Luke Likes 'Sick Of It'Sick of it, sick of it. I'm sick, I'm sick and also I am sick of this, I am sick of it. Yeah. So when you say you are sick of something, you are sick of it, it is just too much for you and you can't stand it anymore. So you are tired of that and you just hate it. And me? Well, I am sick of being sick because I'm sick again, I'm sick, oh jeez, I am sick again and I can't stand it. It is not a big deal. so in English when you say it is not a big deal, you mean it is not a big problem, it is not a big deal, but still, still I am sick and I am not quite right. So I am tired, first of all, I feel tired and well, I keep coughing, I keep coughing, which is not a good thing, not a good thing, I did have a little fever, but not anymore, so that's a good thing, I'm getting better, and I'm having a bit of trouble speaking, you might hear that in my voice. Oh, and oh, also I am sick of that, I'm sick of that too, I have a runny nose, runny nose. So again, not a big deal, but well annoying, that's what I would say, that's annoying, annoying. And I'm wondering, I am wondering - why do I keep catching a cold, why do I keep catching this horrible cold? Am I doing something wrong here, am I doing something wrong? People keep telling me that I should boost my immune system, in other words, because that's quite complicated, I'm not a doctor here, in other words, help my body a little bit, defend itself, defend, so that I don't keep getting sick so much. Yeah, so let me have a look at some ideas. So they say, do you sleep enough, meaning seven, eight, maybe more hours a night? Well I do, I do, I get to seven, I get to seven, sometimes, sometimes even more. And then, do you eat nutritious food, nutritious? So that's diet rich in, rich in vegetables, fruits, protein and some elements, and I think I do, again I think I do. Hey, maybe do you exercise regularly, do you exercise? And yes, of course, I love that, I love that, so it must be something else here, it must be, something else. Do you wash your hands regularly? So do you practice good hygiene, practice good hygiene? Well I'm not bad at that.So maybe alcohol, smoking, fast food, anything? Nope, nope, I don't do that either, I don't do that either, and still I'm sick. So how about this, do you supplement, supplement your diet with vitamins, some nutrients, minerals? And yes I do, I do. So what is wrong here? Well, I'm sick of that. So here comes the last one, are you stressed, and do you take time to relax regularly, take time to relax? Well, I thought I did, I thought, to be honest, I'm not so sure about that. But I know what I'm gonna do right now. Just sit back, listen to my favorite podcast and do nothing,Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'It Turns Out'Bad day, oh sometimes I do, I do have a bad day, not usually I suppose, not, usually I suppose not. Well I hope not, no definitely not, definitely not. But that was the case, that was the case, well yesterday, yesterday. So I woke up, I woke up thinking, oh, this is going to be a perfect day, a perfect day. Just look at this weather, look at this weather, it is going to be just wonderful. Well it turns out, it turns out, it turns out, well it wasn't, it wasn't. It was cloudy, I could not see the sun, I could not see their sun at all, so that was disappointing and a bad start of the day. So I got off, got off to a bad start, meaning it started badly. Yeah I took it as a sign, I took it as a sign, because the whole day was like that. So as usual I wanted to make my breakfast, oatmeal obviously, and to my surprise, to my surprise, it turns out, it turns out, well I didn't have any, I didn't have any, so I couldn't prepare my breakfast, which by the way very rarely happens, very. Anyway, anyway I still had my coffee, my morning coffee, yeah it won't be that bad, I thought, it won't. Well it turns out, it turns out, well I have run out of coffee as well, I have run out, so no coffee left. Oh god. Okay, that was my fault, but come on, breakfast and coffee, running out at the same time, on the same day, and the same morning. That was just bad luck,Well I will just drink my green tea instead, instead, I thought. Hey do I have green tea? Yeah, so I checked and yes I did, I did, but it turns out, it turns out, while I was opening the box, the tea box, so the box that I keep my green tea in, well, was left open, was left open, and I did that, was left open and while I was reaching, reaching for it out of the cabinet, it fell on the floor, and the tea spilled, spilled all over the place. Oh my. Seriously? On the same day, just a bad bad day, what else could go wrong here, what else?, I thought, because obviously that was not the end, that wasn't, that wasn't the end.So later on, later on I had two appointments with furniture people, two separate appointments, and well, yeah, you guessed all right, you guessed it. It turns out that the first one, the first guy, called me and said that he was too busy to come, too busy. And the other one, well, it turns out he didn't even text me, or call me. He just didn't show up at all, so he didn't come. Yeah, that's what happened. So overall not the best day of my life, I must say,. And you know what, you know what? Turns out, it turns out, Friday 13th is coming up, Friday 13th, and just can't wait to see what will happen on that day, Just can't wait.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'You Know Why'Hey, the spring, the spring is here. Oh my God! The spring is sort of here. Not in the calendar, it is not in the calendar. But yeah, it is outside. I can see it right now, I can feel it, I can smell it. Yeah, and I can hear it. Yeah, I can hear it too. It is definitely here, it is definitely here. That's why, that is why, that's why I do have a lot of energy. Yeah, I do, and I want to use it today. That is why, that's why I am now recording this episode. That's why, that's why I'm doing that.Yeah, and outside, outside, it is getting warmer. And that's why people spend more time outdoors, outside, outdoors. Yeah, me too, me too. It is getting warmer, that's why people change, change their clothes. Yeah, they change into something lighter, something more springy, summery. Oh, maybe not summery yet, maybe not. But definitely something lighter.Oh, oh, oh, and the day is much longer. That's why, that's why we get more of the sunlight, which, which by the way, by the way, is very, very needed. Oh my God, I need the sun, I need sunlight. So it is the beginning of March and the beginning of spring. That's why, that's why people feel more optimistic, optimistic. Yeah, you can feel it, you can feel it. It will not last, so it will not continue, it will not last very long, I'm sure. But right now, people are feeling optimistic, more optimistic. That's why they plan things, they plan things. Hey, how about we change the colour of these walls. Hey, maybe, maybe, maybe we could go on a trip. Or, oh, let's, let's learn a new language. Yeah, not a bad idea at all, not a bad idea. That's why, that's why spring is amazing, it's an amazing time of the year. So like I said, I have plenty of energy, a lot of, plenty of energy right now and I want you, I want you, I want you to notice, to see something in this episode, to see something in it.Why, why?, you might ask. Why? Because, because this is your English practice, that's why. And because you want to be better, that's why. Why, why, why?, you might ask. Well, because you want to communicate in English, you want to understand and you want to speak, that's why.But why, why, why?, you might ask again. Well, because you want to travel and see new places and meet new people, that's why.But why, why?, you might ask again. Why? Well, because you like it, it is fun and exciting, that's why.But why, again, why? Well, that's why!So now you know.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Makes Sense'Does it make any sense? Does it make any sense to you what I am saying? Does it make any sense? Well, I really, really hope that it makes sense. It makes a lot of sense because this is the point. This is the point to understand what I am saying and to make sense out of all of that.Yeah, so make sure it makes sense to you and while doing that, while you are doing that, make sure you are using your senses. Do you know what senses are? Let me explain a little bit to you.First, use your ears and listen, listen. Can you hear me? Can you hear my voice? Can you? Is it low? Is it high? No, it isn't high. Yeah, not high at all. It sounds low. It sounds low. I'm sure you can hear it.So that's ears and now open your eyes and look, look, look around. What can you see? Can you see me? I'm right in front of you. I'm right in front of you. You should see me. No, actually you should hear me. Just hear me. So what can you see? Me, I'm looking out of the window and I can see it is raining. It is raining right now. I can see it and I can hear it actually. I'm looking and I can also see that it is getting dark. Yeah, that's right. Actually it looks like a night, but it isn't. It looks like that. But now, close your eyes and use your nose. Yeah, you heard me right. Use your nose and smell it, smell it. What can you smell? What can you smell? Hey, can you smell me? Oh, that would be really weird. Anyway, I can smell some wood, some wood, wood. Must be my wooden floor. It smells, it smells of wood. And I can smell a bit of cedar wood, cedar wood. That's from my candle, from my candle. Love cedar wood. It smells just wonderful.Use your mouth. Yep, use your mouth and taste it, taste it. Tell me, what does it taste like? What does it taste like? Wait, wait, wait. It tastes, it tastes good. That's my tea, that's my hot tea. Black tea, so it tastes a little bitter, bitter, not very sweet. Also, I can taste some spices in it, but I'm not sure what they are. Is it cinnamon? It might be. It tastes like cinnamon a little bit. So that's mouth. And finally, use your fingers, use your fingers. Reach your right hand in front of you and touch whatever is in front of you. What does it feel like? Wait, that's my computer and it feels smooth, smooth and hot. Well, maybe not hot, but warm. It feels warm when I touch it.So, does it make any sense right now? What does it look like? And what does it sound like? What does it smell like? And what does it taste like? And finally, what does it feel like?It might sound very complicated, I know. But, look, listen, smell, taste and touch. Then you will understand.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'The Olympics'Yeah, Luke likes the Olympics, Luke likes sports, so also Luke likes the Olympics, the Olympic Games, Summer Olympics or Winter Olympics. It doesn't really matter because it's all fascinating.Yeah, and when it comes to the Winter Olympics, oh my, this is crazy and awesome at the same time. Crazy because, well, look at those athletes, athletes that show such incredible skills, skills. So it is awesome that at the same time, oh, come on, that is so risky and could be really dangerous, dangerous. Especially some sports, some disciplines, disciplines. So this time around, the Olympics take place in Milano Cortina, which is Italy. And as you know, the Olympics are held, are held, so take place, are held every four years, every four years. So you have to wait really long for the Olympic Games. So the athletes from around the world, from around the world compete, compete in disciplines that you might hear for the first time, for the first time in your life. Yeah, this is the beauty of the Winter Olympics. So there is obviously skiing, skiing disciplines where athletes race, race down the hill, down the hill and whoever crosses, crosses the finish line first, well, wins, wins, wins a gold medal, a gold medal. Second, wins a silver one, a silver medal and whoever comes third, wins a bronze medal. But wait, these can get crazier than that. How about putting on a pair of skis and trying to jump in them? Yeah, you heard me right, you heard me right, people do that. Jumping off a big hill and landing after, well, over 100 meters. Yeah, and whoever lands the furthest, the furthest, wins. As simple as that, and so crazy and awesome at the same time.So hills and slopes, hills and slopes are just some of the venues, so places, venues where those competitions, competitions take place. But there is also an ice skating rink, ice skating rink and ice tracks, yeah, where athletes, well, go ice skating, where athletes race, race each other. That's speed skating, speed skating. They dance, that's incredible. That's figure skating, obviously, figure skating and finally the team sport, the team sport of ice hockey, where skaters, skaters with sticks, sticks and protective gear, they look quite scary to be honest, try to score a goal, score a goal while skating at the same time. How crazy is this? Yeah, it is crazy. Also, let's not forget about snowboard or curling, curling. Do you know what that is? Well, google it, google it. Cross country, cross country skiing, bobsleigh and so on and so on. Just can't wait for the action, can't wait to see all these skilled athletes compete. And then the Paralympic Games for disabled athletes, so people with disabilities, disabilities, disabled athletes, which is even crazier to watch. So can't wait, hope to have a lot of fun, II'm going to support, support my athletes and can't stop wondering - how on earth are they doing that?I guess I'll never know.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Myself'Luke likes himself, I like myself and I hope, I hope you like yourself. Myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, itself.Do know these in English and do know how to use them, how to use them, how to use them yourself, yourself. Well, let's see, let's see.Oh, that's a good one, enjoy yourself. Hmm, so I can say, I hope you are enjoying yourself right now, listening to this episode, you are enjoying yourself. Cool, cool, thanks.Introduce yourself, meaning meet someone and say who you are. Introduce yourself. So the other day, I met this guy and he forgot to introduce himself. He forgot to, maybe he didn't, maybe he didn't, maybe he just didn't want to introduce himself to me, because he's a spy. Maybe.Look at yourself, look at yourself. Hmm, she looked at herself in the mirror and thought, 'Well, what do I wear today? What do I wear today?' Sounds familiar? Does it sound familiar? Well, I will not answer this question. Myself. Talk to yourself. Oh, that's a good one again, because I do, I do talk to myself, because that's a great way to practice your languages. I do talk to myself. Myself, yourself, himself, herself, and itself. And now, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves. Ourselves, yourselves, themselves.Do you get it? I'm sure you do. I'm sure you can do it yourselves, but let's have a look together. We are enjoying ourselves here, we are enjoying ourselves. After this episode, you should try and practice these sentences, yourselves, practice these sentences, yourselves, yourselves. That's right, without me. Oh, a little bit with me too.Okay, for example, they are preparing themselves, because they are leaving tomorrow. They are preparing themselves.Myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself.Ourselves, yourselves, themselves.Well, that's a little selfish, selfish episode, because it's always, always, always about ourselves. So now, you do it yourselves. Talk to yourselves, enjoy yourselves, help yourselves, and remember, always be yourselves. And maybe don't blame yourselves when you make a mistake.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'New And Old'New, new, new things, new places, new people, new, hmm, experiences. Do you like things to be new? Do you like new things to happen? Oh yeah, sure. Oh, that's new, that's amazing, that's exciting. Or do you prefer things to be old? Well, maybe the same and unchanged, unchanged.A new car, for example. That's good, it's fast, it's modern, modern and, well, reliable. So when you say it is reliable, it doesn't break too often. Reliable. And it is fancy. New car, fancy car, fancy. So people like it, it's nice to look at and maybe a little expensive. Fancy. An old car, an old car, on the other hand, well, can break a lot, can break down a lot and not so fancy, maybe a little dirty here and there. Also, not so fast, I'm sure and not as economical, economical as the new one either. But, but, yeah, it's familiar, familiar. If it is familiar, we know it very, very well. It is familiar and easy to use, obviously. In a way, it is like an old friend. Do you know what I mean? I'm sure you do.New and old, new and old. A new place. A new place is exciting. It is interesting and there is a lot to explore in it. It is unknown, unknown, so maybe sometimes easy to feel a little lost, feel lost and confused. Sometimes you can't know what to expect. Sometimes something good, sometimes not as good.An old place, on the other hand, an old place is familiar again and comfortable. Not very surprising and a little, hmm, predictable. When you say it is predictable, you know exactly what is going to happen, predictable. So in a way, it can be safe and cozy. Yeah, a new place and an old place. And the same goes for people. For example, a new champion and an old champion. New versus old. Is one better than the other? Well, it is new. A new champion is young and energetic, strong and hungry for success, hungry for success. Wants more and more. A new champion is flashy, flashy, so attractive and impressive, showing a lot of skill and talent. Yeah, and an old champion, on the other hand, an old champion might not be as flashy, is much, much older and definitely slower and not as healthy, yeah. But still, still, there is a lot of skill, plenty of experience, plenty of memories, a big, big heart and a lot of respect for the old, Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Superstitious'That's a difficult word for today, superstitious, superstitious. Are you superstitious? When you ask somebody if they are superstitious, you ask if they believe that some events cannot be explained, cannot be explained by science or reason, so in a logical way. Especially if this event can bring bad luck or good luck. A black cat for example, or breaking a mirror. Do you know what I mean? Superstitious. I am not, I am really not, but, but... So here is what happened. So the other day, the other day, which means a few days ago, I had this dream that I bought a new car and just got it. Oh that was beautiful, I was so excited and obviously I wanted to show it to my family and friends and share this happiness with them. So I drove to my family's place and on the way, just in front of the place, just in front, there was a big stone in the middle of the street and I hit it so hard that I ruined, I ruined, so I broke, the wheel of the brand new car,I was devastated, devastated, so very, very upset. I felt embarrassed, embarrassed, so I felt ashamed because come on, that's a new car and it is already ruined. So I called my brother for help because I can always count on him, I can always count, so he's always ready to help. And then I woke up. Are you with me so far? Are you with me? Nothing really strange, we all have dreams like that from time to time. So I woke up and went to work as usual. And during my break I decided to stop by, so visit for a little while, stop by my family's place. There was my brother over there and I shared, I shared this story, the dream, with him. We laughed a little and he said, 'I'm waiting for your call, I am waiting for your call'. But in fact my mom called and asked my brother to help her with the shopping, to bring it upstairs. So I said, 'I will take care, I will take care of that. It is my turn to help'. So I did and I was a little late, so I was in a little hurry. And while I was doing that, while I was carrying the shopping bags, our neighbour slipped and fell down in the street, right in the middle of the street. So I rushed, so I ran quickly, I rushed to help her get up obviously. I must add that the street was very slippery and it was covered with ice, so there was ice on it, it was covered with ice and it was snowing, it was snowing. Pretty bad conditions.Anyway, I rushed to help her get up and, well, while I was doing that I slipped and fell down just next to her. You can imagine it was quite funny to look at. Comedy. Well, it wasn't a comedy for me because I slipped and fell down on my back and landed straight, well, you might not believe that, I landed straight on a stone, which was part of the street. I remember I was lying there for a few seconds because I couldn't believe what just happened, next to this poor lady. After some time we got up and we felt quite alright then, but still a little shaken, shaken, so a little shocked, we could say.But the weird thing, the strange thing, the weird thing is that the stone which I fell on, I fell on and hurt my back so hard, I can feel it right now, was in fact in the exact same place as the stone from my dream. So, I'm not superstitious, I am not, but weird things do happen. Later I found out that dreaming about a stone means nothing good for your health, that's pretty obvious, but also financial success. So let's stick to that. I will need it for the doctors.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Quickly'Yeah, let's do it, quickly, quick - quickly. I am quick. Let's do it quickly. No time, no time to lose, no time to lose.So quickly, quickly, my father is the guy who walks very quickly, he walks very quickly and my neighbours noticed, so it means they saw, they noticed it very quickly. Yeah, he is quite known for that. Thanks to that, thanks to that, he can do things quickly, shopping for example.Carefully, carefully, carefully. Oh I know, you have to walk carefully right now because you might fall down. Yeah, there is a lot of snow and ice right now. So listen carefully, listen carefully and try to cross the street carefully. Alright?Oh, slow - slowly, slowly, slowly. I am speaking to you slowly, slowly so that you can follow what I am trying to say. And please repeat that slowly after me so that it will slowly get easier and easier. Hopefully, so I hope, hopefully, hopefully.Suddenly, sudden - suddenly, which means it is unexpected, unexpected. Like suddenly, he stopped talking. And suddenly, I understood, I understood. Suddenly, I realised what this episode is about. Good for you. And finally, finally... Badly, bad - badly, like today, today's game. Yeah, because the team played badly, horribly. They played awfully. Badly, horribly, awfully. And people start asking, hey, they don't get paid so badly, do they? Get paid badly, Yeah, they don't, they don't. Actually they get paid, 'goodly'? No, no, they get paid, well. Good - well. Can you see the difference? Because that's quite special. Yeah, we love special, I'm sure.Good - well. You speak English very well, I hope you see that, I hope you hear that. And you are doing, you are doing very well, so you are doing that without any problems, very well, Okay, so here's another one, a special one.Hard - 'hardly'? No, not really. For example, I work very hard. This job is very hard and I'm sure you are studying really hard.Late. That's an interesting one. I went to bed late and I got up late, not 'lately'. Unfortunately. Unfortunately my train didn't come late, yeah. Unfortunately, because I missed it.Fast - 'fastly'? Not really. I am not speaking very fast. You are a fast learner. You get things fast, so you understand things fast. And if you have a goal, and I'm sure you do, you will get there fast.So to recap, quick - quickly, bad - badly, sudden - suddenly, careful - carefully. Do you get it? But listen carefully, especially when it's hard, fast and late, and then you will do well. Enjoy! Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Happy Old Year'Happy, happy old year, and the new year too, obviously. Happy new year 2026. But was 2025 a happy year? Was it? I'm pretty sure it was, I hope it was, because I must say that I have asked this question, 'How was 2025 for you? How was it?' I have asked many people this question, and they all said it was pretty good. It was pretty good, or even awesome. It was awesome. Nobody even said, nobody, not even one person said that it was bad. So, my conclusion is, the next year is always, always better than the previous year. Is it logical? Not really, not really, it's not how it works. But let's say for a moment, let's say it is like that. And I hope it is, because it means that the next year, and the next one, and the next one, and every year to come is going to be even a little better than the previous, previous one. That would be great, that would be awesome. So I have asked this question, it's time for me to answer, I suppose. So 'hey, Luke, hey Luke, how was 2025 for you? How was it? Awesome?' If I am being honest, if I'm being honest with you, I'm not fond of, so I don't like, I am not fond of talking about the past. Looking back on what happened is just not my thing, I don't really know why, I usually don't do that. But alright, today I will give it a try, I will give it a go. So let's recap, recap. And now, let me think also. So when it comes to health, because this is what people wish other people, I mean staying in shape, to be in the best of health, to be in the best of health, well, that was overall, overall, so in general, overall very very good. Except for one occasion, but with the help of family and friends, I got over that, I got over, so I got better pretty quickly. And when it comes to work, yeah, that was a busy year, and I'm not sure if this is good or bad, because I do feel that I work a little too much. But I do enjoy that. So yeah, a very good year, a lot of work. Wow, I'm so happy, I didn't realise that the year 2025 was that successful, successful.Ok, and at home I did some small renovations and bought a few things, but I haven't finished yet, so I would say work in progress, could be a little better. And now, people and relationships. Well, like in life, I got along with some people, so I had a good relationship with some of them and my family members, but I could do a little better. Yeah, I have to admit, I have to be honest, I have to admit. Work in progress here too.Ok, and finally, goals, my goals. Well, I didn't make any resolutions back in 2025, but I was quite consistent, consistent, so I stuck to, I was consistent with what is important for me, so staying fit and keeping on studying languages, obviously. And I am very very satisfied with my results, well, I don't want to brag, I'm sorry, but I could see progress, And oh, I did start learning a new language, which is Portuguese.I love it, I'm excited, and I'm looking forward to 2026, the new language year. FFor me, and for you as well. Keep up the good work.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Repair'Do you want to know the truth? The truth about the world and life? I will tell you. The truth is that things get broken. Get broken so they no longer work. Get broken.Hey, who did that? Who broke that? Not me, not me. So who did that? Just got broken. I had nothing to do with that. I had nothing to do. It got broken by itself. Yeah, let's go with that. Let's go with that.So things happen, things get broken. We can't do anything about it, can we? Definitely I can't. I can't do anything about it. I know nothing about repairing things or fixing things. So I just try and stay away from it. And, well, leave it to the pros. Leave it to the people that, well, they know what they are doing. The specialists, engineers, and craftsman, craftsman. And I am telling you all about that because the other day, so not a long time ago, the other day, I was preparing my meal, my evening meal on my stove, on my stove, so the place, the top that you prepare your meals on, and you can heat them.So while I was heating, I was heating my meal, it all went out, went out, so suddenly it stopped working. It is an electrical device, an appliance used in the kitchen so it needs electricity and suddenly it stoped working just like that. It got broken. Hey, I had nothing to do with that. I had nothing to do with it. Not my fault. So it all went out. And I couldn't turn it back on again. Turn it back on. Well, I tried a few things like restarting the device. This is basically all I could do. This is where my knowledge and skills end when things get broken. And well, the obvious step is for me to take it in for repair. And that would involve, that would mean, that would involve, well, a lot of time, and of course I would have to pay the costs of any repairs, because the stove is no longer under any guarantee. Unfortunately, obviously. So what can I do? What can I do? What can I do? Me? Nothing. My brother. Ha! He is the repairman in the family. He has always been. And it's so impressive to watch. It's like watching a magician. So he comes over to my place. Disconnects, disconnects the device and removes it, removes it from the top, because it is sort of built in the worktop. And then starts to dismantle, dismantle the device. So takes away all the bits and pieces step by step so that it is all like Lego bricks. Screw after screw, piece after piece. And it's so tiny. Oh my! Tiny and fragile. So you have to be careful not to break it.So he does all of that. And after around 2-3 hours we are in, we are in, and we can see it all, including the tiny little piece. The little bastard! That is all to blame. Yeah. So this little small piece is the culprit. The culprit, so somebody or something that is responsible, for all this mess. And that's a very impressive job that my brother did. And me?Well still nothing to do with that. I just hope to come back to cooking. And if next time something gets broken, my brother will definitely handle that, and find the culprit again.Because I had nothing to do with that. It's not me, obviously.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Meet Adriana'Oh, Adriana. Adriana. Meet Adriana. Do you know her? Do you know her, Adriana? You know, the flight attendant. Flight attendant. So, a person who helps you out on a plane, on a plane. A flight attendant. No, you don't? You don't know Adriana? You don't? Okay, I'm gonna be honest, I am gonna be honest with you, I don't know her either. I don't. But, but, she is gonna help us here. Not on a plane. But, to make a point. To make a point here. And, tell us, tell us a little story, a little story. Hope you enjoy it. So, let's start over. Let's start over. Meet Adriana. She is a flight attendant and she flies a plane, she flies a plane. She helps people feel comfortable on the flight and she often spends time in a cockpit. Maybe. Maybe that's true. Maybe not. Anyway, she flies a lot. And, she visits lots of places. Lots of interesting cities. So far, so far, she has visited LA. She has been to Mexico City and she has been to Rio. And, I'm sure she has seen many, many other cool cities around the world. So, she has visited lots of interesting cool places. In fact, she is on the plane right now. She is flying, she is flying. But, I don't know where. I don't know where. But, again, she is helping people around. And, making them comfortable during the flight. During the flight. For example. Oh, look at this man. He is sleeping right now. He is sleeping. He needs a blanket. How about I go and bring him a warm blanket. He is sleeping. Are you with me? Are you with me so far? I hope you are.So, as I said. As I said. Adriana has been to lots of places. But, she has never been, she has never been to New York. She hasn't been. So, one day, one day I'm sure, I'm sure she will fly to New York. That's her big dream. Maybe next year. Maybe this will be next year. Who knows? Who knows? Maybe she is going to, she is gonna, she is going to fly this big, big, huge jumbo jet. Have you ever flown this big thing? Have you? I haven't. Anyway. She is flying right now. Again, don't know where. She is flying and, in a moment, in a moment they will be flying over the mountains, they will be flying over the mountains. What a view! What a wonderful view of the mountains! Hope you can get a window seat. A window seat. So, Adriana is a young flight attendant. Because she finished, she finished an air training school three years ago, three years ago. So, she is gaining, gaining, so getting, gaining experience right now.She used to fly, she used to fly a different plane. And, well, people used to fly different planes, and, on one occasion, on one occasion while she was flying to Mexico, she was flying to Mexico, a funny thing happened. Because a man proposed to her! A man proposed to her on a plane. So, he wanted to marry her, while she was flying. Oh my goodness! She said no, she said no. So, that's an incredible situation. She has those from time to time. Like the other day, the other day, so not a long time ago, a passenger wanted to get on the plane, get on the plane. But, he didn't have a boarding car. He didn't. So, she said 'I would let you, I would let you in, I would let you in if you had a boarding car. Obviously, he didn't. So, he couldn't get on the plane. So, that's it. That's Adriana and her fascinating life story. And different, different situations she was in. Well, like you. Me and everyone. And, this is how you want to talk about it. So, go ahead and try.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Cozy'Yeah, I am feeling comfortable. I'm so comfortable over here, staying in and not going out, anyway. Pretty cozy. Pretty cozy. Do use this word in English, cozy? Yeah, a pretty nice word, which you can use when you feel comfortable and, well, sort of safe. But the most important part is you're feeling warm and relaxed. Cozy. Cozy little place by the fire, by the fire, for example. So nothing better than feeling cozy on a December afternoon and evening. When it's pretty dark outside and not too cozy, not too cozy when you go out. So staying in and enjoying the cozy atmosphere, which starts, in my opinion, which starts with a hot, hot drink. And no surprises here. Here it is, here it is, my hot tea. But this time, this time round, garnished, garnished, okay, so decorated, with, well, plenty, plenty of stuff. Cozy stuff. Very fancy, very fancy.Such as, hmm, what do we have in here? A slice of orange, obviously. A few cranberries, cranberries. Do you know what they are? Cranberries. Yes, please, look it up, cranberries. Then cinnamon, cinnamon stick, actually, cinnamon stick and ginger. Obviously, ginger. So common spices. Oh, and not so common, at least to me, because there is a little small star in it.Anise, star anise. Look it up again. Cardamom and, oh yeah, those little things, cloves. They are called cloves. All of them, spices. Very nice looking, floating here in my hot tea, floating. So staying up and not going down, not going, so floating, floating in my tea. And finally, to top it all, top it all, some sweet, sweet raspberry juice.Oh, let me take a sip now, let me take a sip. A taste of cozy, a taste of cozy. But it's not all. Well, because I do not have a fireplace, fireplace, I want it to be warm, so I turn up the heating, turn up the heating. And, that's awesome, awesome, light some candles, light some candles around. Here are two over here. It's nice if they are scented candles, so they have this special nice smell. Scented candles, let me have a look. One is 'white tea and ginger', obviously ginger, and the other one, 'balance and harmony'. That's the names, that's the names of the scent, the smell. Also cozy. What else do we need? Yeah, some soft, soft light. Not a lot, just here and there, a little bit. Soft, delicate, warm light, that's important. Yeah, all is here, all is here.Oh, I almost forgot, I almost forgot. Oh yeah, some warm socks, blankets and layers, layers of clothes. Yeah, I love layers. I think it just runs in my family, we love layers of clothes to keep us warm and cozy.Yeah, and that would be it, that would be it. But maybe just one more thing missing here. Something in the background. Hmm, what could it be? Maybe some music. Soft, nice music. Oh, maybe just another episode of your favourite podcast. Enjoy your cozy listening time. That's good.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Focus'Yeah, so everything is ready, I'm sitting and all the setup, setup, so the way my microphone and all the devices are organized, and my setup is ready and I am ready to record, record. Here we go, but wait, wait, I don't have my tea, come on, I can't do that without my tea. So wait a sec, wait a second, I'll be right back... Alright, I'm back, I am back with my hot hot tea. Ah, yeah, very hot, I like it this way. Delicious. Just perfect for a winter day like today. No, wait, it's not winter yet, just perfect for an autumn day, autumn day like today.Alright, so back to recording, back to recording and today's topic is focus, is focus, which by the way, by the way reminds me, reminds me that I need to take my laundry out, take my laundry out of the washing machine. So please give me a second again, I'm sorry, I'll be right back again... Okay, the laundry is out, the laundry is out of the washing machine and it is out to dry, to dry. And finally I can get down, get down to recording, which means start recording, start recording, as I said. I'm a little out of breath right now, because I was in a hurry, I was in a hurry. But I am so glad I remembered about the laundry, yeah, I was super focused, super focused, laser focused, even I can say laser focused, so very very much focused. Yeah, I'm glad that I didn't forget, yeah. And now back to recording, back to recording about, yeah, the focus because it is very very important to be focused on what you are doing... Excuse me again, I got a message over here.Oh, oh, you know what? Just found out, just found out that my parcel, my parcel is on its way, on its way, so it is coming, it is coming, and finally I will be able to, I will be able to pick up my parcel tomorrow, tomorrow. Oh can't wait, because it is this picture I ordered, I bought, and can't wait to have it on my wall,Yeah, you know, I keep changing stuff, I keep changing stuff around my place, and this is just another thing. Yeah, like, you know, you might remember, you might remember, I'm still waiting for the sofa, and a coffee table.Yeah, anyway, anyway, back to the topic of today's podcast, which is the focus, the focus, which, by the way, I'm very good at, I am very good, I am, well, maybe not the best, but I think I am doing pretty well. And whenever I want, I can focus on anything I need to. In fact, in fact, I am good at many things, not just that. I'm good at... oh, I know, I know. I keep saying that to people, and they agree, I'm super fast, I am super fast, and whenever something is falling, I will catch it. That's my thing, that's my thing...Oh, and focus, and focus. Oh my, look at the time, look at the time. I'm almost out of time, I'm almost out. I don't know how it happened, really. I guess I will tell you all about it in the next episode, in the next episode. And I have great ideas, I have great ideas, but before that, before that, just to let you know, I think I need to have something to eat, have something to eat. And then focus, yeah.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Go Left, Go Right'Go where? Left? Right? Why? I am not going anywhere today. I am not going anywhere. It is snowy, it is snowy. Inside - good. Outside - bad. Don't go out. Now, actually, actually, it is pretty nice outside. It is snowing heavily, it is snowing right now for the first time, and it is pretty cold. And wet a little. Dark, also cloudy, but still, still quite beautiful, quite beautiful. So, maybe outside - good, inside - bad. So, about right now, about today, about right now, and today. No left, no right. Just today. I do have some time, and I am thinking what to do. I have a few ideas. One of them, one of them is to go out and, well, get the first experience of the winter, winter in November. November winter, pretty early. So, that's today. Maybe later on, later on, later on, today. Well, I have dinner as usual, family dinner, and as usual I record the episode. That's my usual thing to do on this day, and I am doing that, I am doing that right now.So, let's go left, left, and by left, I mean yesterday, last week, last month, maybe, last year, last year, in the past, very much, into left. So, when I go left, I mean the past.Yesterday, for example, I had a pretty busy day, not like today, but yesterday, I did, I did. I had quite a lot of things to do. I also wanted to find some time for workout, and unfortunately, I didn't, I didn't do, I didn't, I didn't find any, and I didn't find any energy either. I didn't find any, any, any energy either. But, believe me, believe me, I wanted, I wanted. I did find some time to do a little clean-up. So, I cleaned, I cleaned up the apartment a little bit, so I was happy about that. It wasn't that bad, because I had a nice evening to finish off the day yesterday. Yeah, and went to sleep quite early, so I could get some sleep, get enough sleep, because I didn't get it in the past week, I didn't get enough sleep.Alright, are you with me? That was the left. Let's go right then, let's go right. And when I say right, I mean, not the past, not the present, let's go into the future, into the future, back to the future. So, I am gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I am gonna, have dinner, I am gonna, well, obviously, hang out with my family after that. I'm sure it will be, it will be great, it will be great. Also, in the evening, I'm gonna go out, and I'm gonna take out my dog for a walk in the snow. That will be quite an experience for me and for him.And then, maybe I will do some work before tomorrow, because I will have to, I will have to get ready, but hopefully I will not have to spend a lot of time doing that. And then, I am gonna do some language learning, language learning. Well, can't wait, I can't wait.I am also, also gonna, well, find some time to do my workout, finally, to do my workout. And at the end of the day, at the end of the day, I hope I will have a nice, nice evening to finish off the day. I'm looking forward to it, I'm looking forward to it.And what about you then, what did you do yesterday, last week? Go left. What are you gonna do tomorrow, next week?Go right then. Or stay where you are, straight on, go straight on, here and now. Keep that in mind, please.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Motivation'Motivation, do you have motivation? Do you have enough motivation? Do you have enough motivation to do that, to do this, to do things? Are you motivated enough? Are you motivated?Because that's a mystery, so like a secret, and we wonder, was it really is. A mystery. How does it really work? Can you please tell me? Can you please tell me? Why am I motivated? Why am I not motivated enough to do exercise in the morning?I wake up and I wonder, 'Hmm, I want to do that today.' But yesterday, I didn't really want. I didn't feel like doing that. I didn't want to do that. I didn't feel like doing. Why is that?Yeah, morning exercise, a mystery. Or to work hard and do your best, do your best, which means to be as best as you can, do your best. Am I always motivated to do this? I don't think so. I would like to be. Yeah, that's for sure.Or to study, to study every day, to study three times a week, to be more regular. To keep coming back to studying. Are you motivated enough? Yes you are. Sometimes. Not always. But you do come back. You do. You always come back.So why is that? We struggle. We struggle. I struggle, so I have problems. I have problems doing that, I struggle to do something. To learn sometimes, to make myself do it, make myself do it. 'Oh, not today. Not today. I'm so tired. I don't feel like doing that.' I'm sure you feel like that from time to time as well. But then, for some reason, for some reason, you find motivation, find motivation to do that.So what is it? What is this motivation you have? What is this thing that pushes you, pushes you to doing things? You must get something out of this. You must, right?Do you get this satisfaction, satisfaction, and this is enough? Maybe. Do you want to be better and better? And that's great. Yeah, why not? Is it money? Maybe. Why not? Maybe you want to impress other people, impress, which means show to other people how good, how great you are, impress people. Yeah, good enough, good enough. Or you keep comparing yourself, keep comparing yourself to others. When you compare, you look at other people and think a little bit about them and yourself and think who's better here, who's worse and so on. Compare yourself. And that's your motivation. That is your motivation. Could be, could be. Or maybe it is just fun. And you get a kick, you get a kick out of it, which means it gives you this positive energy and you want to come back, you want to come back to doing that. Maybe it is like that. Maybe it is. But whatever the motivation, whatever the motivation is and however, however you struggle sometimes, I'm sure and you know that too, you will come back again and again. And you will feel motivated again and again.Because you know that not doing is much, much worse than doing. And this is what we really need to know here. So do things.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Sunday'It is a Sunday today. No work, no busy morning, no rushing out of the house, no big lists of things to do, No meetings, lessons, no traffic and busy streets. No shopping and no spending, money. And also no worrying that you're gonna be late and no worrying that you're gonna miss an appointment or forget about something important. No things like that. Sunday.Sleeping in, so sleeping a little longer. Then having breakfast a little later. Taking your time because nowhere to go. Listening to some music, to a podcast, maybe using social media a little, just taking your time, with your coffee. Just relaxing, sitting comfortably in an armchair. No need to hurry. No thinking about anything really. No thinking about problems, no problems on this day. Then the noon, maybe a little walk outside, taking your dog out for a longer walk, a longer stroll in the park. Slowly, without hurrying, looking around, noticing things. Noticing the weather and the nature. It's pretty cold and rainy, but no worrying about that, no worrying about that today. It's Sunday, no need for that. Then a little reading or watching or listening. Nothing really important, just fun stuff, easy. Maybe meeting the family, hanging out a little, having dinner. Then coffee, maybe some cake. No hurrying anywhere, not busy at all. No gym today and no studying, and no working either and not thinking about what important things there are to do the next day. No stuff like that on this day. A nap in the afternoon, no setting an alarm, no need for that. A sofa and a warm blanket. And some soft light. In the evening, maybe a movie, maybe hanging out with a friend, a long bath. An evening with music and candles. Just slow, quiet, peaceful time.Only, I am not sure I can do that. I think I, I'm just different.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'The News'So here is the news for you. I have plenty. I have plenty of news. A lot of, plenty, a lot of, plenty of news from around the world actually. Well, this is going to be a very international, international episode. But also some local, local news.Do you follow the news? Do you follow the news? Maybe we shouldn't be doing that. At least not that much, not that much. But, oh come on, we know this is just fun, fun.Like this piece of, piece, piece of news, local news. I can tell you that they have opened, they have opened a new roundabout in the area. Do you know what it is? Roundabout? This part of round road, round road, in a town, in a city. Yeah, so they have just opened, they have just opened a new one. And must say it's high time, it is high time. Quite a lot of accidents over there without it. And big traffic, there was big traffic. Hopefully now it has changed, it has changed. Now, the world, the world. Oh, there has been a time change. There has been a time change, which, by the way, I'm not a big fan of, I'm not, I'm not a big fan of that. Oh come on, can we stop doing that? Please? Okay, anyway, there has been a time change. And, well, the day has become much, much shorter for us. Magically, magically.Alright, a piece of sports news, maybe. A big fan of sports, are you? No? Well, you might not know that but the new NBA season has started, the new NBA season, season has just started, so basketball, basketball season. It has been around a week now, it has been around a week now. And it's not like I follow that every day. But, you know, once a fan, always a fan. This is how it is.And now, let's move on to politics. Blah! Well, no big changes here. The politics has been awful. It still is. We have already seen it. We have already, already seen it all. I guess no, no news here, no big news. At least, not good news. Nothing good has happened. But, maybe not politics, but entertainment, entertainment. So, film and music. You know, I've just found out, I have just found out, so, I didn't know that and now I do I have found out there will be a new Beatles movie. You know, you might not be a fan. But come on, that's the Beatles. So, I don't know about you, I am pretty excited.Okay, that's for the news around the world, and me? Not much has happened. I can tell you, I have redecorated, redecorated my living room a little bit. And I have decided. I have decided I need a new sofa. Again. I haven't bought it. I haven't bought it yet but I have chosen the right one this time.Hey, do you need a sofa, by the way? Good condition. Comfortable. Two-seater. Let me know. And, oh, I have worked out I have worked out the problem with the insurance company. Yeah! There are people over there after all. Because somebody has responded, has responded. Yeah, good for me, good for me. So, I have solved the problem. And, yeah. Now, I guess, coffee time. Oh, oh yeah, I've just realised I have run out of coffee. And tea. Yeah, I have just realised I need to do some shopping.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'Paperwork'So I am at work, I am working, I am working really hard. I shouldn't, I shouldn't be working because this is my day off. And it is my time off, so the time when I don't have to work, but I do, I do. And to be honest with you, to be honest with you, I quite hate that. So let me explain, let me explain. I am working, and well, there is a lot of paper around me, a lot of paper. And this is paperwork. Yeah, do you know what that is? Paperwork. Well, that's documents, forms, bills, and other pieces of writing. Well, documents in general, that you really, really, really have to do from time to time. I'm so sorry.Fortunately, I do not have to do that a lot, and I am trying to do this as quickly as possible, and come back to enjoying my life again. Oh, but not this time, not this time. Because you see, I got this piece of writing and documents, yeah, which I don't quite understand. Okay, but anyway, I got this document saying that I have to pay this car insurance. Oh, and I'm okay with that. I know that. I do that all the time. We do this all the time. And the point is, the point is, the point is, I have already done it. I have already done it. I have paid, and still I get this piece of writing.Yeah, and that's the moment I really, really don't like, because it really slows down the work. And as I said before, I don't want to be doing that. I want to be as fast as possible, and now I have to deal with that, so when you say deal with something, you have a problem, and somehow you have to find a way to get around this problem, deal with the problem, so that you don't have it.And this is what I was trying to do. I was trying to deal with this problem, and I called the insurance company. Well, it didn't work. It didn't work, because I couldn't find a real person to talk to about it. And the ideas they gave me over there didn't work, didn't work at all, didn't work. That's not the end. I had to go and see the insurance agent to help me with the problem, and what did he do? Well, he tried to call the same number and deal with this problem, as I did before, and he got the same result. We could say he failed, so he didn't get what he wanted. I failed, he failed. Oh, we both failed. So we failed to deal with the problem, we could say.So here I am, here I am, and I am trying to find a way, and I still have two solutions to try. One, try and explain everything in an email, and hopefully somebody will read it and react. And second, well, I'm going to take my car, which, by the way, is fully insured, and drive 600km to see somebody from the company, and, well, and say, 'Hey man, are you mad? Are you out of your mind? Why are you doing that to me? You made a mistake, and I have to pay for that?!' And to make things worse, to make things worse, I have to waste the whole day driving here. 'Come on, leave me alone, leave me alone!'I hope I won't have to do that, but I guess you know what I mean. So I'm stuck here on my day off, dealing with work, paper work.Well, it's your turn now. Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud -LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
Luke Likes 'I've made it'Yeah, I have made it! I've made it! Oh my God! I'm so happy I have. And you, you have made it, you have, and because you have been following, you have been following me for 100 episodes, 100 episodes since, since the 9th of October, so I have been doing that since the 9th of October and it has been one year, one year. And I have made, I have created 100 episodes ... 99 episodes, this is the 100th one, But yeah, you have learned, you have learned, hopefully, hopefully, so I really hope you have learned something, and even a little more than that.Oh, it has been a long, long run, it has been a run because the idea, the idea behind this podcast is to give you the basis, the basis to listen, to communicate and to use, to use English better and better. And I have tried to do that in 10 steps. Let's have a little recap, recap, so let's go back in time.#1 So, in episodes from 1 to 9, from 1 to 9, I have given you, I have given you Basic Information , basic information about me, about you, about how to talk about yourself and how to talk about basic things, objects around you.#2 Step 2, episodes 10 to 19, I have talked about Towns And Places, also about time and everyday life, my everyday life and for you to copy that to copy and try and talk about your everyday life.#3 Then, step 3, episodes 20 to 29, Travelling. I have talked about countries and how to communicate when you travel. #4 Then, step 4, episodes 30 to 39 and that's Shopping. Cool, you have learned, hopefully, you have learned how to buy stuff, also how to sell stuff and, oh, maybe how not to buy too much, as I did.#5 Step 5, episodes 40 to 49, Fashion and Clothes. Oh yeah, I do remember that. I have talked about fashion and clothes and I'm such an expert right now.#6 And also, episodes 50 to 59, in step 6, I have talked about Food and Eating. Yeah, I'm an expert too, if you didn't know that, sure, sure.#7 Then, comes step 7, episodes 60 to 69 and that's Transport and Getting Around, where I talked about planes and cars and how I get around, get around. So that's transport and now, #8 Step 8, episodes 70 to 79, I have talked about Homes and Furniture and, well, our disappointment, disappointment, so when we are not happy with the place that we just rented.#9 Step 9, episodes 80 to 89 and that's Health And the Body, where you have learned, you have learned a lot, a lot about medicine, medicine and, well, okay, I'm an expert too, obviously, call me a doctor.#10 And the last step, step 10, episodes 90 to 99, a fun, fun, fun step, Hobbies And Interests, what we like and what we don't like, what I like and maybe you also like.So that has been 10 big steps, 10 episodes, every step of the way. And in between them, in between, there have been, there have been, grammar episodes, grammar episodes.Oh yeah, you have not noticed that, have you? Every third episode is a grammatical one: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and so on. So please listen to them carefully. One time, two times, three, four, five times, until you get them, get them. And if you have understood everything and if you can talk about yourself like that, you have made it, you have made it and you are ready for the next level.Yeah, so it has been a great, great run and I'm so happy, I'm really happy that I have made it, which means you have made it.Congrats to you and remember, Listen, Read, Repeat.Embrace the day, people!-------------------------------------------Intro/Outro Music By:Joakim Karud - LongingLicense:Creative Commons License
