This past week in the NHL the trade wire was lit up for a minute as the Pittsburgh Penguins were active. There's also been a couple of benchmarks in the NHL set that we'll talk all about.
The week for the Capitals was a bit of a roller coaster that ended with a crash into a dumpster. While the Caps did escape the week with a few points, they did not earn enough as they now sit on the brink of the playoffs.

This week the NHL trade market was just blown open as the Pens moved Jarry to the Oilers for Skinner and Quinn Hughes netted a huge return for the Canucks as he heads to Minnesota. League wide we'll also have some injury updates that could have Olympic implications.
Your Washington Capitals did not have the week they wanted escaping this last week with only 1 point in the standings. The Metro Division is still an absolute bloodbath and this lack of points has seen the Caps drop to the 3rd division spot.

The Washington Capitals have finally found a scoring touch and have seemingly bucked the bad puck luck they were having during the start of the season as they have turned in a perfect week. Caps got scoring from all over the lineup including a 10 game point streak and 5 game goal streak by Jacob Chychrun.
This week brings the Caps into a divisional playoff spot at least for the time being as the Metro division and the Eastern Conference in general is a bloodbath.

Existence is pain everybody. The Caps are struggling right now to produce points on the ice and in the standings. It's grim. The highlight of the team is definitely 5on5 play and goaltending which you would think would be enough to earn some standings points but it's not.
The Metropolitan Division is stacked right now with every team in the division at least with a .500 record. The Washington Capitals are dead last in the division and in the basement of the conference.
There's a ton of hockey left to play but it would be regretful to lose out on the playoffs due to a bad stretch at the beginning of the season.

THE NHL IS BACK!!!
Thanks for tuning in Caps fans! We're glad to be back for season 7 of The Official Caps Chirp Podcast. We're kicking this season off with a bit of a look at preseason for the Caps where they went 5-1 and we'll get into the regular season where the Caps face the Boston Bruins on Wednesday Oct. 8. The Bruins are the only team that the Caps lost to in the preseason so it should be a great matchup to kick off the 2025-2026 NHL season.
