Learn Irish with TYM

Learn Irish with TYM is a two-part weekly podcast series designed to help learners build real, practical Irish through engaging content and a structured method. The podcast is available on all major platforms, allowing Irish language learners to add it to their playlists and listen on the go.

These platforms not only give learners easy access to Irish content but also help introduce the language to new audiences. They serve as a powerful entry point to our innovative TYM – Learn Irish app, available on iOS and Android. The app is where learners get the full benefit of the TYM Method, making the Irish language more accessible, enjoyable, and effective for everyone.

Freagairt le TYM (Reaction with TYM)

Each cycle begins with Freagairt le TYM, where we present six short news stories using the TYM Method. This episode introduces learners to new vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in context, delivered through slow, natural narration by Orlaith (AI).

TYM Method - Each story comes with:

- Full transcript

- Sentence-by-sentence English translations

- Syntax breakdowns

- Useful Phrases

This format is ideal for learners at A2 level and beyond.

Comhrá le TYM (Conversation with TYM)

The following week, Comhrá le TYM builds on the material introduced in Freagairt. The same news stories are transformed into a natural conversation using the TYM Method between Orlaith and Colm (AI). This back-and-forth dialogue reinforces familiar language while introducing new phrases and expressions. It is especially helpful for developing listening and conversational skills in real-life contexts.

How They Work Together

Freagairt le TYM and Comhrá le TYM are designed to complement each other and create a continuous, reinforcing learning loop:

- First, learners are introduced to structured content in clear, manageable segments.

- Then, they revisit that content in a more natural, conversational setting.

Over time, the series will introduce targeted grammar themes, such as nouns in Freagairt and verbs in Comhrá, helping learners build a solid foundation before moving on to more advanced topics.

Whether you're just starting or refreshing your Irish, this podcast series makes the language accessible, practical, and enjoyable, one week at a time.

Our primary goal is to maintain high grammatical accuracy, as is the standard for all content on TYM Learn Irish. Therefore, unlike typical free-flowing podcasts, our text and audio were carefully prepared in advance to ensure that the grammar is 99% correct. Additionally, we intentionally deliver the speech at a slower pace to make it easier for learners to follow. For many learners, listening to Irish language podcasts with fluent or native speakers can be challenging due to the fast-paced delivery. In our podcasts, however, we prioritize clarity by proofreading and rehearsing the text before recording, ensuring that it’s both accurate and accessible for learners at different levels. This project also allowed us to experiment with two speakers: one with strong Irish language skills and the other at an earlier stage in their learning journey. We aimed to create a conversational dynamic that feels natural and engaging. While some of the audio quality didn’t turn out as perfectly as we hoped, this is part of our own learning process in podcast production.Despite these minor issues, each of the three podcast episodes offers a wealth of educational content. We encourage you to listen actively, take notes on new and familiar words, and capture as many useful phrases as possible. Enjoy, engage, and make the most of these learning opportunities!TYM – Learn IrishSearch TYM Irish on iOS or Android to download the app for free and experience the full learning journey.
