal-sitdown  Follow The Daily Signal:  X: https://x.com/DailySignal  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailysignal/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDailySignalNews/  Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@DailySignal  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DailySignal  Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/TheDailySignal    Thanks for making The Daily Signal Podcast your trusted source for the day’s top news. California voters greenlit Gov. Gavin Newsom’s war against President Donald Trump for control in the 2026 midterms.  Voters in California approved of Proposition 50, a ballot measure that allows Newsom and Democrats to take control of redistricting from the state’s independent commission, by an overwhelming margin—nearly 2-to-1. Democrat victory in the Proposition 50 fight, not to mention the other off-year elections, is the Left’s strongest sally yet in what has become known as the redistricting wars. Hans von Spakovsky, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, joins “The Signal Sitdown” to discuss. “What Prop 50 does is it temporarily takes away the power from the independent redistricting commission to draw up congressional districts so the Legislature can do it, and they're going to use that power to redraw the congressional districts,” von Spakovsky told The Daily Signal. A 2008 referendum first established the independent redistricting commission that California voters rejected Tuesday. For the past half decade or more, conservative intellectuals have tried to answer the question: Where did woke come from?  Some believe it is rebranded cultural Marxism. Others say it came from academia with the postmodern rejection of objective truth ultimately leading to the weaponization of culture. Maybe it came from the global corporations because woke is the ideology of the new managerial elite in late-stage neo-liberalism. But perhaps “woke” and its offspring like “cancel culture” came from something called “The Great Feminization.”  Helen Andrews, author of “Boomers: The Men and Women Who Promised Freedom and Delivered Disaster,” recently wrote an essay called “The Great Feminization,” a term borrowed from the pseudonymous online writer J Stone, that explains how “woke” is “an epiphenomenon of demographic feminization.” She joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss. “We had a big fight called feminism in the 1970s over whether or not we thought women could be lawyers. And we decided that they could, and that's great,” Andrews explained. “But it took a long time to go from token representation of the kind that was achieved in the heyday of second wave feminism to what we have now.”  Learn more about your ad choices.
